218.0. "Oh l'amour!" by CHEFS::MICOTTIN () Wed Sep 28 1988 14:43

Does anyone *dig* Erasure? I went to their show at Hammersmith
Odeon in May and though I didn't really know much by them, I thought
they were brilliant. Loved his mini, fishnets and stilletos!
Did anyone else out there go? What did you think?
I bought their latest album the day after- think I've been converted!

Well worth seeing! As you can probably tell by the title of this
topic, they did their version of `Oh L'amour'(alla Dollar),and it
was superb! What I didn't know was that they actually recorded it
first! How dare Tereze Bazar etc. ruin an excellent song like that!

I reckon their new single - can't remember the name of it though
    - is one of their best.

When they first started out, their music and his voice was so similar
to that of Alison Moyet that I was angry with the other chap for
splitting up with her to produce another protege, but I think its
getting better as they go on.

Like listening to the music but don't particularly care for watching
their videos or seeing them live. They don't seem to add much value
    to the song.

The `other guy' is Vince Clarke, and he really is the `Brains' behind
the group. Andy Bell is really just a *floozy* who can sing pretty
well, but it's Vince who writes the brilliant songs.Their new single
is `A little respect' by the way. Good stuff!!

    you swine,

andy bell also writes the songs, infact all of them are co-written
by each other. andy also advertises erasure, unlike vince.

I won the new Erasure album this morning on Radio Forth, unfortunately
I don't have a turntable and don't think I will ever buy another, so
it's up for grabs at a mere 4 squid ... I'm not posting it!

For anyone interested the question I answered were:

    1. Apart from Erasure, Yazoo, and Depeche Mode what other group
dir Vince Clarke have a hit with?

    2. Which band does Andy Bell sing for? --- a real toughie!

    Well, who's bought Wild!?

I bought the CD last night and was quite surprised that it only lasts
38 mins, but on first hearing it sounds quite good. There are 11 tracks
on it including Drama!, Piano Song, Blue Savanna, Brother and Sister,
Star(?), and I think one called 2000 miles.

Has anyone else bought it yet....and if so, what do YOU think?

I went to see Erasure at the S.E.C.C. in Glasgow on 3rd December. The
concert was excellent. They sung 24 song (all of Wild! and a mixture
    of all their "old" hits).

Andy was as weird as ever, Vince (never-to-smile) was his usual cheery
self! The stage was a desert island (I think!) with massive plants
all around blowing out smoke. They were especially good singing
    Supernature and Drama!

    LONG LIVE ERASURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

218.29Our eyes are open, when it suits us to see.STAR::VILETTLetters to a friendFri Dec 22 1989 18:1355

Oh thank God thank God thank God...

I FINALLY found the topic where all the Erasure fans have been hiding.
After searching through all of RADIO_RADIO and NEW-WAVE I was pretty
sure there just wasn't one. But now I just noticed the "Oh L'amour"
title and said "nah, couldn't be".

I hope no one minds that I'm participating, just because I don't live
in England (sometimes wish I did, though)...I have been following
Erasure ever since I heard "Oh L'amour" one late night on a college
radio station in the summer of '86 and I thought "hey, that's a cool
song, who are these guys?" Little did I know, it was once again Vince
Clarke in action (at the time Depeche Mode and Yaz (sorry, I have to
call them "Yaz" because I'm from the U.S., something about a copyright
infringement with a country music label, I think) were a couple of my
favorite bands - still are, come to think of it) Anyway, went out the
next day and managed to find one copy of "Wonderland" hidden away in a
record store and bought it on a whim. After one listen I was completely
    hooked.

I bought "The Circus" the day it was released in the states. It is
still my favorite album of theirs, even though Oh L'amour is still my
all-time favorite song (that was such an incredible song, how come it
didn't make it very high up the charts?)...but Sometimes and Don't
Dance are ties for my second favorite. I then caught them on their 2nd
U.S. tour and was totally blown away. What a great show! Bell did
everything but set the stage on fire...it was there that I picked up a
flyer for the group "I Start Counting" who are available here only on
imports. Have any of you Brits seen/heard these guys? No one here has,
and I think they're great. But that's another topic.

