Myself I hate the Dead, Eagles (Dead Eagles - now theres a concept)
and love the Talking Heads and the Ramones, who BTW toured together
in 1977 before either band was famous - what a bill!!!!
But its only an opinion - my *fave* US band is probably the Doors

but that doesnt necessarily make them the *best*
Eagles, huh!

The Dead certainly have been going a long time, and have probably
more lives sides of music (official, that is) available than anyone
else - probably about 4 or 5 live albums (mostly doubles, and one
triple!!!!). Also, a lot of people don't really know what they
sound like, or have some vague idea about them being psychedlic
or something. They've actually been quite akin to country-ish stuff

| I am hearing that the Eagles are better than The Ramones? Good
Heavens! Well, with the Eagles I guess it's a matter of a pinion
(uughhhhhhhh...sorry 'bout the pun).
The Ramones are so basic, so primal that they've resisted the worst
of temptations (such as being produced by Phil Spector) to pretty
much keep plugging away at what they love, and clebrating "Rock
and Roll's Three Greatest Chords".
In all seriousness, I think I would enjoy the Dead a lot more if
it weren't for their totally DEADicated coterie of hippies and
flower-children that seem to follow them everywhere. Yes I *know*
that there are intelligent, non-worshipful Grateful Dead fans out
there, bless you all. But, there are a *lot* of deadheads who are
slavering, worshipful, uncritical and slightly loopy. I have no
problem with their music.
Actually, I've heard that deadheads in the U.S. are similar to Hawkwind
fans in the U.K. Anyone care to elaborate on that?

well, to find out what they sound like, I listened to all 6 sides
of their live 3 lp set, one after the other, also I have heard things
like Dark Star, which was OK (just about) but most of their stuff
is pretty lame really. Ithink a lot of their early reputation stems
as much from their use of hallucinogenics as from their music.
re .? > GARCIA FOR GOD
how can you lay that on him or anyone else for that matter - hes
only a guy playing a gee-tar after all; hes no more or less god
like than any of the rest of us
re .28 > Little Feat are still the bestest band in the universe
Granted they play well and tastefully as a band but they just bore
me - the same could be said for Steely Dan
I stand by my original choices (Velvets and Doors) partly because
I love their music but also because of their influence and originality
- far more than any of the other bands mentioned so far (possible
exception Steely Dan - noticed how many bands now are citing them
as an influence?)
Another US band who make it for me are Television/Tom Verlaine -
Marquee moon is a real landmark lp for guitar based music

There are groups around today who steal ideas from Led Zeppelin

Yasss, the Ramones derived their stylings and even their name from
British sources. The story goes that 'The Ramones' was to have
been the name of the anonymous touring band that the Beatles were
going to put together and Joey and co. used it instead. As for
their British sound, well let's call it a mutual admiration society.
The Sex Pistola admired them, they admired the British punk acts.
It was all pretty homey, all things considered.

I disagree. The Ramone brought their brand of guitar grunge over to
Britain during the tour for their first album, and people like Lydon
and Strummer got influenced from them. Remember, before that year
the Pistols (without Sid and under a different name) were doing stuff
that was much less frenetic and loud...
As for the Pork Dukes... The story we hear over here is that sometime
during 1977, the trad-rock band Steeleye Span (Maddy 4-evah!) was in a
bit of a recess and two of the members, Rick Kemp and Nigel Pegrum,
formed the Dukes.. either to keep busy or just to have fun. Did they
ever play live? Are there other singles, other than the three Dan and
I have seen? They are:
"Making Bacon" / "Tight Pussy"
"Telephone Masturbator" / "Melody Makers"
"Bend and Flush" / "Throbbing Gristle"

This is quite an interesting comment ... when Bowie went off the

1974, Queen started their road to success.
Whenever major bands take a vacation, there will always be "imitators"

continues to rile me that *many* people fail to acknowledge the
fact that the guy has a damned good voice! OK, OK - for a while
there he was well and truly caught up in the SAW stable, and the
songs on his debut album are a bit samey, but having heard his new
self-penned single ("She Wants To Dance With Me") - which I believe
is not SAW-produced - he has recognised that the fickle record-buying
public get tired of a 'sound' after a while, and so he's changed
his style (albeit not exactly in dramatic fashion) whilst maintaining
his thoroughly modern and emminently danceable sound.
Besides, I think that most people dislike him because he *looks*
such a pr*t in most of his videos (yeah, and on his odd live appearance
too!).

