| John,
White label records are usually for promotion/dj use.

| Any chance of a list? If you have any you don't want, then I'm
interested, especially with stuff from the 80s.

601.4 | RECORDS GALORE | PEKING::THOMPSONJ | | Fri Feb 09 1990 14:27 | 10 |
| They're piled high in my spare room at the moment. I'll try and
get a list together Matty. I don't know how much of it is from
the 80's. At a guess I'd say it's mostly late 70's - early 80's.
There's a few "unfinished copies" and "thick" ones which are only
printed on one side in amongst them all - I think it'll take me
a while to sort them. When I have any sort of list, I'll let you
know.
John.

Out of curiosity, where did you get them from?

601.6 | Right Place at the Right Time | PEKING::THOMPSONJ | | Mon Feb 12 1990 12:32 | 21 |
| A couple of weeks ago, I was visiting a friend and his landlady
was talking about getting rid of some records as she is moving house.
I had a look at them and decided to buy them. Her ex husband used
to work in the record industry which is why there are so many white
labels. I had a good sort through them at the weekend and there
seems to be quite a few "goodies". There is some good stuff from
the 80's including: Ultravox, Spandau, Beat, Selector, Midge Ure,
+ more - All white labels. Had a word with someone who knows a
bit about white labels, and he said they are generally of a better
quality than the finished copies and some of the well known ones
could be worth quite a bit of dosh. I'm still compiling the list
(There's alot more there than I originallt thought - In the region
of 400 white labels, 200 finished copies + about 50 finished 12"'s.
As soon as it's complete, I'll let you know.
Cheers,
John.
PS - Anybody know when and where any record fais are held?
|
601.7 | | PEKING::AMANNP | Don't ask me why | Mon Feb 12 1990 12:39 | 5 |
| John they hold record fairs at St Mary's Church in Reading quite
often - but there are much better ones in London, but I'm not sure
where exactly these are held.

601.8 | RC | SHAPES::BROWNM | Eee, it's grand up north | Mon Feb 12 1990 12:59 | 6 |
| They also hold them at the United Reformed Church in Basingstoke, but
they're a bit boring. See Record Collector Magazine. It advertises
record fairs, and you could use the classified section to flog 'em.

601.12 | There is a lot of money in that list ... | GREBO::GURU | Only losers take the bus | Wed Feb 14 1990 09:24 | 1 |

601.13 | HOW MUCH? | PEKING::THOMPSONJ | | Wed Feb 14 1990 11:42 | 4 |

|
601.14 | Bids ! | WOTVAX::MOOREP | Break or be Broken | Wed Feb 14 1990 11:53 | 9 |
| I honestly think you are best advertising in Record Collector and not to name an
asking price, rather simply put "bids" at the side of each record on the list.
This way you will get a reasonable price as you can sell to the highest bidder.
Why not get a copy of record collector to judge current market prices.
If you have any Heaven 17 please reserve !!!

601.15 | Looking for a Record Collector | PEKING::THOMPSONJ | | Wed Feb 14 1990 12:04 | 5 |

- when does it come out?
John

601.16 | "Record Collector" collectable | WOTVAX::MOOREP | Break or be Broken | Wed Feb 14 1990 12:18 | 8 |
| W.H.Smiths are usually well stocked but they do tend to sell quite quickly.
I think they come out toward the end of the month. I would send you my latest
copy but the magazine in its is collectable and I always keep them for
reference.
If you want me to buy two copies next time I will, but I'm sure you could order
it yourself from a local newsagent
|
601.17 | Record Collector | SHAPES::BROWNM | _____Ecky Thump !_____ | Wed Feb 14 1990 13:12 | 7 |
| It comes out on 28th of each month, usually. aswell as WH Smiths, you
can get it in Mckenzies or NSS.
If you have any Madonna, New Order, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Joy
Division or any House music, then send me a mail.

Looks like you'll get lots of mail matty. As I haven't closely
followed this note I'm really not sure *why* you want mail. Oh
well...
Anyhow I've got that best of JDiv compilation - from their Warsaw
days to Luv will wear us out....on Factory of course...and it's a
double album/cassette/CD.

601.19 | Tim, could you you send me a list of JD stuff? | SHAPES::BROWNM | _*_*_Sunny Doncaster_*_*_ | Wed Feb 14 1990 16:34 | 9 |
| Tim,
So you have `An Ideal For Living' 7"?
I meant RE. the white labels. Although anything RE. Madonna I would
like, unless I already have it, of course, which is quite probable.

601.20 | Wanna book ?? | JUMBLY::OCONNOR | Bob Green's not answering his phone | Thu Feb 15 1990 11:24 | 19 |
|
Nope, Mat, I do not have "An Ideal For Living". I have the double
album/cassette (released in '88 I think) which is a retrospective on
JD.
It begins with early punkish stuff like "They Walked in Line" moves
onto "Digital" (The company song!), "Transmission", "Novelty", the
excellent "These Days" , "Atmosphere" and as I said Love Will wear us
out...and lots more.
I once had a 12' Warsaw single with "At a Later Date" and very
Stooges-ish raw punk songs (from '78 I think).
BTW I have a lil' booklet on JD/NOrder which was with the Monotony
Maker a couple of weeks back. It goes briefly into a JD retro with
some stuff on the `end' of JD. If you're interested I can send it on
to you. It may have a JD/NO discography, I'm not sure.
