1175.1 | Jerseys for Europeans? | LEROUF::WILSON | John in Valbonne, France | Tue May 23 1989 05:01 | 7 |

Can people in Europe order the jerseys? I suspect there are quite a few
apart from me who would love to have one. If possible, please order a
large one for me and I will pay in the internal mail if that's OK.

1175.3 | The color is wrong... | STARCH::WHALEN | In training for The Great Mass Getaway | Tue May 23 1989 14:17 | 6 |
| After all the work we did to find these jerseys and get them in an acceptable
color, we find out that we chose the wrong color. Recently released results
showed that the more outrageous colors (hot pink was mentioned) were much more
noticable to the eyes of a passing motorist.

1175.4 | White is the most visible! | ENGINE::PAULHUS | Chris @ MLO6B-2/T13 dtn 223-6871 | Thu May 25 1989 13:10 | 11 |
| re. .3 You notice the 'hot' colors, yellow, red, pink, etc in
good light. In poor light/fog/etc white is noticed first. That
is why we designed the original Bike Club T-shirt with a white back
and blue on the sleeves.
Note, Daimler-Benz research has done some interesting studies
on this topic and confirmed white as the most visible. And if you
remember your physics, this makes sense: white is the 'color' that
reflects ALL the energy in all the other colors.
So, I'll take visibility under poor conditions and rely on a
weird bike so they don't forget me momentarily (while turning, etc).

| Tom has done a wonderful job with this, now lets see how well he
does on our group picture!!!! Lets see now, DEC will pay to have
us all sent to, aaahhh lets see now, yes the Alps, thats it, for the
group photo. Tom, will you start with Marketing first, or with Corp.
personnel?
I can see it now. on the cover of the next Digital Annual Report
104 DEC Bike jerseys worn by Dec's finest, with there trusty bikes
(we can't go with out our bikes now could we), and the French Alps in
the background.
Of course the report will have other "smaller" pictures of us in
one looooong pace lane going down the twisties. Then the pictures of
us all consuming some of the finest food in a small village cafe (at
DEC expense of course) all in our jerseys.
This should only take about three weeks to shoot all the photos,
and then the complementary week off(for being separated from our
families)! Tom, sign me up!
Tom, you should start a separate note to collect CC and account info
etc..... Who knows you could even create your own NEW job. :-)

the bike jerseys) has been appointed V.P. in charge of.........

| Regarding the jersey's being white; the coming thing in automobile
headlights is ultraviolet for high beams. Not only can you have
your high's on without blinding other people but anything white
will stand out like it's glowing (put something white under a "black
light" (as ultraviolets are known) and you'll see what I mean).
Probably won't happen for 2 or 3 years though. So, we're in the
forefront for biking safety with our white jerseys.

| FYI...I'm getting a test run jersey sometime this week. If it is OK the run
will start soon. Two or three weeks and you'll be wearing them, I was told.
Just to clarify...
To get an idea of the color scheme, look at a 7-11 jersey. The white
stays white and the colored sections are DECblue, everywhere its says 7-11 will
be a DEClogo.

Any idea on the latest ETA . . .
Apparently there was a two week vacation given to a key person or the whole
staff. So I was told. Whatever it was we should be getting them soon. I just
called the vendor and asked if we would get them in soon, and he said like the
end of next week or the begining of the next
We'll see...
I can't wait to get mine either.

1175.12 | They exist..........IN PIECES! | WMOIS::N_FLYE | | Tue Aug 15 1989 05:30 | 10 |
| When I was at the NEAR rally Schnaubelt had an exhibit. I asked
them how the jerseys were coming along. They do exist, sort of.
As of last Friday they had been sublimated but still had to be cut
to the proper size, sewn, packaged and sent out. I was told Tom
should have them in about two weeks.
They told me the delay was caused by moving to a new, larger
facility. Both Nashbar and Descente have increased there Schnaubelt
orders this year.
Norm
|
1175.13 | Two more weeks, really? | IAMOK::WESTER | | Tue Aug 15 1989 15:42 | 21 |
| OK,
These guys are something else! Every time you talk to them they say
"two weeks more." This sounds like the movie the Money Pit. You
remember that movie, every time Tom Hanks asks a subcontractor how long
it will take, they respond "oh, two weeks." Then, of course, it takes
months until the job gets done.
We've given them more than $4,000 for these Jerseys. I think we should
start bugging the hell out of them until they commit to a real date.
Tom, how about posting their number? Or, we could throw the power of
DEC behind us and tell these guys that we'll personnally tell every
club in DEC not to order stuff from them. That should get their
attention!
Tom, I realize it's not your fault, but I was hoping to use these
jerseys before the summer ended (after all they are COOlMAX). Now, 3
months after order date they still haven't committed as to when they'll
be ready! Well, I'm through blowing off steam, any suggestions?

