One correction about the previous note, The Glove was a Robert Smith/Steve
Severin collaboration.
I've also got a ? about 'Three Imaginary Boys' (released as 'Boys Don't Cry'
here in the STATES). I just recently traded in the album for the CD and was
quite surprised to find out not all the album tracks are on the CD.
Here's what I have:
RECORD (had) CD
1. Jumpin Someone Else's Train Boys Don't Cry
Boys Don't Cry Plastic Passion
Plastic Passion 10.15 Saturday Night
10:15 Saturday Night Accuracy
Accuracy So What *
Object * Jumping Someone Else's Train
Subway Song Subway Song
2. Killing an Arab Killing an Arab
Fire in Cairo Fire in Cairo
Another Day Another Day
Grinding Halt Grinding Halt
World War * Three Imaginary Boys
Three Imaginary Boys
(*'s are differences - besides order changes)
My question is what are the tracks on the U.K. releases of album and CD
respectively.
Thanx,
Ed

| That "glove" lp is called Blue Sunshine, and "Like an Animal" was
quite a big hit (Top 30) in the UK when it came out.
The 'links' between each track are credited to 'the man from nowhere',
and if they had been expanded, would have made for another interesting
record.

Boys Don't Cry + 3 Imaginary Boys.
Here in England they are two different albums though most of the tracks
are the same. I have seen a couple of different verions of the `Boys'
CD, one with the same listing as the album and the other one previously
mentioned. I'm pretty sure that `Imaginary' isn't on CD at all as
there are only a few new tracks on that album. Shame really, as some
of those songs like `Meathook' and their cover of old Jimi's `Foxy
Lady' are quite good.

these days. Anyword of a new album comming out by the cUrE, or
whether Robert Smith is letting his hair grow? Give me trivia...
In a recent issue of SPIN magazine it said there were a 11 or
12 votes for Smith as a write-in candidate for President of the
United States during the past presidential elections.

RE: -1
I was starting to think the very same; not much has been heard of
them for quite a while, and I would think that a new album would
be in the offing soon. For me "Kiss Me .." was a great studio effort,
and one of their most diverse so far.

361.42 | (nearly) new album in October | JANUS::CROOK | Every precious second is a chance to change | Mon Aug 13 1990 14:02 | 79 |
| Gosh! not much activity in this note lately.
How about: Cure in concert, new album alert, radio alert, miscellaneous info
I saw The Cure at the Crystal Palace Bowl on Saturday 11th August. This is an
open-air venue; sit on the grass etc. Due to the unexpected British summer
(ie it isn't raining very often at the moment) the environment was hot and
sunny and very pleasant.
There were 4 bands playing, but the Real Reason for going was to hear The Cure.
My sister and I whiled away the time people-watching, and seeing how many
different Cure T-shirts we could see (at least 20, I reckon).
The bands were (in order of appearance):
Lush
James
All About Eve
The Cure
There were two interesting A5 papers being handed out:
Firstly:
The Cure
THE SINGLE "NEVER ENOUGH" 10.9.90
B/W "LETS GO TO BED" (MILK MIX)
THE ALBUM "MIXED UP 8.10.90
CD. MC. 2LP
FEATURING 1990 REMIXES OF "A FOREST"
"THE WALK" "IN BETWEEN DAYS" "CLOSE TO ME"
"THE CATERPILLAR"
Then:
Cure F.M.
on friday aug 31 starting
at midnight you can join in
on the cure's very own
pirate party
tune in on ???fm
lets not go to bed
I enjoyed Lush (who I'd never heard of). I though James were pretty ordinary
(though a couple of their songs were OK) and All About Eve seemed pretty
boring. General audience reaction was entirely opposite to mine...
Robert Smith wasn't wearing black, and told a joke (apropos of nothing):
"A cheese and tomato sandwich went into a bar and asked for a pint. The barman
said, "I'm sorry, we don't serve food" "
Nice sense of timing Robert, but don't give up on the singing just yet...
I enjoyed the concert, but I didn't think that it was as good as Wembley last
year; there wasn't room for all the lighting effects (which I though really
enhanced last year's concert) and they didn't play "Plainsong" or "Hot, hot
hot!"
They did play "Killing an arab" which may have been interpreted by the audience
as a political statement...
(BTW: in case you don't know, Killing An Arab is based on the existentialist
novel The Outsider, by Camus. (don't let the word existentialist put you off,
it's quite a thin book, and very readable. I read it in a couple of evenings.))
(BTW: if you didn't know that, you may not know that Charlotte Sometimes is
based on the children's book Charlotte Sometimes, by Penelope Farmer (don't
let the fact that its a childrens book put you off - it's worth reading 'cos
you can then work out what the song's all about)
(BTW: are there any other Cure tracks which have matching books?)
Neal.

