    Chris,

I did think about that one but felt that Black Grape deserve
recognition of their efforts by having their own topic.

Saw Black Grape on ToTP last night. They're a weird bunch, aren't they?
I think I need to hear some more of their stuff, but I think they're pretty
good so far.

1318.4Happy Mondays Part DeuxYUPPY::ASHLEYSMITHknackered kneeFri Aug 04 1995 13:575
Heard some tracks on the radio from "It's great when your straight..."
the other day and they sounded pretty darn good too. Something called
'Submarine' particuarly stood out - LP's out Monday.

They could do with dropping Pato Banton, though.
1318.6Shouldn't that be Kermit ?????? .5CHEFS::CROSSAWed Aug 09 1995 11:3210
    ref .5 huh?

Last weeks NME gave the album a 10/10 which is a pretty rare occurence.
This is the paper who launched the fianl witch hunt to help bury the
Mondays as the drugs, homophobia etc came on.
Having heard the singles and read the interview with them in said NME I
think this could be well worth checking out. Has anyone bought a copy
yet ? Whats the opinion ?

"Its great when your straight....." is shambolic, directionless,
catchy and at times quite brilliant. In essence, if you liked the
    Mondays, you'll like this.

Both singles are included followed by the drug-induced beat of
'Tramazi Party' and the superb 'Kelly's Heroes' ("Jesus was a blackman,
No Jesus was Batman, nahh that was Bruce Wayne!")

Second side holds probably the best two tracks 'Shake your Money'
and 'Submarine' which includes the Stones' 'Fool to Cry' thrown in as the
chorus. 'A Big Day in the North' is like the Mondays in one of their
more ponderous moments but, hey, don't let that put you off, this is
    a fine album.

One ticket to Black Grape at the Kentish Town Forum this Friday (i.e.
the 13th). Cost is 15 (which is face plus the extortionate booking fee
    that Ticketmaster added).

Anybody interested should email/VAX mail/whatever mail at either

The gig on Friday was superb. Excellent atmosphere at the venue (shame
that Kentish Town is a boil on the backside of the Earth). Played all
of the album without descending to the shambles that the Mondays live
    act could....

    Well worth seeing.

New single is "Kellys Heroes". Best track of the cd.

Contains possibly the only reference to Jesus and Batman being the same
    person.
