Big wheels keep on turning
Carrying me home to see my kin
Singing songs about the Southland
I miss Alabamy once again (and I think it's a sin)

I believe that .1 (I miss Alabamy once again) is correct. Where did
Ole 'Bamy come from (I don't believe that a lyric sheet was included
with "Pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd")

| It's been years, but they were just "remembered" from the "Gold &
Platinum" lyric sheet. Any number of things could have happened to
either my memory (ie that's just the way I remember it, I'm not
swearing it's correct) or to the lyric sheet between the release of the
original and the release of the greatest hits. In addition, I've heard
lyric writers complain about editors fouling up the exact lyrics they'd
originally written down for the sake of being 'correct' or at least
close.

| Usually there are intentional errors in printed lyrics so that the
publishers can catch pirates when they reproduce the error.
Bob Dylan always leaves out one verse completely.

This song was the most popular hit from their album after their debut
album (Pronunced). The title of this album was "Second Helping".
Bill
I'm old Lynryd Skynyrd Fan who was lucky enough to catch them Live in
in March '74 in Memphis before the big plane crash in October '77. My
favorite song from that album was "The Ballad Of Curtis Lowe". I used
to be friends with Furry Lewis in Memphis, and that song pretty well
describes the relationship I had with Furry.

Hi Jeff,
I might as well tell you that if you want anyone to read your entries,
you'd be well advised to use mixed case letters. Many of us
"sophisticated" noters are accustomed to being shouted at in upper case,
and so we feel upset to see so many caps. GET IT?!

371.19 | The Tribute Tour & Allen Collins | WELCLU::SMITHM | Think Global - Act Local.... | Tue May 10 1994 13:58 | 29 |
| I visited the states recently and brought back a copy of Trbute to LS on video.
Some pretty awful stuff about Mom, Dad and Apple pie and born again
Christians etc but some of the music is OK although while Jonnie Van Zant
probably sounds better live than his older brother he looks very uncomfortable
about being up there. Overall not a 'band ' feel about it, more a bunch of
people doing it for the money :-(.
A couple of questions:-
..The Vid features some (small) extracts of film from the live appearance at
Knebworth in 77.
I think its the same film they featured on the OGWT in the UK.
Anyone know if thats available anywhere on video. I was at that show and would
very much like to get a copy of it partly for nostalgia but mainly because they
were great that day.
..Allen Collins appeared in the tribute vid in a wheelchair looking like he's
had a real hard time of it. He didnt speak at all and I suspect only grudgingly
agreed to appear. The narrative stated he'd been in a car crash recently.
Looking at a new Son of LS album in the local record shop last week I noticed
a dedication to Allen Collins apparently indicating that he's died.
Anyone know what the story is there.
Mike

371.20 | the tragedy continued... | SWAM2::ANDERSON_RO | | Fri May 13 1994 20:30 | 13 |
| As near as I can remember:
after the fateful Skynyrd plane crash, Allen Collins was part of
the Rossington Collins Band (2 albums) and also formed the Allen Collins
Band (1 album). Sometime during this period his wife (or girl friend)
died in a car wreck. He was depressed and perhaps drank too much and
eventually ended up in a car crash himself. He was paralyzed from the
waist down (as could be seen in the tribute video.) I think it was over
a year ago when he came down with pneumonia and died as a result.
There's a note in this file or the GUITAR notesfile that discusses it.

| There's a spinoff group from Rossington Collins. I can't think of their
name right now. They're out off Jacksonville Florida. A friend of mine
is the bass player. His name is Peter Frizell.
