859.0. "Crude Cwick Cars" by AYOV27::OAVAX_MB () Fri Nov 17 1989 15:25

I'd like to hear from ayone that has one of these.

I friend of mine told me that a Trevor is more cruder than
a 2.8 Capri. It's that sort of quick crude what I am interested
    in.

I'd like to now how it drives (or if) and why you got it,
and what - if anything you would replace it with.

What about the Tickford Capri 2.8i Turbo ?

Yes the Turbo conversion would *certainly* count :-).

They put out about 200bhp don't they?

Incidentally, talking of Capris, a policeman told me the other day
that one of the cars he used to drive was a 3.0S Capri. That gave
him about 15mpg on occasion. Mind you he *was* only using two
    gears ...

An RS2000 is another car I was thinking of, but I am really looking
    for fairly recent cars.

One car I have in mind is the Renault GTA V6. I only know that
it's quick though, would you happen to know if it also falls into the
'crude' category? I don't really *want* an ultra-smooth sleek car,
well-mannered, easy to drive car, so things like MR2s and Supras
are out. So, I think is the Nissan ZX that I looked at briefly.

    Cheers
    Marc

I wouldn't have thought the GTA was 'crude' in the same sense as
the Capri, it does, after all, handle ! :^)

Having said that it is supposed to be a little wild if provoked
, but I think the provocation has to be fairly severe, like in a
    Porsche 911.

The 2.8i Turbo had around 230bhp.

    >I wouldn't have thought the GTA was 'crude' in the same sense as
    >the Capri, it does, after all, handle ! :^)

Well I don't mind *too* much if it handles :-), just so long as
it - or any other car - is not *too* good. For example I had briefly
looked at Audi Quattros, but I think i'd rule them out on that
    basis.

    >but I think the provocation has to be fairly severe, like in a
    >Porsche 911.

I'm only looking at road cars, so whizz-whizz-spin-thump is not
going to be a problem. Besides, I'm not a fast driver ...

I'm now looking at CCCs that are rwd, 0-60 around 8 or better, and
about 11k or less for a fairly late one. Not too big, not too small
(so hot hatches are out), and preferably something that does not attract
    attention ......

    Cheers
    Marc

859.29Try Peter Maiden cars, they're the importer.CURRNT::SAXBYDigital? Yeah I worked there ONCE!Thu Feb 08 1990 09:1716

Why not try and find a Irmscher modified Manta?

These would seem to fit your bill perfectly. The cars are good handling
RWD cars with 0-60 in the 6-8 second range (depending on which one
you find) and have a pretty good top speed. They look good too (ok,
that's a matter of opinion, but most people I know like the look)
and have realistic carrying capacity for 4 adults (more than you
    can say of a Capri!).

    There's an i200, i220 (I think) and an i240.All these have variously
bored and tuned versions of the Manta GTE engine. I have heard rumours
of an i300 with the Monza straight 6, but I've never seen one. Now
    that would be something!

    Rathole here....

Is it true that the reason it's called a Starion is because the
Japanese were meaning Stallion but couldn't pronounce the 'l', so the
name stuck? Or is that just a silly rumour ...? :-]

Seen this moring near DECpark a CCC

Mk 1 or Mk2 Ford Cortina with one of those cooling ducts that look
line periscopes (SP?) for submariens mounted in the middle of the
bonnet. The Cortina also had shiny wheels (reminisent of car in
Starsky & Hutch) plus what sounded like a Rover V8.

This car was painted in dark red. I did'nt notice if there were
any furry dice hanging from the rear vuew mirror :-)

    A real TASTLESS CAR.