| Welll...The bowl was a reasonable venue, although I'm not too happy
with open air gigs at the moment.
The big 'off' thing for me tho was a 'pool' in front of the stage, so
no stage diving!!
Lush were OK. James were, as the man put it, 80%. The real problem
was that it was a hot afternoon, with zero atmosphere. Trying to
overcome that was a struggle, but they still turned in a great set,
finishing with Come Home, How was it for You, and Sit Down. Sit Down
was especially wonderfull, slightly more boogiefied than the single was.
One of the more fun aspects was pushing as far forward as possible,
then dancing madly, to the serious disapproval of the Goths. They were
not impressed with anyone trying to enjoy themselves, and at least one
of them nearly got a black eye without having to resort to makeup.
All About Eve apparently had Wayne Hussey on guitar, tho could have
been anyone from where i was sitting, scoffing vegetable curry. This
band were seriously dull.
The Cure were excellent, although I prefer indoors, smaller venues.
The set was better as it got darker, and there was some serious cutting
of rugs. As noted before, Robbie told a joke. That probably gave the
Goths a heart attack. The new single, Never Enough, sounded great, and
wegot around 2 1/2 hours worth of Cure.
The bad thing about the day - Getting out of the Car PArk and across
London whilst half asleep and suffering from sunstroke.
Good thing - Meeting our main Man Bruce. (who has gone off MAgda!!).
He had loads to say, but I can't remember it all.
BTW - Saw the Morrisey video at the weekend. After Every Day is Like
Sunday, there is film of the doors being opened at the gig, the second
girl in , with red/purple hair, is the famous Magda. For all you trivia
freakd out there.
HO Hum - fun day, but awfull toilets.

Okay, so I admit to being a disgustingly devoted CURE fan, though being
so in this conference is decidedly lame.
Now that that's done with, due to wine-saturated brain cells, I
completely forget to borrow a VCR and record this CURE special. I did
by luck tune into the show though and now I'm kicking myself for not
having recorded it, as it was such a superb (albeit immensely depressing)
retrospective of the CURE by Robert Smith.
Did anyone record it? I would do just about anything for a copy or the
chance to copy it.
In the NME interview of R.S. last week, I found it hilarious that he
finally gave the reason for the title of the DISINTEGRATION album.
After critics, fans, and DJs all guessed incorrectly that it signified
the imminent breakup of the CURE, or perhaps a separation between
R.S. and wife Mary, or even the complete dissolution of the remainder
of R.S.'s sanity, it turns out he wrote most of it on and as a result
of "the most depressing night" of his life; the day before he turned 30.

361.50 | The Cure - Wish | POBBLE::COTTON | | Tue Apr 21 1992 16:34 | 19 |
|
Oh good, another Cure Album.
Just what went wrong with the Cure? `The Head on the Door' was about the last
semi decent album they produced. Why is it the intros to their song are always
about 3 minutes too long? Why is it they only have two styles of songs (the
turgid one, and the slightly less turgid one)? Why? Why? Why?
My guess is it's because of their dreadful fans. Most of them seem content to
idolise whatever bloated pop or mock-gothickry noises their idols make, without
really judging it as anything other than Cure Product. They'll always flock to
their oversized gigs, always on their `last-ever' tour. They're willing to put
up with the childish witterings of a man 30plus who still can't use a comb.
Well, enough's enough. Bring down the Cure. Stick their bloody heads on the

