| .0� Does anyone understand the connection between Jaguar's Daimler and
.0� Daimler-Benz? I know it goes back to the turn of the century.
The connection is a german fellow called Gottlieb DAIMLER. DAIMLER was
one of the automobile pioneers at the end of the 19th century. Later on
he joined forces with rival Carl BENZ to form DAIMLER BENZ (who soon
produced a car named Mercedes after Mr JELINEK's daughter christian
name - Mr JELINK was a personal friend and the French Riviera D-B agent)
In parallel the DAIMLER company had spawned subsidiaries into several
countries : DAIMLER of England and Austro DAIMLER being the two
principal ones.
At the root it's the same DAIMLER.

| Can you clarify, is this a Daimler Dimilia or a Daimler that your
friend THOUGHT was a Dimilia?.

| This obviously is someones strange pronunciation of Daimler.
Remember this is over there, Potato, Tomato etc etc ! ;^)

| The story is that someone who knows nothing about automobiles in
general that runs a limousine rental service is calling this car a
Dimilia. I knew what it was as soon as I saw their brochure. Good
thing they don't rent out the Denbeigh-Smedley Royal Crown Regency.
They would really mess up that one...

| Now that you've mentioned the Denbeigh-Smedley, and what a fine
car that was, I wonder if any noters remember that great old
classic the Rolls-Canardly, and could explain it's heritage.

| I remember the Rolls Canardly with great affection. My first 3 cars were all
Rolls Canardlys! I can't shed much light on their history. There must have been
variations of the Rolls Canardly about since the dawn of the motor car but
during the fifties and sixties every other family had one. By the affluent
eighties they had almost dissappeared until the arrival in Western Europe of
a little known but well qualified East German variation.

| Ah yes that great classic, Rolls down hills but Canardly get back up them.
