848.0. "The Town and Country" by ASICS::EDMUNDS (The flamingo's footrest) Thu Jun 06 1991 10:48

Anyone been to the Town and Country in Kentish Town? I'm going tonight,
and I'd like to know the score - the tickets have no seat allocations,
so is it first-arrive-get-best-seats? Is it worth arriving early? Any
other details (a general description would be great)?

    Thanks,
    Keith

I've never been, but I seem to recall from friends that its a standing
    venue.

The T&CC is (IMO) one of the best venues about. There are no seat
allocations, because the stalls are standing only. Upstairs there
are seats which, as far as I know, don't need any 'special ticket',
but I've never been up there anyway.

BTW If you are going by BR, make sure you give yourself PLENTY of time...

Yes, there are seats and tables upstairs - not allocated so first
come first served. You can get quite a good view and there's a bar
        at the back.

Me and the wife nipped along to see Saint Bob there last winter
( not my idea, honest ) and they did'nt open the upstairs area
until the lower level was virtually full. Pretty annoying considering
she was 8 months "with child" at the time. I felt like punching the
bouncers/management because of the crush which inevitably occured when
    they opened the gates.

Still, only one bad experience out of many trips, the place
is still the best venue in London, and the bar prices have only just
reached the 1.60 a pint that the Hammersmith Palais was asking around
    8 years ago.

Anyone know of somewhere to park close to the Town & Country (Forum) on
a Friday night? My family used to live round the corner so have
considered parking in the old road, but don't know if it's resident's
    parking only now or not.

    Cheers,
    Jane.

Its a reet bugger parking around there ( in fact there is normally a
warning on the ticket stubs ). When I have been there by car ( motah ), we
normally try to get there a bit early and park in a road which runs
parallelish.

The map isn't to scale and lacks a few details ( like other roads ), but
I hope you get the jist. The advantage of getting there early is
that you can go and get slaughtered before the show and annoy your
sober chaffeur/chaffeurese later with your mindless ramblings and
fallings over. This heightened state of awareness probably explains
why I will never make my fortune as a cartographer.

Thanks, Stuart. Clear and concise as ever, and very helpful.

     Cheers,
     Jane.
