368.1 | Music Master | HAMPS::POORE | Stuart Poore, SRAC, Basingstoke, UK | Tue Mar 14 1989 11:53 | 12 |
| Yes, but it'll cost yah.
I believe it's called the Music Master. I bougth a copy many many moons
ago, for 16, but it only listed records that were currently available,
not those deleted. In the back it listed back issues & the like & they
do a multi volume hardback set of everything (singles & albums) ever
released I think.
It's mainly for record shops & the like. Look in your local WH Smith
or Our Price to see how they order their back numbers.

| The "Music Master Track Index" will set you back 19.95. Be warned
that it's very selective (e.g. no reference to 70's albums from
Little Feat or Graham Parker, for instance, even though they sold
pretty well at the time).
The Virgin Mega-thingy in Oxford St usually stock them in the books
section. Failing that they're available direct from the publishers
(Hastings or somewhere like that). I suspect a phone call to Virgin
may be a good idea.
(There is also a Guiness Hit Albums book but this isn't too
comprehensive, either).
Good Luck!

the book Bruce Thomas ( ex=Attraction ) has published?
Thanks in anticipation,

the Attractions and featuring a character based on Elvis Costello?

| Well worth reading - Lost in Music, by Giles Smith. This came out in
paperback recently, and is an account of his interest in music as he
grew up, and his involvement in a band called 'Cleaners from Venus'.
Its very funny, especially the bits about Nik Kershaw.

| Also recommended - High Fidelity, by Nick Hornby. This is a novel
about a bloke who runs a record shop, and is also very funny and quite
touching.

I read an excerpt of this a while ago and it looked quite amusing. I

| I saw something the other day that questioned some bits of the book now
they have gone cabaret, and reformed. I think the word hypocrite was
used! Anyone confirm this?

| Sounds just like John Lydon to me....he quite happily admits to being a
hypocrite in the face of the enormous amount of dosh that they have
been offered, and I think I would be too...

Yes I have it - a good read that provides an interesting insight to the
events of that period. How much of it is truthful I do not know, not
all of it I'm sure.
