573.0. "Waddya get" by HYEND::SCHILTON (When they said sit down,I stood up) Wed Jan 03 1990 16:39

    ... for Christmas ... music, I mean.

I got (2) Stone Roses, Tom Wait's Heart of Satruday Night, Ian
McCullough's Candleland, The Cure's Disintegration, Harry Connick
Jr's soundtrack from the film When Harry Met Sally and .... ooh
bugger, it's slipped my mind ... one more...

So far I love Disintegration, some of the Stone Roses stuff, and
    some of Harry Connick Jr.

And I must confess, I haven't played Tom Waits yet - shame!

The primitives are a garage band aren't they?

    re: .9 James

I wouldn't consider them a garage band. To get a better idea of
what they're like I'd recommend you read notes 18.101 and 20.291. The
first is a review of the album "Pure" and the second is a review of the
    group live.

A few goodies so far ... but more to get.

Mary Margaret O'Hara - Miss America

Just sit back and let this Album flow over you.

    Neville Brothers - Yellow Moon

Every track is a different musical style. Aaron's (sp) voice
        is unbelievable.

    Toni Childs - Union

Been wanting this album for about a year now. Worth the wait!

Bonnie Raitt - 2 older albums from the 70's

I am beginning to think she is the female Ry Cooder as her albums
cross quite a few musical styles.

I am holding off trading in my Record Vouchers till I get the full
    benefit of these albums.

    I got some LPs...

the new UB40 Labour of Love II (initially
    disappointing - I'm hoping It'll grow on me);

    Chris Rea's Road to
    Hell (not as good as Dancing with Strangers, but good just the same);

    and

Eurythmics' We Too are One - Pretty Good, again, for some reason
not as good or as immediate as previous efforts, but a grower.
In fact, I still think that the live versions of their new (and
old!) material as recently broadcast on TV (and Independent Radio)
    are vastly superior!

However, the pressie that outshone them all was the Guiness Book
of Rock Stars. Pretty naff title, but don't judge the book by
its title. It contains comprehensive chronological details of all
major Rock people ( and a lot of minor ones). It covers all record
releases, major events, personnel changes and even what they are
up to now. Unfortunately, the cut off date was the middle of '88,
but even so, the amount of information is vast. Pete Frame was
involved, so you know it's good! The only omission I have uncovered
    is that of Curved Air.

Has anyone else got this book? Have you any comments about noteable
    omissions?

    Dave

the new one by Billy Joel - Stormfront, quite good, it actually
sounds alot smoother than it did on the radio, perhaps the single
    was a different version?
