555.0. "Best of the worst of the eighties 5 minute wonders" by WELMTS::GREENB (In love, in fear, in hate, in tears) Wed Nov 29 1989 11:49

Care to name any of those five-minute wonders of the last decade,
those that you thought had passed and now dread to remember?

I'll start the ball rolling with Tight Fit, Liquid Gold, and Hayzee
    Fantayzee...

Neil, at one time you couldn't flipping get away from them!

I'd also like an honourable mention here of those early stalwarts
of electro-bop, the mighty Landscape (Einstein a Go-go)

555.4Modern Romance?YUPPY::OHAGANBVambo rules okay!!Wed Nov 29 1989 13:3312
They probably don't qualify on the grounds that had more than one
hit...........but how could anyone ever forget, the one and only,
    MODERN ROMANCE!! ( aaaaaggggghhhhh!!!! )

Remember the lead singer who looked like a spiv with that moustache?
How could anyone forget that git of a bass player with the wedge
haircut ( complete with streaks ) and the way that he used to pout
    at the camera on TOTP's?

And God those songs!! Latin meets Salsa meets Leighton Buzzard equals
dance the human chain round the Benidorm nightclub after 26 pints
    of lager. Ohhhhhhh!!

Of course we mustn't for Sigue Sigue Sickbag (sorry) Sputnik. What a
lovable bunch of rapscallions they were, and so talented :^)

I think Modern Romance had slightly more than one hit, too, but
no thanks to you for reminding me of them!!

I like all these one hit `HOUSE' wonders who always feature someone.
If they're only gonna have one hit, why don't they have the singer in
    the band ?

555.9WELMTS::GREENBIn love, in fear, in hate, in tearsFri Dec 01 1989 08:597
The point about a lot of these one-hit house/dance records is that
very often it's the same people masquerading under several different
    names. An article in this month's Q throws a lot of light on this;
just check out the names of the 'producers', you'll find there are
far less of them than there are 'bands'.

    yeah,

Like Todd Terry, Mark Moore, Tim Simenon ans Pascal Gabriel.

But not all of them continue their careers.

AH Tight Fit! and it was as I remember. Interesting costumes! (Who
    cares about the music.)

Wasn't it something about "in the jungle, I jump around and all
you in the front row get a good view"?

    Wasn't Joe Dolce 1980s too?

No, I think that awful bloke was late 70's. I remember because Terry
Wogan (yeah, I know, Terry Wogan on Radio 2) used to play it every day
and I memorised the words for some reason.

    Awful.

Re .11 I think the track in question was/is called 'The Lion Roars
Tonight'. To my knowledge it's been 'done' by a number of artists.
