Who's Jan Hammer and how would I get a copy of the piece? Is it on an album? Is this a fair sample of Jan Hammer's work? Is he a guitarist first and foremost? Is this anything to do with Miami Vice (Crockett?)? Where have I heard this piece before? Was it a hit? What's the meaning of life! Richard

Re .3 Jan Hammer is a Jazz/Rock keyboard player, noted for his guitar-like keyboard style. The track Crockett's Theme is available on the album Escape from TV, which has other TV themes and pieces of incidental music he has written. And yes, it is from Miami Vice, and was a hit (I think). I haven't got any of his solo albums, but in the past he has played with The Mahavishnu Orchestra (Avant Garde Jazz Rock) and Al Di Meola (Jazz Rock Fusion). Electric Rendezvous and Tour De Force are two Al Di Meola albums featuring Jan Hammer which are worth checking out. Any more for any more Clive

Yes, the music is "Crockett's Theme" by Jan Hammer and is also available on a compilation of Miami Vice sountrack music (called Miami Vice II on MCA records). By the way the series of albums (Miami Vice I/II/III) are well worth buying/recording featuring what was an excellent TV soundtrack. I heard a remix of Crockett's Theme recently artist unknown - anyone have details ??? Simon |