What i mean about the Pistols is that they showed that you
didn't have to be musically competant (sp?), although Jonesy was
pretty handy with a guitar, to make good music and sell records
which meant that the record companies started taking notice of
bands that they wouldn't have bothered with before the Pistols.
Thus opening up the Music industry and discovering some brilliant bands.

| OI!, .115 - You leave the monkees out of this ok?????????
(Anyway, not only were they musically incompetent, they didnt even
play on their records, did they? Then again the BCR didnt either.)
I think the one thing the Sex Pistols and those other early punk
bands *did* achieve was the d-i-y spirit - you didnt *need* the
music industry to get your record in the shops, and thats still
around today, good job too, but its still got little to do with
the 'industry' in terms of CBS, EMI, MCA, Virgin etc. - they dont
need it.
And thats what the 'industry' is all about - selling music
as cans of beans or shoes or toothpaste - its got bugger all to
do with music any more, its all image. The sex pistols just got
in there, did a bit of thieving and got out quick. Thats hardly
contributing to the music industry.
Anyway, we didnt need big record companies to tell us how good
were bands like the Clash, Damned, Buzzcocks, Wire, Jam, Fall and
loads of others, did we - we knew they were out there, and went
to *see* them in their natural state, *live on stage*, before they
ever got signed up

it not to get conned or something like. They all seem to make music
that they have a genuine love for, and creativity seems to take
precedence over the big buck (even tho la Gabe must be worth a bit!)

| I agree with your list (I would add Kate Bush as well) but its
interesting to note that those guys still have an image - especially
Costello. Somehow they manage to not let that get in the way of
their music. I suppose I was being a bit flippant before 8^) but
it certainly has been the case for a loooong time that completely
talentless morons have been able to 'make it' in the music biz with
just an image and scant musical ability. These types don't seem
to last very long, thankfully.
As an extra comment I feel the current technology available in the
music world makes the situation worse. In the 60's and 70's if you
went to see a live band in a pub then they WERE live - out of tune
guitars and all. This helped weed out many of the barely able before
they got too far. Nowadays the typical live pub gig will be 2 prats
with a Casio do-it-all keyboard and lots of stuff they've put together
at home using step-time programming.

Then again, i'm not anti-tech, nor necessarily pro technique either.
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush use technology really creatively,
Coltrane, Monk and Parker undeniably had amazing technique, but
I also love the Buzzcocks and the Ramones - I think it all comes
down to some sort of sincerity in the music, i.e. if an insincere
posing prat like (plucks name out of the air) say, Freddie Mercury
makes music, then no matter how good or bad he is technically, the
music will be insincere posing pratstuff - the music *must* reflect
the personality of its creator.
Pretty deep huh?

| Trouble is that the new technology gives virtually anyone the ability
to make a top-40 like noise whether they're sincere about it or
not. If they had to sit down and *learn* their instruments even
to a modest level then the true artists who had something to say
would stick at it, the rest would go back to the wine bar or wherever
they came from in the first place.
PS That brings me to another of my pet hates - people who make a
name doing something else and then make a 'hit record' (notice how
those terms are always used before the record's released - how can
it be a hit if nobody's heard it yet?). Examples include:

Kevin Keegan
Wicksy/Sharony/Whoever the other one wasy from East Enders
Kylie Whatsername from Neighbours

| Slight disagreement here, Tony
To me, the importance of learning your instrument is debateable
(some of those old blues guys had very limited ability, but loads
of feel, emotion, whatever)
What I think is most important is being yourself through the music,
rather than trying to sound like somebody else.

168.124 | I think we *basically* agree, Bob.... | KERNEL::IMBIERSKI | Three views of a secret | Thu Sep 15 1988 18:35 | 30 |
| This is an age old debate. The way I feel is this:
Technical ability without ideas/feel is not enough.
Ideas and feel won't get put over very well without a certain
level of ability. The more complex the ideas (usually) the more
ability is required.
This becomes frustrating for the artist more than anything else
- its terrible trying to express yourself musically when you can't
string two notes together.
What I was really on about before was people who have neither ideas
nor feel nor ability either. In the past such people had no access
to the music world.. Nowadays they can purchase the technology to make a
'modern' sound and the vast unwashed don't know the difference.
They concentrate more on the clothes/image/fashion (which is what
started this little discussion 8^)). Take house music for example.
You can emulate any house record with a good sampler and drum machine
- in fact I reckon you could teach someone to make a house single
quicker than you could teach them to use notes 8^).
Don't get me wrong I'm not anti-technology or elitist or anything.
Technology in the right hands, as you pointed out, is an exciting
prospect. I just feel that somewhere along the line the idea of
making music has got lost.

