18.2KIDS INC.GENRAL::MARZULLAMon Feb 27 1989 15:2513
Has anyone seen Kids Inc. (Kids Incorporated)? My 3 1/2 yr. old
is addicted to this show - she gets out her dresses and "microphone"
and pretends that she is one of the singers and goes crazy. Anyway,
the "kids" who do the singing - I believe that they are the actual
singers of the songs, meaning they prerecorded the songs in a studio
and are just "mouthing" the songs for the actual taping of the show.
My husband says "no way" - no 12-15 yr. old (by looks) can sing
that well. I disagree - there are alot of talented kids out there
and yes, they can dance too! Anyway, anyone care to settle this
argument? I am also wondering where it is taped, etc.

I've had the Disney Channel for 3 1/2 yrs and think it is great.
My kids love Pooh Corner, Dumbo's Circus and The Raccons. My oldest
daughter (5 1/2) is looking foward to the new version of The Mickey
Mouse Club. I'm looking foward to the premeir of Chip 'n Dale's
    Rescue Rangers this saturday.

I like the fact that they have started showing classic movies for
adults. It really makes it "the family channel"

We had the Disney Channel when we lived in Chelmsford, but when
we moved to Wilmington, I found out that the cable company didn't
carry it. My son (who was 2 at the time) went through withdrawal
(sp?). Okay, I admit it, I did too.

Wilmington now has a new cable company and we have the Disney Channel
    back again.  My son starts out his day with Good Morning, Mickey;
Welcome to Pooh Corner (I'm a big Tigger fan) and if we are running
late for school/work Donald Duck Presents. Saturday mornings around
    here are spent watching Disney.

I could go on forever about how much my family enjoys the Disney
Channel, but I think I'll go watch it instead. :-)

My picture has been shown on the Disney Channel. Now I just
have to get the tape from my friend who saw it.

I have this really crazy friend, Patty, who thru a birthday
party for Mickey Mouse last November. (Gifts were not requested.)
During the evening, a group picture was taken. You know the
kind where the camera is mounted on a tripod, set the timer, and
run to get in the picture.

Patty sent the picture to the Disney Channel and has been watching
religious every Saturday and Sunday night at 7:30 when the pictures
are shown. Last Sunday she called me. It took several minutes
to figure out what she was so excited about. The group shot actually
    made it to tv.

Just an FYI - I believe its this Saturday night 6/10 that the
making of "Honey I shrunk the kids" is on. This is the new
Disney movie being released this summer. It looks a riot.

We saw some previews of this in the MGM Studio tour last month.
They base some of the special effects stuff you see on this film.
It does look like it will be a lot of fun.

18.9Disney got us!AKOV12::PIMENTELTue Feb 27 1990 12:1013
We enjoyed the DC so much during the free viewing that we did
    re-subscribe to it.

It was my 12 year old daughter who actually did the begging to
re-subscribe. My 3 year old son enjoys it just as much. The reason
that we cancelled in the first place is that I found we were not
watching it. The programs that they carried during the week in the
evening we not interesting enough for us to watch between 5:00 and 8:00
p.m. Hoping to get our "money's worth" this time.

Looks like they have done some reformating.

What does the Disney channel cost? Is it sold as part of a larger
"package". They are stringing cable in our town now but, we're not
really interested in getting it other that for the DC.

Doug
18.12Price Varies by LocationINDMKT::GOLDBERGLen, Back From the WorldTue Feb 27 1990 15:2811
On the cable system in our town (Framingham, MA) TDC is $9.95 per month
in addition to the charge for Basic cable service. This is the
standard charge for each of the premium channels available such as HBO,
Cinemax, etc. I believe about $10 is the average for premium channels,
but it does vary from cable system to cable system.

Your local cable company can give you complete details, as well as
information on what packages are available. Why don't you give them a
call. Or if they are like most cable companies, once they are able to
serve your neighborhood, they will give YOU a call. They often offer
discounts or free installation or other deals on newly built systems.
18.14Disneyland's 35th Anniversary programmingCLOSET::AAARGH::LOWELLGrim Grinning Ghosts...Tue Jun 19 1990 13:0332
From the July/August "The Disney Channel Magazine":

    DISNEYLAND SPECTACULAR
July 17 marks the 35th anniversary of the opening of "The
Happiest Place on Earth," and The Disney Channel takes part
in the celebration. During the day, The Channel presents
specials that chronicle the development of Disneyland, from
1955 to today, with programs ranging from 1955's "Dateline
Disneyland" to "Disneyland's 35th Anniversary Special" hosted
by Tony Danza. There's also a great lineup of Disney films,
and in the evening we'll be bringing you up to date with
    festivities in the Park.

