I do remember one of Steve Wrights guests last year talking about the
recording, can't remember who he was though or how it came about...

| Oh my sainted aunt.
My dad has been raving about this monstrous record for weeks. Apparently
it lasts the best part of 72 minutes.
But I can't remember who it's by and I can't speak to my dad until the
weekend.
Try ringing Radio 2 or Classic FM, I think they play it, or mention it,
repeatedly.
Unhelpfully yours,
Goldy.

1206.3 | Gavin Bryars / Tom Waits | FORTY2::ASH | Mail Interchange Group, Reading | Thu Jan 27 1994 16:59 | 9 |
| Aaarrggh, no it's awful! No, not fair, I haven't heard (more than 5 mins of) it.
It's by Gavin Bryars, with additional vocal by Tom Waits. You'll most likely
find the album (yes, it's that long) in the Contemporary Classical section,
where all of Bryars' stuff is. He's a composer who works somewhere on the
classical - jazz 'boundary', and has quite a few records made. He also plays
(double bass I think) on some.

| I learned last week, that this rather striking piece of music is
available on a CD of the same name, on the Point Music label (cat.
no. 428-823-2).
