Boozy Blues - Great!!!
I was in there last night - the whole pub was singing.
There is an excellent guitarist/singer who plays on his own every
thursday and he has an accomplice who he plays with every sunday.
well worth a visit - Sundays are best.

34.2 | The Royal, Worplesdon Rd, Guildford | FORTY2::ETHERIDGE | You are the man with no name? | Fri May 13 1988 15:17 | 8 |
| Has anyone been to 'The Royal' in Guildford lately? Who have you
seen? I went down a couple of times a few years back and saw
IQ (prog rock outfit-where are they now?) on one occasion and the
excellent Cardiacs whose show was superb.
Anyone been there? Who plays it these days?

| I saw Bernie Torme there a year or two ago, and I think
Dumpy's Rusty Nuts as well, but what a pit the place is!
As far as I know there's still music on there at least
once a week. Ever been to "Scratcher's" (The Three Lions
Farncombe)? Much better.

re.royal in guildford.
I have seen dumpy ,bernie torme, jackie lynton with ritchie
blackmore, peter green at the royal.as before thsi was at least two
years ago.I passed the royal on saturday 7-5-88,and there was no
signs up indicating bands.it looks like the bar has been done-up
so I can only assume that bands no longer play there.

34.6 | How to find "Scratchers" | RDGE22::QUICK | I drink therefore I am | Mon May 16 1988 17:31 | 17 |
| Take the Godalming road from Guildford (A3100),
follow the road for a while, on the way
you will pass Broadwater lake, a Rugby club,
and Guildford crematorium (not necessarily in
that order) and Scratchers is on the right
after about 5 miles just before Godalming.
It's real name is The Three Lions, and it is
officially in Farncombe rather than Godalming.
There's usually a silver RS Cosworth parked
outside which belongs to the Landlord, who is
obviously making far too much money...
Well worth a visit.

Dave - what you do is get a guide called "Catalyst" (50p). This lists
all events in and around Reading (so as you can imagine it's quite
small -;) I'm sure you'll have more joy if you travel the 40 miles to
London.

However, the town is now admirably served by another free publication
that covers events on a fortnightly basis. 'I love U' is available from
all good record shops, music shops, etc., and is FREE and OK.

34.18 | Wilko meets the Phoenix | RIVAGE::GATES | | Wed Oct 02 1991 12:03 | 9 |
| Not quite Reading but....
Wilko Johnson (ex Dr. Feelgood guitarist) is playing the Phoenix Plaza
in Wokingham on Thursday 3rd October. I doubt that he has anything new
to play but he's good for an evening's entertainment. He does a lot of
the old Dr. Feelgood stuff that he wrote (including the famous penguin
walk!) and also some more recent tunes.

If you fancy an evening of live music in a good pub atmosphere, then you could do
worse than drop into the Black Lion in Woodcote on Sunday May 10th.
Pillarbox Blue will be playing there last gig there (before the name is changed).
The music varies from The Monkees to Hendrix, B.B. King to Clapton + some of our
own material.
The line-up includes two DECies:
Myself on Bass - This is my first public performance with the band
Dean Furlong on Drums - He works at Winnersh.
Plus Steve on Guitar & Vocals ( + piano )
Sean on Keyboards & Saxophone.
We'll be on from 8 ish
See you there

a bit weird! I think they're better off with a different guitarist, since
Blackmore, although good, is such an unreliable and stroppy bastard.

| Not Geneva (that was Rod) - Zurich - even farther away. But you know, I was in
Reading for 16 years (gulp) and still feel a certain something (what could
that be?) for the place.
I never forgave Rank for turning the 'dance-hall' into a bingo place. Reading
needs something like that in the centre to attract names, and also something
like Cartoons where locals can play - the Granby can't do it all.

live music, though the beer was pretty naff and it looked like a dump
inside. Saw a number of "where are they now" bands there; Twelfth
Night, Haze, Pendragon, Terraplane(sp?).
Then there was always the Upper Deck, down by the canal. I used to be
trown out of there on a regular basis for dancing on the tables.
