thew Kick Inside !!

Vandross. They should bring back hanging for that thing he did with Mariah 'My
hubbys the boss' Cary.
And what happened to the Best Newcomer whose been gigging for 8 years and
made 6 indie albums Category?
And is Jonathan King still doing it (more Mick Fleetwood please!!!)
God, I hate music awards. Still could be worse - could be the Grammy's (Tony
Bennett - Best Male Artist who remembers Dinosaurs)

1270.8 | Brit Awards | YUPPY::CONNELLA | | Fri Jan 20 1995 13:16 | 9 |
| I may be new to this conference, but can any one tell me what Sinead
O'Connor (nothing compares to you) has done recently pop wise and why
on earth is she included in the best female line up???
I agree, the Brit Awards are meaningless, half the nominees are at best
one hit wonders , at worst old timers who release greatest hit cd's and
get nominations (as much as I like their music!!)

| ...though Lisa Stansfield, Kate Bush and Michelle Gayle's albums must've passed
me by. Hasn't Michelle Gayle only released 2 singles? I can't remember when
Lisa Stansfield last put anything out, and I thought the Red Shoes was Bush's
last one (didn't think it was 1994 though).
I'm surprised flamin' Annie Lennox didn't get a nomination - she usually does.

| They really do seem to scrape the barrel with these awards, esp when it
comes to the female category. Its certainly not going to be as
interesting as the Sam Fox/Mick Fleetwood show - or the KLF/Extreme
Noise TError performance from a couple of years ago. Or was that a
different award ceremony?

"Greatest Hits" albums don't count, you have to have had a
*new* album released in the last year to get a nomination,
hence no Take That.
Live albums are OK apparently, that's how Bryan Adams made it
through (with his 1988 recording).

| Barrel - commonly a large wooden/metal/plastic cylindrical recepticle for the
containment of liquid substances.
Toilet - commonly a largeish porcelain saxophone shaped recepticle for
collection of effluent, and the disposal thereof.
Therefore, Mr or Mrs Traffic is suggesting that the BRIT awards are a cylinder
full of porcelain foghorns, whereas he possibly meant to say that they are a
Barrel o' sh!+e.