Then came "The Two Ring Circus"...nice mixes, but I'd take the
originals any day. Then "The Innocents"...I liked it at first, but
pretty soon all the songs started sounding the same. Uh oh, I thought,
as all the singles from The Innocents started shooting up the charts, has
Erasure gone the way of so many of my other favorite groups? i.e.
reduced to boring poppy drivel by commercial success, although I will
agree with previous letters that Weight Of The World is a great song.
I did see that tour as well, though, and it was once again an excellent
show. Bell has a stage presence that is only rarely rivalled. So
I gave them the benefit of the doubt and later on my enthusiasm
returned with "The Hardest Part" and "She Won't be Home" on Crackers
    International. What excellent songs!

Now "Wild!" is out and Erasure is once again my favorite group. I think
someone may have pointed out to them a while back that their songs were
all starting to sound the same, because "Wild!" shows a very refreshing
diversity of styles; each song on the album stands out from the others
in its own way. Good stuff.

All for now. Nice to be aboard.

    Roland

I also went to see Erasure in Glasgow and I agree with Chris that they
were excellent. I was impressed by the stage set and the way Andy Bell
    strutted about provocatively!!!!!

I hear that Blue Savannah, from Wild! is going to be their next single,
    I really like that song.

The only thing that dissappointed me about the merchandise on sale at
the concert was that the Programme was not a programme, it was a song
book for Wild! which I already had as the CD insert. I didn't realise
this until I had paid my 4.00 and left the stall.

I lost the Erasure note, but now I'm back.

I better indroduce myself as Mattyb the vinyl junkie. I have all
    Erasure's 7" & 12" singles, including all but the first 3 limited
editions and `Crackers International' PT 2, plus a few German 12"s.
If anyone has the above record I would be glad to buy it.

    I think that some of the best Erasure tracks are the b-sides, such as;

    `She Won't Be Home'
    `Love Is Colder Than Death'
`When I Needed You' ------ Their best song, easily.
    `March On Down The Line'
`My Heart... So Blue' ------ This is also their best song.
`Don't Suppose' ------ This another best song.
    `Soldier's Return'
`In The Hall Of The Mountain King'
    `Supernature'

Plus I also think the following are perfect examples of what pop should
    be;

    `Phantom Bride'
    `Reunion'
    `Oh L'Amour' (Live)
    `My Heart So Blue' (Orchestral)
`Spiralling' (Orchestral) --- I could die to the end of this song
    `Brother And Sister'
    `Imagination'

    Well there you go!

If anyone wants a full discography, I will copy it in from Record
    Collector Magazine.

I think it will get to no. 3 in the charts. I bought the 12" of Blue
Savannah yesterday and it really is great. The beat is faster than on
the CD version, so it is more dance-ish. The B-side has 2 songs, but I
can't think of their names something like NO G.D.F!

Also, I think the sleeve is really nice. It is very simple, but

No Stop made No2. So did Sometimes. What bugged me about the Crackers

what Mute wanted. But I, and my friends, thought that She Won't Be

    Christmassy song.

218.42Blue Savannah - limited edition 3rd 12" remixSHAPES::BROWNMThis is MY decade!Mon Mar 26 1990 10:3816
The 3rd 12" of `Blue Savannah' is an interesting item indeed! Tracks
are `Blue Savannah' Der Deutsche Mix I & II. The ...II mix is on the
remix 12" anyway, but for those who haven't got it yet it's a hip hop
type of beat which works OK with the song. But the ...I mix is in
Kraftwerk `Tour De France' style. I love it!!!

The package is nice too. The outer sleeve is a large (ie. about
13"x13") white card sleeve with Erasure `Blue Savannah' hand stamped on
the front. Also there is a stamp saying `Limited edition of 10000
copies". The sleeve inside it just a blank white sleeve and the record
itself comes in a paper bag, as do the others. The record is one sided
and the label is just white with black on it, making it look like a
promo. Nice item. Value should treble within 5 months.