| Can I use this note to state how utterly p***ed off I'm getting
at advertisers use of our vast and beatiful heritage of pop/rock
songs to peddle their goods or services.
The latest offender is the use of Bowie's "Changes" on the Hanson
Trust ad - OK, its not *really* Bowie, but its sure meant to *sound*
like him, and that seems like just another part of the con to me.
What I'm trying to say is that songs like this were written with
some sort of feeling, and with more than a "this is a piece of product,
give us all your money" mentality, and to use them in order to
manipulate the consciousness into buying certain products, or into
accepting the undeniable rightness of "a company from over here
thats doing rather well over there" (leaving aside any mention of
exploitation, company acquisition and subsequent asset stripping,
resultant unemployment, imperialism,insider dealing, etc)delivered
in that smug voice that 'graces' all the financial service ads,
*degrades* the meaning of the song, even if that meaning was only
"hey, lets party", and also distorts the songs place in its original
historical context.(does this qualify for pseuds corner?)
Why are these people doing this to *our* music, let them write their
own music to sell their products (after all, advertising is arguably
only "convincing us to buy what we don't really need")
Any comments?

| I agree entirely with your comments. All those good songs that are now
indelibly associated with jeans, lager and corporate boasting. Let us
not forget the inevitable re-release of the songs in question, often
with cover versions - you've seen the ad, now buy the single. It just
shows that the ad industry can't come up with its own good tunes.
However those songs aren't ours except in a spiritual and emotional
sense. The ones to blame are those who own the publishing rights and
succumb to the money being offered. I just hope that the writers and
performers of the originals are making a buck out of it too.

lots of big names to actually perform in commercials for them. Steve
Winwood's 'You Know What the Night Can Do' and Eric Clapton's 'After
Midnight' are the two most recent songs/artists to fall prey to the
Almighty Dollar. Then there's Michael Jackson's lucrative relationship
with Pepsi, and the (mis)use of The Beatles 'Revolution' in a TV

to take Nike to court.

good tunes (the last reasonable one I can remember was the Chas
and Dave "Courage Best" song), but I actually like it when it results
in the re-release of some really good old songs. Wasn't Nina Simone's
"My Baby just cares for me" used for an advert, and (dare I say
it) Doris Day's "Move over Darling"? (By now you're all thinking
I must be approaching retirement!)
With the advert using "Changes" I think it's really the ad itself
I dislike, not the use of the song. Anyway, thinking of some recent
examples of songs written especially for ads (remember "You do the
Shake and Vac" -- Ugh!) I think the use of good songs is infinitely
preferable!

| Bob, its a question, as David said, of what's recognized and
accepted by the group yielding the most buying power (for Nike's
products). In this country, as I imagine in the UK, it's the
'Baby-boomers'. The commercial that featured 'Revolution', as
I remember, was done in black 'n white, and flashed scenes of
yuppie types in both business dress wearing Nike athletic
shoes and in athletic clothing (sweats, gym shorts, track suits,
etc.) all by Nike.
There was such an uproar over Nike using the song, that even after
the commercial was pulled off the air, the resultant publicity would
still have made them millions.

I've heard that too, but I cant say I've ever found the message
Manson claims to have heard - however, it *does* make the heavier
stuff on the lp, particularly Helter Skelter, very uncomfortable
listening....... They do sound very 'out of it', I think.
Incidentally, a song on John Cale's Helen of Troy lp called Leaving
it up to you was removed from later editions, apparently because
of some of the lyrics - lines like "and we could all feel safe
like Sharon Tate" - were felt to be unacceptable. This song, to anyone
who hasnt heard it, is pretty heavy stuff, very paranoid, evoking
similar feelings to Helter Skelter....

