| I guess it depends on what you mean by dance music. The remixes are
more 'club oriented' than the origianl tracks. Get the Madchester
remix, its brilliant!!! Try playing the Rave On remix at 33, its just
as good as the proper speed!!!
WFL is indeed Wrote For Luck. Err...in the charts twice you say? I
didn't realise that Wrote for Luck was out as a seperate release to WFL
- maybe its a 7"?
Check out the Bummed lp, not as a dance oriented as I suspect you
prefer, but good stuff all the same.
I believe that HM are gonna be THE band this year, much more than Stone
Roses (sorry Stuart!!!).

At last, someones started a topic up.
Damn Groovy band, So far they've had 2 albums "24 hour party people"
and " Bummed" I prefer "Bummed" This isnt very dancey, far more,
guitary. The original Wrote for Luck was released as a single of
"bummed" I think. Its definitely worth investing in the WFL 12"
Theres 2 mixes, One by Paul Okenfold and the other which was the
one that was played most recently is mixed by Vince Clarke. If youre
groovey enough to be a CD person, Then the CD version of this single
Is good. It has the One armed Boxer mix of Lazyitis on it.
You can also check out the "freaky Dancing" track. This is sort
of crossover guitar dance.
The remixes of Madchester are completely different to the originals.
You wouldnt recognise Rave On as the same song. This band definitely
knows what it is doing and is a force to be reckoned with this year.
Theyre my personal fave at the moment, so this is quite a biased
opinion. But try and get in to it, Its well worth it!
Richie Rich, God bless look after Mum Drive carefully some dates
still available, What can I do for you squire??...News????
P.S Bye Bye Mike.

From their pre-Bummed days I've only heard "24 Hour Party People" which is OK,
but not a patch on their Bummed stuff and Madchester EP.
Most music papers thought the video to be mediocre, and that they were cashing
in on their current success.
If any one is interested they are on SNUB tonight at 6.40pm on BBC2.

I must agree with .38 What a load of cr*p bringing out a single
with two, three, four....fifty... different mixes of the same
song on it. One's enough for me. I must admit though that at least
with the Mondays latest all the mixes are on the same piece of vinyl.
I went out recently to buy The Inspiral Carpets recent smash hit
single on CD, but as usual in a big city like Dunfermline, no one
had. So after many dissapointments I thought I'd just buy the 12"
version instead. Rummaging around the 12" section I found the
Robbery Mix. 'Oh, I'll buy that cos even if the mix is crap I'll at
least have the song at last', me thinks to myself. Was I wrong or
was I wrong. Not the slightest hint of the REAL song to be found
anywhere on the record, and both mixes were cr*p.
Obviously a few of you hip ones out there enjoy your MIX versions
but I'd personally like to hear a different song...Call me old
fashioned......

Back to the Mondays, "Step On" is a killer of a track, after numerous listens to

I like the 3 mixes on the CD and I stand corrected about Paul Oakenfold not

| I saw the Mondays a couple of weeks ago during their "From Manchester
With Love" tour in Los Angeles and I've got some questions that I'm
sure all you Manchesterheads can answer:
First of all, they turned the Palladium supposedly into the
Hacienda...they brought in the DJ's and atmosphere for the occassion.
Does the Hacienda have dry ice machines going throughout the club??
I thought it was pretty annoying; I couldn't see, I couldn't breathe
and it was 120 degrees in there. Plus there was a machine spurting
smoke right in front of the bands, making it even harder to see. Does
someone actually think that's fun? Am I getting too old or do you have
to be on ecstasy to appreciate the atmosphere?
Second of all, I don't get the "dancer" dude in the Mondays. Does
someone think he can actually dance well? His dancing looked like a cross
between Chas from Madness and Morrissey. What talent does he possess
that warrants him being part of the Mondays? Am I getting too old or do
you have to be on ecstasy to appreciate him?? (Wait, I heard that line
somewhere before.)
Actually, I had a good time, but I wouldn't want to do it every
weekend.
BTW- The Mondays are currently in LA recording their next album.

| The new album is EXCELLENT! A must for true fans. I only got it
last weekend, and have only listened to it about 3 or 4 times, but
it is a corker.....very musical and a little different to previous
Happy Mondays material.
Kinky Afro becomes Groovy Afro, and Step On is a remixed version.
My personal favourites are Gods Cop and Holiday ( the former is
an absolute classic ).
I also attended the Glasgow S.E.C.C. date on the 27th of this month
and received a first hand taste of the new stuff.....very worthwhile
indeed!! A great experience!
I would definetely recommend Pills 'n' Thrills & Bellyaches to anyone.

| I bought a copy on Friday from Our Price in Broad St, Reading, and
it jumped something terrible. A same-day replacement does as well.
I'll try it again but if it still doesn't work I'll give up on it.
Seems to be a good album when the needle stays in the groove.