It would have peaked higher if it had been helped with a little
promotion. They're on tour in the states at pres. and I didn't see any
displays in the shops. But then again, No3 ain't bad.

I see Star is the next single to be released from Wild! Any comments on
    this.......

218.47This is what I think;IGETIT::BROWNMTechnoterribleFri May 18 1990 13:069
I think Star is OK, but I don't reckon it'll be as a big as Blue
Savannah. I just wish they'd release Brother And Sister - now that's
Top 3 material! The best thing about Erasure is their B-side, quality
AND quantity. I like the fact that the 12" of Star will probably come
with 2 new brilliant songs, both will be better than Star, and each
format will contain a different version.

I love Supernature, but my favourites are `When I Needed You'
(Melacholic Mix) and Don't Suppose (Country Joe Mix). I reckon I have
about 20 non LP Erasure b-side.

I picked up the Star remix 12". It contains an `Interstellar Mix' and
a `Soul Mix' of the title track, plus a `24 hour Technicolour Mix' of
Drealike State. The Soul Mix is different to say the least, and the
record is well worth buying on this merit, but the other mixes are
terrible. Dreamlike State isn't stuck in my head, like most other
Erasure b-sides end up, and is quite forgettable. But that first mix
of Star is terrible, just like the mixes on the ordinary 12".

That's my opinion, but the cover is nice, and it is limited edition.

Doesn't anybody like the song "La Gloria" from the "Wild !" album.
   Definitely one of the best.

It's a complete p*ss-take of a flamenco style song and in concert,
Andy will dress up a la flamenco etc. Excellent fun.

Is anyone out there going to the Wild party in 2 weeks time at the
Milton Keynes Bowl? It should be a good show. I've heard Adamski are
one of the 3 support bands plus it is being broadcast live on Radio 1.

Is the Bowl a good venue for such a concert? I went to see Madonna
at Wembley and the sound system there was amazing, so I hope the
Bowl is just as good or I'll be megga disappointed 8-()

    	Chris.

P.S. Yes, I like La Gloria - sorry Matty!!

I'm not going to the Milton Keynes do, so if any of you go could you
listen out any new songs they might do, and maybe give us a review of
    the gig?

I heard on the radio this morning that the next Erasure album is only
going to be cover versions of ABBA songs. Is this true or is it just a
    wind up??

Going on Erasure's past it could be true! I think it's actually a good
idea, though `Gimme Gimme' OTT = Over The Top!

Well nobody's replied here in a while so it's time to set the ball
    rolling again.
Has anyone bought the Chorus L.P. yet ? It came out yesterday. It
should debut at no.1 like the last two l.ps as they're on a roll at the
moment even by their standards. If it's as good as the two singles then
it should be a right cracker. Still where can they go from here?
     Reactions please,
             Niall

p.s. Could the person who posted the sales figures for the first three
l.ps please post an update . It's been a while and I'd like to see the
    figures for Wild!.

I'm looking for the words of "wonderland".
I think that they haven't been included to the lp.
Is there something like a songbook available, maybe for keyboards?

218.62A little request!!!FILTON::PONTER_JThu Aug 12 1993 14:5013
Hi there, its been a while since anyones replyed and I wondered if
anyone one out there could copy some of the tracks from note .31, these
are the ones I have never heard: Love is colder than death, March on
down the line, Don't suppose, Soldiers return and In the hall of the
mountain king. I would be very grateful as I have followed Erasure
since Sometimes was released, but never really had the chance to get
    hold of all their stuff.

    Cheers.

    John

Well the noter in .31 left a couple of years ago (2 years ago last Monday
to be precise. Anybody know what happened to him? Last reference to him
that I can find in this conference is 611.1300) so he is unlikely to be
able to help you. As for copying the stuff, you'd probably be best
taking this up off-line if you get any offers.