I'm gonna use this note to mention last weekends Night Network,
a programme soon to be removed from our screens (they always stop
showing the ones I like....)
Anyway, for those of you who have caught any of this show, on Saturday
nights show they have a section called the Video View where they
get a couple of 'celebs' to comment on a batch of new videos.
Anyway, last weekend they had Julia Fordham and Blackie Lawless
(WASP fame). What a combination. Julia being your thoroughly modern
'hey whats wrong with gay people' and all that sort of jive, and
Blackie the complete opposite, the thoroughly macho 'hey my life
revolves round chicks man...'
The first video 'Mojo Nixon - Elvis is Everywhere' (a brilliant
song) started things off but they then played Jean Paul Gaultier,
the fashion mannie who wants to make a few more bucks by releasing
a shittie song accompanied by a video showing what a wonderful ???
thing fashion is (eugh). Blackie comment after this one"
"Shit man, homosexuals are taking over the world."
Miss Fordham then got extremely upset and asked him to justify what
he said. I am surprised blood wasn't shed.
this vein continued throughout with both of them having completely
different views on every video.
Proclaimers:
Blackie "There is no justice in this world. the Revenge of the
Nerds pick up a guitar and make millions"
Julia " well I quite like the Proclaimers....."
....and so it went on.
It will be a sad day when they end the video view.
cheers
Tommy
P.s. do try and listen to the Mojo Nixon song if you can. you wont
regret it....

| Dougie, hi! If you're still having trouble getting into that Tom
Waits stuff, but don't want to give up entirely, try some of his

of a jazz/blues type of thing, based around piano and string bass,
and Tom's vocal style is a little more accessible.

168.205 | Early Tom | WELMTS::GREENB | WELMTS R.I.P. (Rest In Pieces) | Fri Jun 16 1989 11:23 | 18 |
| Dave, if you like Closing Time, try The Heart of Saturday Night,
which is in a similar vein, but slightly jazzier and bluesier.
Alternatively, The Asylum Years compilation is a good introduction,
with tracks from his first four or five albums. There is also a
live double, Nighthawks at the diner, which is Tom scatting and
rapping over a jazz quartet - apart from one or two tracks, it's
not very melodic, but I love it nonetheless. His other early lp's
in the vein you like are Blue Valentine and Bounced Checks; the
slightly later Heartattack and Vine shows, in retrospect, a movement
towards the style of Swordfishtrombones and Rain Dogs, but at the
same time is not a very radical departure from the earlier albums;
the vocals are a little gruffer here and there, and some of the
songs feature a heavily distorted bluesy guitar as the main instrument,
rather than the acoustic piano.
As you can probably tell, I'm definitely a fan!
Bob
|
168.206 | I'm hanging in there.... | AYOV28::DROBB | Lost in the prisons of religion | Fri Jun 16 1989 12:06 | 15 |
| Bob, I must confess that I'm *still* trying to get into the RAINDOGS
and SWORDFISHTROMBONES - I think it's his brash, course vocal style
that I find rather difficult to adjust to, and some of the instrumentation
is odd to say the least.
However, I will persevere, and I'm more than willing to try some
of the earlier, less cluttered stuff. THE ASYLUM YEARS sounds interesting -
am I right in saying that it's a double album? If so, do you happen
to know if it's available on CD (single or double)?
BTW, I saw a guy in town last week-end with a superb Tom Waits T-shirt
on - black shirt with a drunken Tom kind lurching against a vehicle
of some kind. Neat.
Still listening to the Bowie tapes? 8-)

I know this is old news, but I couldn't get in till now- sorry!
Last Monday (7/31) at 8am tickets went on sale for one show that
the Stones would be doing in Sullivan Stadium (where the New England
Patriots play) in Foxboro MA on Oct 1.
That show sold out in 1 hr, 46 minutes. A second show was added and
it sold out in 1 hr, 53 minutes. A third show was added and it sold
out in 3 hrs, 41 minutes.
In all, 165,000 tickets were sold. (Fans could purchase a max. of six
tickets each.) There were 52 locations to purchase tickets and 60
telephone operators for phone bookings.
The sale broke records for selling out an unprecedented 3 shows in 1
day at Sullivan, beating the Who's two shows in a day a couple of months
ago. Also, Sullivan was the first location on the tour to sell out all
its shows in one day.
Mommy's bad dream? ...I would think with the money they'll make on
this tour that Mommy would be glad to have a Bill Wyman in the
family... oh, yeah, he's already taken.

