| | I remember Bucks Fizz.

Can you remember on the Eurovision Song Contest when they were doing
`Making Your Mind Up' and one of the lads ripped the skirt of one of
    the lasses (Cheryl?).

That was pure sex to me at the time. I must have been about 12!!!
Buzz Fizz have influenced my life!!!!!

Cheryl (the thinner one?) is now a panellist on Sky's talent search program.

This is even worse, at our Poly ball, The Metropole Hotel, Brighton, New
Kids On The Block turned up, they were staying there and playing at the
Centre next door. Anyway being in the slightly inebriated state that
most of us were, we got their autographs, honestly we were taking the
    micheal, please believe me, please.

The security was amazing, one of my friends came up behind one of the
New Kids and this man mountain, and we're talking Everest, raised his
arm and knocked her to the ground.

I thought it was really funny all these 13 year olds screaming to be
let in and us wandering in and out not at all interested.

| | Re .16

While on holiday in Kenya, we were entertained by a Zulu singing group
("All the way from South Africa" - as the compere said). They sang a
lot of contempary South African stuff (similar to the material on
Graceland or that Johnny Clegg does) and then all of a sudden broke
into The Lion Sleeps Tonight (without the rather silly high bits of the
Tight Fit - due possibly to the lack of tight trousers?). Does anyone
know if this is an African song that they snapped up or has it just
    filtered through to Africa?

    Mark

PS While on the subject of African music, whenever we heard a radio or
a band playing (most hotels had a band in the evening) they seemed to
be playing the same song, which seemed to consist of two lines...

    	Jambo,
    	Jambo Bwana, etc, etc

Don't imagine all 'World music' is culturally uplifting! :^)

Wimowe (The Lion Sleeps Tonight) is indeed an old song, but I can't
remember where it originated, or who did the original version. I can
remember that Brian Eno covered it a good few years back.

Karl Denver sung it way back, I know because my mum has a copy and she
used to play it too regularly for comfort. What will the neighbours
    think.

Wimoweh was based on an actual Zulu chant, first made popular by the
Weavers in 1952 (in the US)

The Tokens took it to No. 1 in the USA under the title "The Lion Sleeps
    Tonight".

Also has been a hit for Karl Denver, Robert John and Tight Fit.

think) 'War Canoe', which is an old aboriginal chant.
