| I saw that OurPrice now sell LP's for around the tenner mark and
thought "hmmm....rip-off". You might try record fairs or some of the
mailorder places for better prices.

Well, I think you're probably wrong there. As collectables they
probably have a value of at least 1 and a lot of people still like
(and buy) Beatles albums. I wonder how many people will remember
Carter - The incredibly derivative machine in 20 years time?

"The Beatles were tuneless" ???
Certainly true of Revolution Number 9 on the White Album. Perhaps that
was an exception to their general output.

| Well to be boring and answer the basenote... Yes, you're out of touch if you
expect to pay 3.99 for an album. The only things around that price-range are
mini-albums (rare) and mid-price re-issues of classic albums, which are also
rare now. Perhaps now you understand vinyl-junkies' complaints about how we
have been migrated to CDs more-or-less against our will.
In Reading at Christmas the cheapest 'normal' LPs I found were 7.99 at HMV.
Our Price and the rest were in the 8-9+ range. May I note in passing that
this file was no use whatsoever in helping me find that out, despite my
recent note. Yeah, I'm taking about *you*.

| Albums, on vinyl, cassette or CD, are cheaper in real terms now than
they have ever been. Fact.
Piers
And I think I'll remember "You Fat Bastards!" for at least twenty
years. Brought more of a smile to my lips than the Beatles ever did.

There was an offer in the paper the other week. A disk every 2 months
or so, free rack etc ect. I was tempted but its an *awful* lot of money
really.

I heard on the tranny that 'The Beatles' first ever
number 1 fetched 10,000 quid at sotheby's last month.
The single was played on Radio Luxembourg and was a
rare equity.
I was wondering if any of you music buffs out there
know if there was a lot of the singles printed and if
there worth a bit of money,or was it just because this
particular single was the first ever played.
For you's who don't know,it was called 'Love me do' with
'PS I love you' on the 'B' side.
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Gary.
PS. I've got an original 1963 copy in the house.

| Hmm, I think I'm old enough to be pedantic about this!
Love Me Do, the Beatles' first single, did not reach number 1 - at least not
in its original release in 1962. It wasn't until the second single, Please
Please Me, in about March of 1963 that they had a No 1 (of course, this is the
UK, but I don't think they had any big hits elsewhere first).
After the storm of hits in 63-64, Love Me Do and other stuff they'd recorded
earlier was re-released and of course was a much bigger hit.
I imagine that the record which sold for so much was a copy of the 62 original
- I don't suppose all that many were made.

| For anyone into the Beatles, I got a cool book at crimble - Revolution
in the Head, by Ian McDonald. Goes through each song in turn, and
looks at how/when it was written/recorded, and the events in the
outside world that inspired it. The book is nowhere near as nerdy as
this sounds, and makes you want to go listen the records again.

Yeah, but the single wasn't just a re-release was it? - i.e. Wasn't
Ringo the drummer on the first release, but was then relegated to
tambourine (!!) for the second release in late '62 ?

| According the Rare Record Price Guide 1994, if it's
Parlophone R 4949 original black label, it's worth 50 pound (in mint
condition).
If it's the same label and number but original red label, it's only 35
pound.

Check out the BEATLES conference (BEATLE::BEATLES). There's some
collectors in there who know their stuff.

| Thanks Minne,
I'll hold on to them, and the other 60's singles I have.
I was amazed how many so call classic singles I actually had.
Perhaps I'll store them a little more carefully.
They may become valuable, some day...