This didn't warrent a topic of it's own so I thought I'd stick it here.
Last week saw myself and there friends participate in the first round of a pop
quiz, run in a local pub, sponsored by McEwans. We only entered our names (or
rather mine as I was the most drunk) as we were slightly tipsy at the time.
Anyway, as I was saying, the first round was last week and what do you think we
went and done? Yep, semi-final here we come!!!! My jubilation was short lived
however. Having earlier been of the mind that Roy Harper was playing the Queens
Hall in Edinburgh on the Tuesday night I was soon to find out that he was
playing Monday (tonight) instead. So do I abandon the team and go see a guy who
I have been dying to see for years but have been ALWAYS been in the wrong place
at the wrong time. This time I am actually here when he is playing but I
really can't let them down (not that I'm much good to them anyway apart from
being someone to blame when we get beat).
What I would like to ask from you lot is does anybody know of any other Roy
Harper dates anywhere in the country. I did mean to place this here last week
after we'd won but I got so excited looking forward to tonights semi's (and the
final if we make ie I may add) that I forgot.
If you don't here from me tomorrow you can guess at a win for us.
Seeya tomorrow

| Anybody heard of Ivor Cutler? No? Thought not.
Small Scottish man, plays the harmonium, about a hundred years old. He has
about 6 or 7 albums to his name.
Not specifically a musician, mainly a poet, but he does some hilarious toons
with titles like `I believe in Bugs', `A doughtnut in my hand' and `Bicarbonate
of Chicken'. Plays a mean harmonium!
He's doing a series of shows on Radio 3 over the coming weeks. The shows go
out at 9:30 on Thursday evenings. Some of it's old stuff, some new, but it
gives you an idea of the man's material.
It would be nice if there we're enough fans of his out there to start an Ivor
Cutler fan club note in this conference. It would make a nice change from the
sudden indie fever in this conference!

The two lps of Wyatt's which I have are "Rock Bottom" and "Ruth is

One excellent track, an instrumental called "Sonia".
Last I heard of Wyatt he had retired from the music biz due to
"disillusionment". One ridicolous request he had to put up with was the
"Top of The Pops" floor manager asking him to put a blanket over his
legs while he sat in his wheelchair (for the "Shipbuilding" song).
Apparently the TOTP man reckoned `the kids' would find it `distasteful'
seeing a disabled man on their (Heart-of-Brightness) programme.

veggie that he is.

And an interview with the great Cramps, `Poison' Ivy Rorshack, Lux
Interior and the others. Great names too and good to see them back.
A new album is out soon. It is "Stay Sick".
Still no news on leftie Paul Weller who began the '80s adulated to
extremes by music hacks and ended the decade being gutted for writing
sub-standard `Round Midnight bar-room torch songs'. Never trust a hack.
Nevertheless Mr. Weller must have put aside a sizeable amount of money

Hi Tim, thanks for your reply; I don't belong to the local tourist
bureau but I think the Lyons-Grenoble area is a very nice place to
live in ( unfortunately I only spend my weekends there. )
Here's a quick summary of the situation : as I can remember, there
were in 1983 only 3 major venues in Lyons, Palais des Sports, Halle
Tony Garnier and Westside. All three have closed now, Palais des
Sports is now used for what it was designed for (sports), Halle Tony
Garnier went bankrupt, and Westside were forced to close down after
one of their security men followed Robert Smith to the letter
(Killing an Arab).
In 1985-87 Lyons had become a sort of musical desert, especially when
alternative FM station Radio Bellevue went off the air. The only decent
place then was ENTPE (an engineer school) in Vaulx-en-Velin.
Since 1987, two new locations have emerged, Le Transbordeur in
Villeurbanne and Le Truck in Vnissieux. But the problem is, many
groups (especially the ones which are not in the charts), when coming
to France, just do one gig in Paris (a problem caused by the Lyons
concert organizers who don't want to take risks). In fact, few ones
actually tour the country, and when they do, they don't always give
their best. I remember last year's New Order concert at Transbordeur,
which was very disappointing ( Singer Bernard Albrecht had abused on
Beaujolais and his mates had obviously helped him emptying the
bottles).
There are also some good record shops like FNAC (nationwide chainstore)
or Attitude and Boul'dingue (specialized ones) but this is nothing
compared to Paris (for a vinyl freak such as I) with Danceteria, New
Rose, Bondage and of course Fnac Montparnasse and Virgin Megastore.
In the first two ones you can get nearly everything you are looking
for (indies from UK, US, Scandinavia, Chad, etc...)
So it's definitely not bad being here in Paris...
Christophe.
PS : don't hesitate to contact me for more info.

| Who sang that song 'Is this Love?'. I think it was by that guy from
one of the heavy metal bands but I can't for the life of me remember
his name (David Lee Roth??) and what group does he play with (if yuo
will excuse the expression).
Also, which supergroups did Daryl Hall and John Oates come from before
they merged together??
This questions aren't a quiz. They have just been bugging me for a
while and I'll go mad if I don't find out.

