Definitely Long-Term. Short-term's a rip-off for a stay in excess of
about 4 hours. L.T. works out at about 6.50 per day or part thereof
whereas S.T works out at about 1.70 per hour.....

| I'd say go long term, unless you're staying less that 1 day. Last
year I parked in the short term, thinking I was returning that evening,
but was delayed until the following day. The car park fee was 38
quid !!
Better still, if it's a lease car, lend it to a friend if they'll drop
you off then pick you up again.

| The long term at T4 isn't very far away; you can walk it in 5 or 10
mins, if you haven't much luggage.
It's much nearer and cleaner than the T1/2/3 equivalents.

Railair link from the station. works out cheaper in the long run, and
removes hassle of coping with Heathrow traffic.

The short term carpark *starts* at a minimum of 2.00 (1 hour) and climbs
rapidly from there !
The long term carparks are very easy to get to and you just catch an airport
bus.
Allow about hour to get from your car to the check-in desk. It can be as
little as 20 minutes, but I go by the longer time as safer.

All the long-term parks at Heathrow have a free bus to the terminals, which runs
(theoretically) every 7 minutes. Much easier if you've got bags to carry,
but, as Jane says, allow half-an hour for getting stuck in traffic and such.
Another good trick to look out for is those trips which start at T1/2/3 and
return to T4. Different car parks, different buses, different sides of the
field.
If you get caught in one of those, there _is_ a transfer bus between 1/2/3 and
4, and if you speak nicely to the driver, he'll drop you off by the
car-park bus stop. Allow an hour.

If you return to T123, it is possible to ring up and order a mini-bus to
take you to the T4 long term. Me and the driver were virtually
fighting off other people who were convinced it was going to go to T123
long term.
Current long term cost - 6.40 per day (or part of day). Although it
is 4.00 for the first 12 hours, you can't use that '12' hours at any
other time. Bit of a shame.
Fairly safe place, as i discovered i'd left the drivers door unlocked
:-(

| Hmmm, this is getting confusing, so let me clarify for future
reference;
If you're at T1/2/3, the long term car parks are quite a distance away,
and Jane is right; you need 30 mins to get back to the Terminals.
T4 is different, the long term is not very far away, and should only
take 15 mins (20 at most) - and as I said, if you haven't got heavy
luggage, you can walk it in 5 or 10 mins.
I also think I heard on AIR (Airport Information Radio) on 1584 MHz
(or is it 1548? check the signs as you approach Heathrow and
Gatwick) that the long term charges drop to 4.50 per day after the
first week.
The inter-terminal buses between T1/2/3 and T4 aren't too bad; it is
quite feasible to plan to arrive/depart from different terminals.
(I did this some time ago when flying to Paris; I was scheduled out on
Air France (T2), and back on BA (T4). I got there early, parked at T4,
got the bus to T2, and flew off.
Coming back, BA were having problems, and I ended up on the AF flight,
which landed at T2, so I had to get the bus back to T4.... Oh well.
Peter.

| At the risk of confusing further, I've used FLYAWAY... a collection and
delivery service. Basically, you call and pre-book, tell them which
dates you depart and arrive back, the flights, terminal and the time that
you expect to arrive at the airport.
Then, you drive straight up to 'departures' ... ignore the yellow
perils and a FLYAWAY person shows up to drive off in your nice car.
On return, ring them from baggage claim and (in principle) the car
shows up as you exit the Arrivals hall ! Chuck in your bags, pay the
man and drive away. Their number is 081-759-2020/1567.
Cost was 36 pounds for Sunday to Friday.
Downsides - 15 minute wait on Friday night due to traffic .. not too
bad, as it then took me 35 mins from the tunnel to the M25 !!!!

If you are just going away for the weekend and have no baggage...
But for a longer period it sounds like a good idea. Where do they park
the car though ? Is it 24 hour security ?
Nigel
On Sunday evening it took me about 1 hr 30 from getting off the plane
to Fareham. And that was going via T4 long term after landing at T2.

| I have used "Airways Cranford Parking" at Heathrow before - they are cheaper
than the long term car parks and supply a mini-bus to take you to your terminal
and collect you again. The cars are held in a floodlit compound at the west end
of the runway (surrounded by razor wire !) they are on 081-759-9413

Hi all,
Can anyone update the info here on the cheapest option for long term
parking at Heathrow?
How much do the Off site parking facilities cost? Since the introduction
of the "bussiness" parking, has anyone else noticed that the bus turn
around time to the new parking at the east end of the runways is much worse
than the old long term was?
Thanks,
Terry

| Try the Family Car Park. It is on the A4 near the airport entrance, but
it is hidden behind a factory. There is minibus service to the
terminals. It looks like a dive but they are very helpful and about
half the price of the on-airport parking. Despite the name, a lot of
regular business travellers use them.
I don't have the number to hand but they are in Yellow Pages.

| Terry,
The long term car park at the east ( Flightpath ) charges 3.00 per
12 hours or 6.00 a day. The new business parking costs 6.50 per day ( according
to the British Midland in flight mag ). I guess the flightpath park takes
approx an addition 5 minutes and buses run every 7 mins ( if you believe them ).
The business car park buses are smaller and seamed to run more frequent.
I saw a off-site parking company with 3.75/day, but this may well based on a
weekly park. Sorry can't remember the name

| I was recommended Secure Storage at 3.95 per day (midnight to midnight) who
can be found in Southall (I don't have the map with me; I can bring it in if
anyone's interested) and tried it over Christmas, returning to the UK on 28th
December.
Their shuttle bus worked fine, and they were waiting for me as I came out
through customs (you call Freephone while waiting at the baggage claim). The
car was ready to drive away by the time we got back to it, and it was roughly
30 minutes from plane landing to driving away from the airport.
Highly recommended, and, I think, the cheapest daily rate.