Thanks for the confirmation of the jerseys being made. I'm sure people were

Latest news:
The manager of the place fired/quit (probably from all our complaining) She was

| I was wondering if we will ever see this jersey by New Year.
I thought Back in May that the longest it would take would be two
months. It has been 3 1/2 months and we still haven't seen the jerseys.
this season is almost up. I would of like to have worn this jersey.
paying $42 to look at a jersey till next year isn't my way of sending
money. I like to get my enjoyment out of my hard earned money. Please
if you can do anything to get these jersey out do so. I would like

Anyone that ordered a L or XL should be picking it up or getting it UPS
depending on how you wanted them delivered. So "Bat" you should be getting yours
in what ever time it takes you to get UPS from MA. BTW I dropped them off at
the main terminal in Shrewsbury MA yesterday, so they should get to you fast.
I'm waiting for the mediums and the smalls to come in.
Tom
PS For those of you that didn't order a jersey but have seen one and wish they
did get one....Or those of you that didn't even know about ordering until it
was too late, I'm thinking of putting in another order. I know, I'm crazy, but
I know how much everyone wanted one that missed the order. No I'm not making
money on these jerseys either. I'm not making any promises now so don't get
your hopes up too high. Also, THERE WILL NOT BE ANY ORDERS SHIPPED OUTSIDE THE
USA on this second order. If you want one make arrangements to have someone in
the US bring it to you or hold it for you thats fine.
So if you're interested send me a VAXmail to: MCIS2::DELORIEA

The next order won't take so long. I was wondering how everybody felt
about there jersey. I rate my very well. I like the faberic. The
colors are sharp. Only if it was a long sleave shirt.
I was thinking if this pattern can come in a form of a skin
suit. Or a set of pants the same colors. or tights. maybe even
a Digital cap. We have all winter to wait on these so you would think
they can get them to us by next season. I am willing to take that
risk. We have the jersey let get other stuff to much it.

| The jerseys are great! The lycra material is heavy, just the thing for cooler
fall rides.
A note on sizing: it is American and not European. In Euro-sizes I wear a
large biking jersy which is skin-tight, but a large American t-shirt is baggy,
except around my shoulders (built up from biking). I'm 5'11", 165 lbs - not
too heavy. If you normally order one size larger, think twice.

| -< 2ND ORDER OF JERSEYS CUT OFF DATE 3/15/90 >-
The time has come to get another jersey order in. Here are the rules:
1. NO ORDERS OUT OF THE U.S. (if you can arrange someone in the US to ship it
to you fine. I'll send it to them and they can
ship it for you.)
2. a Checks are made payable to MAC BENS (vendor)
***b Visa or Master Card number and exp date.*** (MAC BENS will charge you)
3. The pick up point will be at MAC BENS in downtown Worcester. If you can't be
there to pick up your jersey with in a weeks time then have it shipped to
your home address. PO box addresses will be sent through US mail not UPS.
4. Remember the jerseys are running a little bigger than stated. (A large fit
me a bit loose and a medium snug. I normally take a large)
FYI...
Mac Bens will be taking care of all the shipping and ordering, I'm just going
to hand them the orders and the checks. It will be a lot easier for me, because
I won't have to handle any money or spend my time shipping jerseys. There won't
be any problem with turn around time, like last order.

Perhaps we should have had the products on as well..............
Whwn it comes to putting the name before the public, Digital is a non-
starter. At least if I get one to wear on the Cte d'Azur, everyone knows that
Digital is the largest local employer and makes computers and associated
products. With all the other companies in the Park, there is some prestige to
be gained by showing the flag.

