574.0. "Who sang??" by SHAPES::WILLIAMSJ1 () Thu Jan 04 1990 13:34

    Who sang the song a few years back (10 - 15??) with lyrics something
    like

    "If I had words .... to say to you...
     I would sing them,... golden and blue
     If I had words  .....

    I think it was a coloured girl and it was sort of eurovision style
    -ish.

    It's been bugging me for a while now, cos the tune sounds like a
    classical piece written in the 1800's.

    PLEASE, someone, must know what I'm talking about.

    Help...

    Hi Julia,

    "If I Had Words" was a hit for Scott Fitzgerald and Yvonne Keely
    back in '78 - I think it's the same song you're referring to.
    I don't believe it was actually a Eurovision song, but didn't
    Scott Fitzgerald represent the UK in the contest just a couple
    of years ago?

    Not exactly the same but, Over the last few months Kronenbourg have
    used a very pleasant background music in their advertisements.

      The question is.....have you guessed yet.......who
    perfomed/wrote/recorded this piece and by what name did they call
    it.

    thanx in advance

      Alan.

574.5Another questionAYOU30::PAULCI stumble and slideFri Aug 31 1990 13:4510
    Here's one that's been bugging me for years. Back in the 60s there
    was a novelty record about a group of pioneers on their wagon being
    chased by some Cherokees, and the wheels falling off one by one.
    You know the one..."four wheels on my wagon and I'm just rolling along...",
    "three wheels on my wagon and I'm still rolling along..." etc.

    Question is, what was the title, and who was it by?

    Thanks,
    Paul
574.6Not too sure but..VOGON::MORGANThe King of Wishful ThinkingFri Aug 31 1990 13:537
    I *think* it was called 'Three Wheels on my Wagon' by the the New
    Christie (sp) Minstrels.

    And I remember Uncle Mac !!

    Thanks very much, Rich. The strange thing is, I thought it was a hit
    (I've got vague recollections of them performing on Top Of The Pops - maybe
    it was Crackerjack :-)) but I've never seen it mentioned in the Guinness
    Book of British Hit Singles.

    I keep hearing the song from the latest Levi's 501 advert (the one
    where the bloke rides his motorbike in to an office and rides off into
    the sunset complete with woman and 501's).
    	It starts with "Some people call me the space cowboy....".
    Could somebody please tell me what it's called and who it's by?

	Thanks in advance,

       "Itsy Bitsy, Teeny Weeny, Yellow swimwear..." from 1960

       Also in the charts at the moment are:

       I'll Never Fall in Love Again (and 3 other Bacharach & David songs)
       Black Cat (Janet Jackson)
       Life's What You Make It (Talk Talk re-release)
       Silhouettes (Cliff Richard remake of a 1965 Herman's Hermits record)
       I Can See Clearly Now (1972 Johnny Nash hit by Hothouse Flowers)
       Tom's Diner (remix)
       Englishman in New York (Sting)
       Rhythm of the Rain (1963 Cascades hit, remade by a minor soap actor)
       and a 'master mix' of the the Can Can, with some Beach Boy's songs!

       Over 25% of the top 40 are revivals. Maybe the New Christie Minstrels
       should consider re-releasing "Three Wheels on my Wagon"!

    Sorry for the lack of info on this one, but.....

    On the Rock n' Roll Years on Tuesday 4/9/90, the year was 1967 and they
    played one track that I've heard before but just don't know the name;
    in fact I can't even remember the footage; however, it did have the
    words "Stop, Look ....." in the chorus.

    Also, way back in a previous reply to this note somebody asked what
    the music was for the Kronenbourg ad on ITV (where the father & son
    look down on a dockalnd setting....)...any ideas what that could be
    (it does sound very Gentle Giant'ish).

    Cheers

    The answer is indeed Buffalo Springfield.

    The tune is called 'For what it's worth' written by Stephen Stills

    Opening lines ;

    "Somethin' happenin' here
    What it is ain't exactly clear"

    goes on to the lines ....

    "Stop baby, What's that sound,
    everbody look what's goin' down"

    Think it refers to the student/campus riots at the time.

I'd like to know who is singing a song called "Back Velvet" I think. It's a
woman (I think she is canadian), the song is on the radio these days and
it has a kind of blues rythm. Sounds a lot like Texas also.

Who is she ? Any album available ?

Actual spelling is Allaynah Myles. Warning - that song is NOT typical of the
album. The rest of it is much more in the standard rock vein, ala Pat Benetar
or Heart.

	Well the "Who Sang" note is as good as any for this...

	I've heard a song twice this week that has the line:

		"Desert boots and duffle coats"

	with lots of acoustic (steel?) guitar. The video has a pair of desert
	boots walking around on their own, classic! Other pieces of clothing
	also behave in a somewhat indepandant fashion :-) Could anyone out there
	tell me who it is, what the song's called & give a bit of info on the
	band (albums/wot they're like).

	If I had to guess where they were from I'd say Ireland, but no doubt
	they hail from Manchester.

    Not much to go on this with one. My brother is trying to find the name
    of a song he heard in the late sixties. All he can tell me about it is
    that one of the lines contains something like "going on a tuppenny bus