record production is not as of good quality as it used to be.
Appartenly you can see all the scratches when you hold a record up to
the light, but not by simply looking straight at it.

| Seeing as there hasn't been an entry in here for a while,I thought I'd
stick one in myself.
For about the past year or so since I first heard the Happy Mondays I
have been listening to them quite a bit and I think they are currently
the best group about.
I went to see them in concert twice last year, the first time in June in
San Antonio, where Paul Okenfold(I think thats how you spell it) was the DJ
and it was a great night.
The second time at the S.E.C.C where they played some of their older
stuff and a lot from Pills n Thrills and Bellyaches. This was a great
night as well but I thought some of the songs sounded as though they
were playing a backing track and Shaun Ryder was singing, either that
or they were just playing good.

The band. The music. The hype. The clothes. The cynicism. The blandness.
They remind me of bad mid-70s pub rock. (Packaged differently mind you).

(Which reminds me I bought a Dead Kennedy's CD recently which I haven't
listened to yet - not because the DKs are talentless - just because
they are/were a California band).

| re: -1 Huh?
Actually the Kennedy's are a Northern California band
(Berkley/San Francisco) and if you knew anything about the North/South
rivalry in CA, you'd know that no one from the No. would like to
be accused (their point-of-view) of being in the same time zone
as the So., let along the same state. (Of course the No. is home
to our state capital/government, which just goes to show why it's
so lame.)
-Vicki_totally_off_the_subject
PS In a recent interview, Morrissey slams the "new" Manchester scene
into the ground. Of course he thinks the Smiths are the only good
thing to come out of Manchester --- post-punk that is.

You should be proud of San Francisco Vicki...what with The Residents
(I think) and other notables based there, and in the area (Tuxedo Moon,
Ralph Records, the DKs themselves - oh well then...maybe you shouldn't.)
And there's the bookshops and the bits of history. Having said that,
I've never been there mind you...
The Dead Kennedy's CD which I bought is called "Bedtime For Democracy".
It's witty and not as thrash-ish as I thought it would be. Damn fine
music.
Anyway I didn't mean to confuse San Francisco and Manchester (really).

I would honestly rather to talk about The Residents and Ralph Records
(maybe I should start up a note), however the reason I hate the Happy
Mondays are all the reasons outlined above (which if you know their
story - it's quite obvious what I'm referring to, e.g. the cynicism).
I find the songs and music bland and talentless. Every one to his
taste. It's even been heard of that some people can't stand Bob
Dylan (!) I'm smiling! One man's fish is another man's "poisson" and
all that.
I feel tired already.

Hey Vicki! If you're going to say hello to the Residents you'd be the
very first person to do it - isn't that right ? I thought that the
foursome were still unknown/annonymous. So who are they ? (I'll hold
the front page!)
Another SF twosome that I'm listening to at present are Steven Brown
and Blaine Reininger, both ex-Tuxedo Moon. The CD was recorded live
in Lisbon and features one on piano and the other on violin. Again damn
fine music considering that they limit themselves to two instruments.
It's on the Belgian label that they've been associated with for quite a
while now; Les Disques du Crepuscule.
That's quite enough artiness for this evening (oblig thing -;)

PS If you do visit S.F. - kill Ralph!

Am I supposed to know what you're talking about or was it a question
for anyone? Do you mean the old Victorian houses in San Francisco?
(great name, don't you think?) Do you watch a lot of "Streets of

tim-
I was kinda being sarcastic. But I think some the members of the
Residents have come out; I seem to remember reading something about
that, but don't ask me for details. And I'll kill Ralph if you
send me $1 million, in small unmarked bills of course.

| Couleur 3 has been playing some tracks off the new lp. There're some decent
tunes in there, but Shaun thingy has got such a flat delivery of the lyrics
that they sound a bit dour, a bit like the Fall come to think of it. Besides
for me the Mondays are so closely identified with Madchester that they sound
a little dated (what a thing to say about a scene that's only a couple of
years old..).

| Anyone see The Word on Friday - really sad!
It's sad enough seeing Shaun Ryder in such a state but for those
plonkers, especially that turd terry, too make a complete fool of
him, though he was doing a good job himself, while they were totally
sober was even worse. The director should never allowed the interview to
take place. He couldn't even remember who was in his new band.
I must admit I did chuckle at the end - imagine it - a techno band were
playing thier version of the Rainbow song, all the physcadelic lights
were on,Zippy,Bungo and George were dancing away and on staggers Shaun
to join them for a dance.Did he know he was on the word or was he on
Rainbow - I think he was on mars.I think if I'd been in his state
dancing with that lot to that "tune"? would have totally freaked me for
good.
