Care to enter a few more details, like the names and order of the cities
to be passed through.
Sounds fun.

| Hi,
.1
I agree but I have not found many Swiss that do!!!!!!!
.2
This is all the detail I have managed to get from the organizers so
far. The rest of the info is in the registeration packs which the teams
will get after enrollment.
I believe that the route is up to each individual group, so this is
not just the test of driving skills but also ENDURANCE (you'll need
that to spend a week in a car with 3 other smelly people!), PLANNING
(where are we going??), MAP READING (Knowing that you have to look at
the map of Holland to find Lisbon!), TEAM WORK (having the other 3 team
members pointing in three different direction while the driver takes
the fourth!!!), ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS (ensuring that all team members
who leave Paris end up in London - together!), etc, etc....
(Do we have enough people in digital to cover all these points?????).
When I last spoke to the organizers (yesterday morning) they had 3
spaces as the result of cancellations....

Q. Do you have to have four people to a car?
Q. What do you get for the 650?
Q. Is there a fixed route or can you decide which is best?
Q. Is there a fixed start/finish point?
Thanks for any info.
Richard.

1846.6 | First car in...more to go... | BERN02::SOLAYMANTASH | Sally with an M. | Thu Jul 30 1992 09:59 | 18 |
| Hi,
We already have the first car filled... Yeapppppppppie....
But, there is nothing to say that we can't enter more than one car! So,
if there is enough intrest (there seems to be) we can get a second team
in.
However, in the meantime, I desperately need people who can help with
the sponcer chasing... I have a list of possible sponcers and I need
people who are persuasive enough, and have the time, to chase these
leads.
Thanks for all the responce so far. PLEASE keep them coming. I have
done quite a few charity events and believe me the END RESULT is worth
it and every little help will move us closer to the final goal.
MANY THANKS,
Sally.
PS. I'm popping over to England tonight. I will try to go and see the
organizers and get more detailed info out of them. Watch this space.

| You other notes readers have it easy. "Sally with an M" has turned up at
Neuchtel and is trying to "persuade" several of us to compete.
I'm helping to find a car :-)
What does the panel think the ideal car to do (for arguement's sake) 12,000
miles in seven days with 4 drivers (tachometered)?
I reckon that you need:
- Something that has sleeping accommodation for two
- Has room for a porta-potty (pretty base, hmm?!)
- Only needs to be able to cruise at 130-140 kph, but has some
'grunt' for overtaking lorries on open roads.
- Has a range of 5-600 miles between fill ups.
- Will only need a roadside service once (most cars should be OK
here)
Even better would be:
- Cooking facilities on the move (a week of biscuits, cake &
sandwiches could get pretty monotonous)
- A fridge for cold drinks.
My vote would be for a 115 bhp VW T4 camper van - they handle superbly, have an
80 litre tank (average consumption likely to be 32-35 mpg), and have enough
poke to get past slow moving vehicles provided that the manoeuvre is planned
well in advance! Also, being high up, you can see over cars which have rear
parcel shelf blinds fitted (rathole alert).
Does anyone else have completely different ideas about what to take?
Cheers
Steve

1846.8 | This could be really fun | UFHIS::GVIPOND | | Fri Jul 31 1992 12:05 | 14 |

Do you have to take 4 people and do you intend to drive non-stop or
will you be stopping on a night in Hotels ?
If you only require 2 seats, I'd take something like a 928, comfy,
airconditioned, (needed if your going to Lisbon/Madrid etc), loadsa
grunt, and you dont have to travel all the time, a couple of hours @180
would allow toilet stops and you could still keep to the average
120 kph required. The independantly cooled glove box would keep the
cokes and choclate biscuits in fine fettel also ;-)
Anbody an idea of which Capitals would be used ? if its all the EEC
ones then its going to be tough going from Athens to Lisbon or Dublin.

If the cars are "tachoed" and no speeding is allowed, then 12k miles
in 7 days isn't on. With no stops whatsoever it works out at over
a 70mph average!
Still, I fancy a crack at it! Could be fun!

| Has anyone thought about the possibility that the rules mean "no
speeding in certain countries"?
IE. When going through Germany on the Autobahn, i'm sure you'd be
allowed to do up to the speed limit! ;-)
Therefore something like an Espace or even better a Voyager would be
ideal... now who's got one they don't mind putting an extra 12k on
in 7 days!? ;-)
