Yeah it was good stuff. I saw him at the NEC last Monday.
Unfortunately, we saw him from the side, so couldn't see the screens, but we
did see The band (or what there were of them) really clearly.
All our requests for "laughing gnome", were to no avail!
Mark.

| Of course, the burning question that is on everyone's lips (ouch!)
is...... did he do Laughing Gnome???

| Saw him at Docklands last night - it was good, but I was expecting
something a bit special, and it wasn't ! Simply Red were tons better !

No, he decided (according to the press) to leave out "Laughing Gnome"
as he had done tons of better music!!?

638.5 | Did you see... | SHAPES::BROWNM | This is MY decade! | Wed Mar 28 1990 12:42 | 5 |
| They had him live from the Docklands last night on Rock Steady. Seemed
all a bit boring for me, but I was suprised when he did `Fame' and part
of it sounded Housey!

| Went to see Bowie Monday and Tuesday 26/27 thought it was brilliant
he played a really good bluesy version of young Americans he was
really laid back and seemed to be really enjoying himself one of
the best visual concerts i have ever been to

I agree. The visuals where VERY imaginative. I don't like the
accoustics of Docklands! Apart from that I thought it was very
professional.

| You say that he did ALL of his hits - but did he do Life on Mars?
I went and bought "Changes Bowie" (presumably released to co-incide with the
tour and help Bowie's finances as he reaches dotage) as it seemed to have every
major hit on it from Space Odyssey through to the 80's - 18 tracks, good value
(if you haven't already got them). Got home, and started listening - it is in
chronological order. Got to Diamond Dogs and realised that L.O.M. was missing.
What a swizz - its my favourite track - I assumed that it would be there.
To answer an earlier note, the rendition of Fame has been remixed for the
release - which is probably what Bowie was playing. Doesn't cover up the
banality of the song though.
Who else are they peddling out now - I understand that Rod Stewart's been
wheeled out in his bath chair? I make an honourable exception for the Stones -
at least they're coming out with new material; most of the other 'golden
oldies' just seem to be going through the motions - they're creatively
exhausted.

| My Changesbowie, bought yesterday in Newbury, has Life on Mars on it.
Maybe you have a Cd or something with the track taken off for length
reasons.
I was actually impressed with the record, as I have always disliked
Bowie, I was amazed that I actually knew all of the songs on the
record.

I bought the cassette of Changes Bowie and it does have Life on
Mars on it.
And yes he did play it on the tour.

The Record and tape has two more tracks than the CD which are:-
Life on mars
Starman
I like the CD, but I think I would have prefered to have had these two
on the CD and a couple of the others dropped, but then that just my own
opinion...
Kevin.

638.12 | By the way, I haven't bought it yet.... | AYOV18::DROBB | I deny inhibition, escape definition | Mon Apr 02 1990 11:23 | 10 |
| Re. -1 - the CD actually has THREE tracks less than the LP/tape
(the missing tracks being three of my own personal faves - STARMAN,
LIFE ON MARS? and SOUND AND VISION). I'd like to have seen all
of these on the CD, in place of ZIGGY STARDUST ('b' side of THE
JEAN GENIE), SUFFRAGETTE CITY and DIAMOND DOGS (*very* minor hits,
in '76 and '74 respectively).
It also bugs me that DRIVE-IN SATURDAY has once again been left
off such a compilation. It's probably my favourite Bowie track
of all time, and did after all reach No.3 back in April '73.

| Heard Radio One this morning advertising the fact that they're
broadcasting this Sunday's (5/8) entire show from Milton Keynes
live on FM.
Having taken the decision not to attend any of the SOUND+VISION
shows, I'm looking forward to hearing him play all the old hits
'one last time'.

| Sorry Bob, but I haven't really been paying all that much attention
to the whole S+V thing, so I can't tell you who's in his latest
band. I'm fairly certain though that the likes of Carlos Alomar,
Dennis Davis, etc. are not in the frame. Nor indeed are the Sales
Bros. from Tin Machine (thank Gawd!).