I think the singer in it was Suggs out of Madness. In the credits,
it gave the name as Graham McPherson, I think.
does anyone know what Suggs's real name is? Was it him or was I

Earcom 3 (Fast records) as one half of the "Stupid Babies", along with

P.S. Matty, did you know that Adamski originally wrote "Killer" when
playing with his Yamaha PSS780 portable.

Well, 1980 was a year when everybody made a record, the weirder the
better. And John Peel played them all. The Stupid Babies record must
have been the cheapest ever to produce.
There are two tracks, both recorded, in mono, on a portable tape
recorder in Adamski's mums dining room. I think Adamski's brother did
the vocals, while he played on his toy guitar. The lyric's go something
like..
Babysitters Babysitters...
Babysitters Babysitters...
Babysitters Babysitters...
Babysitters Babysitters...
WE HATE BABYSITTERS!!!
The other track is similar, but just cry-baby sounds instead of words.

| You were all talking French in 611, so I came here instead;
Forthcoming releases includ a single from the Film Days Of Thunder by
Marie `Godess' McKee. It's an absolute stomer too. No1, maybe.
Also 808 State have a new LP due out this month, Pet Shop Boys in
October, plus Madonna has a greatest hits LP also due that month (no
doubt it'll have all 25 hits on it, and it'll be called Part 1!!!).
S-Express and 808 State/MC Tunes have new singles in the shops right
now.
Records I obtained at the weekend;
these were from my sister at a cost of nowt, so I don't want anybody to
think that I actually `like' all these records;
Iron Maiden - The Clairvoyant 7"
Def Leopard - Armageddon It 7"
Sam Fox - Touch Me 7" (2nd Copy)
Paul Young - Love Of The Common People 7"
Boy Meets Girl - Waiting For A Star To Fall 7"
Break Machine - Street Dance 7" (Yeah!!!)
Kool And The Gang - Joanna 7" (Uggh)
Whitmey Houston - One Moment In Time (Aggghhhhhhh!!!) 7"
Disco Tex & Sexolettes Get Dancin' 7" (Disco alert!!)
Bangles - Manic Monday 7" (Classic)
Falco - Vienna Calling 7"
Five Star - Can't Wait Another Minute 7"
Kajagoogoo - Lion's Mouth 7" (Haircut alert)
Harold Faltermeyer - Axel F 7" (classic, but I don't like it)
Heart - There's The Girl 7"
I bought these while I was completely sober;
The Farm - Groovy Train cassingle
Primal Scream - Come Together remix 12"
The High - Up And Down 12"
These were in 2 packs of 5, ie 5 12" for a quid (from EGS in Wakefield
BTW)
The Orb - Orb Factor 6 12"promo (underground man)
Tom Jones - Move Closer 12" (you don't have to be rich)
Edwin Starr - Missiles (naff)
Ruby Turner - It's Gonna Be Alright 12" (Soul alert)
David Grant - Keep It Together 12" (more soul alert)
Technotronic - Get Up/Pump Up The Jam remix 12" (same
record with different name alert)
Technotronic - This Beat Is Technotronic 12"
101 (who?) - Just As Long As I Goy You 12" (naff)
Cappella - Push The Beat 12" (This is great 'cause
it's ripped off Pump Up The Volume,
so they're great for mixing together)
Marina Van Rooy (que?) Sly One 12" (naff)
Skinny Boys - Set The Pace/Stylin' 12" (naff Rap)
29 records for about 12 quid!

song for her, you can see why. You can imagine the writer thinking
`Smamfa, Smamfa, ohhhh Smamfa'. It's obvious that `Touch Me' was
written by a writer flooded with passion for his idol, his mentor, his

I heard in a song in Our Price on the speaker as I was wandering around

It was a male singer, sort of slow and the main line seemed to be
"I don't want to fall in love"

up the album.
"Dr.West's Medicine Show and Junk Band" is the name of the group.
Norman Greenbaum (who wrote all 10 songs), Bonnie Wallach, Evan

(Temporary) Dylan note:
The Bootleg collection has some gems on it. One is an old version of
`Tangled Up In Blue'. This originally appeared on 1975's `Blood On The
Tracks'. It's more bittersweet fallout from the breakup with ex-chum
Sarah. Well worth a listen. Most of the `Blood' album was about their
breakup. At the time music journos were heard to say "If he can get get
this out of a separation - imagine what he'll get out of a real
D-I-V-O-R-C-E!
The next album was `Desire' and was completely different (although it
did have a song called `Sarah').
