title or the singer but I know the tune . The bit from the chorus
goes like ....
"and you can thank your lucky stars that we're not as smart as we'd
like to think we are "
It was a hit around 1978 by an American guy I think . Again I think
his first name was Dean . Why I remember this song is that although
a female can be heard singing throughout this track she was never
mentioned while the track was charting . So name that tune ....
...........'cause I sure as hell can't .

I agree, but the simplicity of it is what makes it good. It's not
overcrowded, it's just straightforward backing music. It's the songs
that stands out. The b-side contains the a cappella version. Roll on

You can't just add a backing beat, and a few oh yeah's (wish I had
copy-right on that !!) and the song will be good. It seems that these
people find an old (or not so old) song that sold well, and add some
stuff, release it and reap in the cash. But some people buy that stuff!

| I think the Ben Liebrand mix of the Sting record is dreadful, but I'm
glad that such a classic song has made the chart, as it should have
done on first release. I don't really like Ben Liebrand, but some do
(Jan for instance).
Andy, I really like the DNA record. It's not just taking any old
record and putting a beat to it that makes it a hit. You have to know
what will go down well. Suzanne likes the record, so do her record
company, and so do the people who have made it No2.
I think an artist loses Brownie points for doing a cover version, but
how many of you like the Soup Dragons record? I personally have to do
a version of Tommy Roe's `Dizzy'. It's so tailor made for the current
climate, it's a great song and he can have half the royalties!

Re .25 Ok, so Suzanne Vega likes it. without being too bitchy, most
people wouldn't mind a bit more cash coming in. It will also give her
some attention, and people may buy her records because of it.
Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I wish people would leave the classic
(and the not so classic) songs alone, and let people remember them as
they are. Or, alternatively, do an imaginitive cover version of the
song.
My own thoughts - Andy.

I was hanging in Belgium the other day, waiting for the Hole/Nirvana
show to start, and I heard a record that sounded kind of interesting.
It had mainly male vocals (although a track that seemed to be by the
same band had female vocals) and I thought it sounded rather Swans-ish
(except that the female's voice seemed wrong). I almost recognized
one of the songs which referred to a "red-headed" or "red-haired"
woman or girl. The reference to the girl with red hair was repeated
over and over in the song.
Could someone please help identify this band?

| > I heard a cover version of Andy Williams' "Its too good to be true",
Is it actually "Can't Take My Eyes off You", or is that yet another Andy
Williams 'classic'?

Well, I'm not ashamed to admit knowing the whole first verse off by
heart! Amazing how I can remember passing pop songs from my youth but
not Pythagoras' Theorem!
Can't Take My Eyes Off You
You're just to good to be true,
Can't take my eyes off you
You feel like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
And if you feel like I feel
Please let me know love is real
You're just to good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you.
Of course, 50% was included in the Pet Shop Boys release 'Streets
With No Name/Can't Get Used to Losing You".
Andy Williams had some great songs written for him (such as this). One
of my favourites was 'Home Lovin' Man', a Greenaway/Cook (ie British)
composition if my memory serves me well.