Also does Digital sponsor a USCF club? I am currently racing with a

The jerseys should arrive before the end of the month. Yes, the cut off
date was March 15 for sending in orders. I waited a week to make sure the mail
didn't hold up any orders. I sent in the order to the vendor who sent it to the
maker. They in turn make the jerseys from scratch. This is not like mail order
where you send in your order and they pull stock off the shelf and send it to
you in 3 days. No, this is a custom jersey. They had to ink the cloth and then
cut and sew the jerseys together. Eight weeks plus shipping time is what to
hope for. So we'll see if they can keep it in that window. Also, Schnaubelt is
under new management now, where as last time they were in the middle of the
reorg and moving.

bother calling Schnaubelt, due to their blunder with putting DEC's logo on

| The first-batch jersey material is pretty, but holds heat and sweat
in rather than wicking it. Pretty strange for Cool-Max! It makes
for the heaviest Cool-Max jersey I've ever encountered. In its
favor, the stuff seems more durable than "normal" Cool-Max (which
tends to pill), and stays new-looking much longer.
I have to admit that my favorite combination is still poly/lycra
on the outside, with a cotton lining inside, like most of the

Seriously I figure this way they *might* be ready for next spring.
Regarding long sleeves...
Thats why they make Lifa and ect. You wear your jersey over it or you can be
real *cool* and get a set of arm warmers so when it warms up you just pull them
off and stuff them in your jersey pocket.

HEY, maybe your the wrong size not the jersey. Hows that for customer
service. ;-)
Actually, I talked to the owner/manager(?) of Schnaubelt and voiced the problem
with him about this. They went through an ownership change and so forth between
and during the two runs. The second run the took it on themselves to guess that
the 100% Coolmax would be better received. The COOLMAX manufacturer recomended
that the jerseys be made blousey rather than snug fitting. So thats the rest of
the story...

example, I wore it yesterday on my hill workout (Mt. Wachusett).

Hi Everyone!
It's a go ... I will be placing an order for the Jerseys just as soon
as I have all the sizes from everyone.
Here is all the info I have on the shirts:
The shirts will be made out of a material called Cool Max which is top
of the line. The manufacture said they won't shrink ... but doesn't
recommend drying them in the dryer. Laundering instructions are on the
label and suggest to drip dry. I'm told they dry very quickly.
The shirts will be blue and white, loose cut - NOT lycra the skin tight type,
short sleeve, 1/4 zipper in front three pockets in the back with elastic and
elastic on the bottom of the shirt for a nice fit. White logo on the front.
For anyone that had this type from a previous order, these shirts will be
very similiar. Judging from a photo I have, the only difference in design
is that the thin white stripe just above and below the logo will be
removed.
Payment & Shipping: The shirts are $46 each plus shipping, at this point I
plan on sending them US mail (unless your close by). I just spoke to the
Corp. Mail Mgr. and he indicated that interoffice mail is only for printed
matter. I will pursue inter-plant which means in would be boxed, but ..
once again US mail is probably the safest and fastest. Payment - for
those of you that have asked about checks/money orders ... they will be
accepted for US employees. For those that are located internationally
I will be asking for Mastercharge or Visa because of the currency
exchanges. I am not set up as of yet to take the plastic cards but
anticipate that I will be by the time the shirts are ready to be shipped.
I will also find out what the shipping charges will be exactly. So ...
once again I will be in touch.
The sizes run as follows:
X Small Small Medium Large X Large XX Large
31-33 34-36 36-38 38-40 40-43 43- 48
For anyone who hasn't given my their size ... PLEASE DO SO RIGHT AWAY
so the order can be placed. Listed below is who I've heard from

then let me know, otherwise I will order what you've indicated.

| I just heard about DEC's logo change. It is going to make it
a little bit easier to justify a new cycling jersey. Any
word?
If you haven't heard: One solid field, instead of the seven
cursors spelling D-I-G-I-T-A-L. The color (or colour) will
be burgundy and white.

| Just an FYI... Bonnie Steadman (the person who last coordinated
the purchase) has moved on to a new job. The job she left is
actually been changed so no one is available here to do this
sort of thing...

| I'd like one, but if I co-ordinated the buy, y'all would have to come to Dallas
to get them.

It's not a solid field, the blocks are still there.
The letters are white on blocks of "burgundy".
The letters are slightly changed: the "i"'s have round dots,
some of the edges that were horizontal (end of tail on "g",
top of "t", end of hook on "a") are now tilted slightly,
very slight serif on the "a" and the holes in "d" and "g"
are full ovals instead of having a flat side.

| They've already run the new logo in a LIFE magazine a couple of
weeks ago in an advertisement. I think the color "burgundy" was
an artistic stretch (if LIFE was true to the color). It looked more
like a deep purple (remember the band?)
