What do you do if you forget you security code on a coded stereo?
The reason I ask is because on saturday while I was cleaning the tape
heads of the cassette deck in our 760 I decided to code the stereo
(they come uncoded). Anyway I coded the stereo but I must have
does something wrong because the stereo is now locked and I cannot
unlock it :-(

Variation on the 'dead radio' theme -
Our radio (Phillips) I think, decided that it needed the code number
putting into it, and between Derek and me arguing about how to do it -
we put in the wrong number, and now we can't get it to accept any other
attempt to enter the number. The 'C' is displayed on the radio, and a
dispalyed 'line' moves round on the right hand site, plotting a square.
(sorry about the explanation - but if you've seen it before you'll know
what I mean!) Derek tried disconnecting the battry, but we still can't
get it to accept the code number.
Please don't say RT*M - we can't find it! :-) Maybe someone has
a Maestro/other Rover with a coded radio?

| Don't you have to disconnect the battery, and leave it disconnected
for some time, like a day or so, to give it time to forget ...
The idea being that the would be thief can't try all the combinations

You could try what I did and wait 4 hours and then try and enter
the code again.
Good luck

I have a Blaupunkt that needs a code, entering the code is achieved
using the preset station buttons.
The code has four numbers
eg 3456
To enter the number you press preset_button_1 three times
preset_button_2 four times
and so on.
Once the code is displayed, the set is "activated" by pressing the
tuner in the +ve direction. Pressing it in the -ve direction clears
the code and you can start again.
If I forget the code, the set has to go back to Blaupunkt and they
charge me loads of wonga for a "chip" with a new code.

| Re .0 ( feedback )
Well, I dug up the manual finally, and found that it told me that:
"if you cannot remember the right code anymore and can prove that
you are the legitimate owner, your dealer can return the car radio
to the factory to erase the unknown code from the memory "
Rather than chase this option and the ones mentioned in this note
( thanks BTW ), I let my brain go into freefall, and hey presto!,
I remembered, its the first 3 digits of my access code to DECPARK.
I punched that in and YO! Radio 4, WhiteSnake, Ghulam Ali, here
I come....
Thanks for the feedback in this note, and hope my solution rings
a bell for somebody else.
-Shantanu ( who has changed the code since )
