| Sounds like pretty normal procedure for creating a rally car.
Get original car (preferably one which manufacturer has competed with)
Fit safety-related components (cage, seats, harnesses, etc)
Uprate suspension and running gear
Insert higher-spec engine (closer to that used by Factory Rally teams)
Go out and use the thing...
As far as your list goes, only competition safety items are missing.
If you are going to hack the car about that much, my only question
would be as to the point in buying a 'Tiger' in the first place, as
you will probably remove most Tiger parts in this conversion.
Don't they cost more due to rarity/'collectors car' status ?

| Good Point... but I do not think I have a good enough sense of balance
to Rally... 8*(
I would have thought that I would have to re-inforce all of the
mounting points on the chassis... whereas the Tiger would have had
these already!
(it's not lazyness... it's very poor welding abilities)
One saftey feature I did think about was putting in a cage.
This set up in particular I have seen as a street car... it was
amazing!
The only problems I can see, would be getting a decent body shell
(circa 1973, 74) as I really disliked the newer ones.

If you really want a car like that described in .0 buy a copy of
Motoring News.
The classifieds are full of bastardised rally cars for next to nothing.
Basically no-one wants these cars because they are such an insurance
and (perceived at least) safety headache.

1302.4 | A roll-cage also increases insurance 'risk' | CHEST::RUTTER | Rutter the Nutter | Tue Nov 27 1990 12:49 | 18 |
| I didn't realise the Tiger had a reinforced shell, that would
be a bonus. (I think the same applies to Ford Escort shells,
the 'RS' versions were strengthened somewhat).
One safety feature I did think about was putting in a cage.
I remember reading some time ago that the roof of an Avenger
was *very important* to the structural strength of the car.
This was given as a reason to never put a sunroof in one.
If the car is stressed noticeably in this way, I would
think you could get substantial benefits from fitting a cage.
Besides being a secondary safety item, they have the advantage
of increasing the strength of the car. (In fact, MkII Escorts
would fall apart if rallied without a cage installed - the car
was much weaker than the MkI bodyshell).

| I think I will do just that... although I feel that half the fun
is building it yourself as far as possible.
The strange thing about insurance in this instance would be (to
me at least), that the safety of the car has actually been improved,
therefor they must think that because the car goes faster it must
be a high risk, this may be true though with the modifications
I have suggested, the car would be far better! Even forgetting
the Lotus engine, and using the sunbeam ti engine, would mean
that there is better performance without any *real* insurance issue!