| I'm afraid even Calgon won't work with my brain. The lines from Stuart
and me (in .56 and .57) are definitely from a Cure-song but it's not
"Boys Don't Cry". I'm still humming the tunes, but can't recall which
one it is. The chorus is something like "Come back, come back, don't
walk away, come back, come back your choice is made..." and includes
the words "Without You" - maybe that's the title ?
"Yesterday I felt so old" - and today much older

good heavens!!
the lines that have been quoted in the past few are from "inbetween

boys don't cry
--------------
i would say i'm sorry if i thought that it would change your mind
but i know that this time i have said too much, been too unkind
so i try to laugh about it
cover it all up with lies
i try to laugh about
hiding the tears in my eyes
'cause boys don't cry
i would break down at your feet, and beg forgiveness, plead with you
but i know that it's too late and now there's nothing i can do
so i try to laugh about it
cover it all up with lies
i try to laugh about it
hiding the tears in my eyes
'cause boys don't cry
i would tell you that i loved you if i thought that you would stay
but i know that it's no use and you've already gone away
misjudged your limit
pushed you too far
took you for granted
i thought that you needed me more...
now i would do most anything to get you back by my side
but i just keep on laughing, hiding the tears in my eyes
'cause boys don't cry
boys don't cry
and there you go!

| THe Cure are the best british band for the last ten years - if not one
of the most successful.
How many other bands can keep such a hold on thier fans over such a
long period ? Fans who get bored places are filled by a new bunch of
dedicated lookalikes of Mr Smith.
Their Success must be attributed to a number of qualities - Image, the
best in the buisness, Songs - some of the finnest pop tunes ever. Boys
dont Cry - Just like heaven etc etc, and the ability to have a
different style for every L.P.
Live you always get your moneys worth - usually around 3 hours - the
last hour being "a forest".
Runours are abound this next l.p will be thier last ever ...NO
honestly!!!
I for one will shed a tear the day the cure ends.
They provided me for one with a daft haircut for over 5 Years -
Numerous Girlfriends, quotes from songs that could make you weep and the
best music I have ever heard.
I will never tire of "All cats are Grey", "The Figurehead" or their
most recent classic - "From the edge of the deep green sea" one of the
ultimate L.p tracks.
What other group has produced 'b' sides as good as their 'a'sides
The exploding boy, New day and Halo - all Classics.
A true mould breaking group with a genius as a front man - the Best
alternative band ever - YES....

All thier L.p's- Including the Limited edition Kiss Me *3 - C.d,s,
Singles (Including most of their Limited editions) and even the
cassettes - some have more tracks on than the L.p.'s (I.e Standing on a
Beach, has all the B' sides up to that period that are not available on
other L.p's - and Faith which has Carnage Visors, a collection of
instrumentals for a film show they would play prior to the Faith
concerts.) - And a few DJ promos!
And all the Videos - I know it all sounds a bit much but it bacame a
hobby from about the age of 15, and then I became obssesed.
If anybody has anything for sale that they think I may not have then I
will be more than interested.
And that concert at Chrystal palace was a classic - not so much thier
performance more so the atmosphere and event - What a day!!

It was only sposed to last for 2 weeks, but ran into 3. Beacuse the

They are planning on starting recording again later this year with a
view of releasing in 95, and the article rekoned that they would not be
playing any Live gig's this year. Shame I was looking forward to seeing

else he might have caused a FAmily break up!
Anyway i feel sorry for poor Lol he stood by old Smithy in the mid
eighties only to be dumped on later - Admitedly he could'nt do anything
play an instrument correctly - had a drinks problem, and always looked
like he was in his mid forties. - but he was part of the Furniture -
the fridge i think?
Poor lol - In an interview with Mr Smith after Kiss me *3 he said Lol
was like an old thread bare cloth, that you carried everywhere with you
but did not know why??? And it was only when somebody questioned the
fact that he did realise why, it was thier mutual experiences that kept
them together.
- like gang beatings and taking the p!!s out of!!
