| THE CAR YOU MAY BE REFFERING TO IS A TVR GRIFFITH WHICH WOULD MAKE THE
KIND OF NOISE THAT YOU ARE REFERING TO.
WHICH I BELIEVE IS A 4.3 V8 ENGINE TOP OF 161 0-60 4.7 BUT NOT RATED
BUY SOME TVR GARAGES.

| The base note, .0, said "blacksoft top". If that means it had a
soft top that was black, it probably wasn't a Griffith. Or was
there such a little beast in the UK? We only saw hard tops in the
U.S.

1863.5 | A new one. | NEWOA::SAXBY | Born again reincarnationist | Thu Aug 20 1992 09:40 | 6 |

This is the NEW Griffith - 4.3 (and a 4.0 litre, I'm told) Rover V8
power - Faster than most Porsche and Ferrari models and as well built
as a Porsche (or so A&M claimed in their road test).

| This is the NEW Griffith
Variations on the Rover (ex-Buick) V8 are used, of different capacities
and with or without gas-flowed heads and different cams.
power - Faster than most Porsche and Ferrari models and as well built
as a Porsche (or so A&M claimed in their road test).
They are a fast car. They also look good (IMO) - with a targa-type
panel and collapsable rear window section (it is a soft-top).
As for quality, the couple I've looked at seem very good, but when I
went out (as a passenger) in my colleague's, the door handle release
decided to pack up on me ! The lever is mounted in the transmission
tunnel, with a cable going to the lock mechanism in the door jamb.
Something went astray in the lock mechanism, which required a new lock,
plus new carpet where it had to be removed to access the lock (the
carpet was stuck to the panels). The seat also had to come out to
get to the door lever cable ! Other problem is a leak from the
heater area - the factory are now providing a differently-moulded
panel for this, which is fitted whenever owners report the problem.

"gorgeous alloys" view expressed by this topic's author.
myk.

| A NEW Griffith??? A NEW Griffith?? Man oh man, I wish we could sell
our DOT (Department of Transportation) to the CIS or someone. I didn't
even know there was a new Griffith. Doesn't matter 'cause the DOT
makes it impossible/impractical for neat stuff like that to get into
the States. Next I suppose BMW will make a sports car again.

Tongue in cheek or don't you count the Z1 (although that's just gone
out of production again)?
Still, you DO get the Viper...

1863.10 | You mean BMW *has* made a sports car? | GUCCI::BBELL | | Tue Sep 01 1992 23:14 | 20 |
| Yeah, I was aware of the Z1 when I made the supposition.
Just complaining 'cause we don't get Z1's and a few other autos that
are probably made more desirable by the prohibition. Having lived in
Germany for a few years, I was exposed to some neat stuff. The
Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency
are used to prevent the "Grey Market" importation of cars that have
not met their specifications. It costs hundreds of thousands to
qualify a car.
Is the new Griffith based on the TVR chassis as the old one was? The
original one was advertised in the States as the "World's Fastest
Production Car".
The Viper is some consolation, though.
Anyone over there seen the new RX7? I really like it a lot except
there is not a ragtop yet.

BMW stopped making the Z1 some time ago (1-2 years ?). 8000 examples
built.