The listing for Tuesday, July 17 is as follows (all times
    specified as Eastern/Pacific):
    	 9:00 MOVIE Dateline Disneyland (1:30)
10:30 MOVIE Snow White Live (1:30)
12:00 SPECIAL From the Pirates of the Caribbean to the
    	       World of Tomorrow
    	 1:00 SPECIAL Disneyland Showtime
2:00 MOVIE That Darn Cat! (1:55)

18.15Backstage/Making of showsCLOSET::AAARGH::LOWELLGrim Grinning Ghosts...Tue Jun 19 1990 13:1625
I subscribed to the Disney Channel for two reasons:
    	1. To see any "The Making of..." shows
    	2. To see any theme park related shows (backstage stuff,
    	    previews, etc.)

So, I was absolutely thrilled to see the July/August issue of
"The Disney Channel Magazine". According to this issue, they'll
    be showing:
Fantasia: The Creation of a Disney Classic
The Making of Honey, I Shrunk The Kids
The Making of The Jungle Book
Dick Tracy: Behind the Badge - Behind the Scenes
Backstage Disney: The Main Street Electrical Parade
    	Dateline Disneyland
    	Disneyland's 35th Anniversary Special
    	Disney's Living Seas
    	Ernest Goes to Splash Mountain

There are also a couple of other shows listed for July 17 which
sound interesting but have no description in the magazine. Do
any of you know what these are about (Is Dateline Disneyland
    the opening day show?)?
    	Dateline Disneyland
    	Snow White Live
From the Pirates of the Caribbean to the World of Tomorrow
18.16More details - July 17th anniversary programmingCLOSET::AAARGH::LOWELLGrim Grinning Ghosts...Mon Jul 02 1990 15:4221
    re: .14

I saw something on The Disney Channel that described the schedule
    in more detail:

Dateline Disneyland is supposed to be the original opening day
    special.

Snow White Live looked to be a theatrical production with costumes
that look similar to the ones used in the movie.

From the Pirates of the Caribbean to the World of Tomorrow is some
sort of a behind the scenes tour of Disneyland.

Disneyland Showtime is an old special featuring the Osmonds at
Disneyland. I think I saw this a while ago on a Walt Disney Presents
    show.

Although the guide lists Disneyland's 35th Anniversary Special as
showing at 4:00PM, the blurb they showed on The Disney Channel said
they are showing Disneyland's 25th Anniversary Special.
18.17The specials were greatCLOSET::AAARGH::LOWELLGrim Grinning Ghosts...Thu Jul 19 1990 16:2736
If you didn't get to watch (or tape) the specials on the 17th,
you missed some good stuff! The line up consisted of repeats of
prior Disneyland shows broadcast in chronological order. It was
really interesting to see the changes that have taken place over
    time.

First they showed the original opening day special. It was hard
to make out details because it was in black and white but was
fun to watch. The broadcast was less polished than the ones we
see today but they did a great job of keeping the disasters off
    camera.

Later they showed From the Pirates of the Caribbean to the World
of Tomorrow. This was by far the best show. They showed every
detail of the attraction - the model, the pirates being made,
the ride being built, the opening day activities and a fairly
complete ride through. The second part of the show showed the
new parts of Tomorrowland - the WEDway people mover, Journey into
Inner-Space (or something like that), the Carousel of Progress
    (with the original song!), etc..

Next was Disneyland Showtime which starred the Osmonds. They
were supposed to perform but Donny wandered off. Most of the rest
of the show consisted of the rest of the Osmonds looking for him.
At the end they showed the details of the Haunted Mansion - from
models to the actual attraction. The Haunted Mansion part was
great but the Osmond part was too passe for me.

Later on they showed repeats of the 25th and 35th anniversary
specials. I haven't watched all of the 25th special yet but it
didn't seem to be that great. The 35th special was the one that
    starred Tony Danza.

In between the shows they showed short clips about Disney
Imagineering and gave a couple of updates about the day's activities
    at the park.
18.18Irritiated at Censorship!NITMOI::WITHERSAnother Hallmark Moment. -Al BundyFri Jul 27 1990 14:0922
A night or two I found myself fairly irritated at the Disney Channel. A fair
number of good films are coming on and I, of course, like some of the park
promotional material but what I discovered was that Disney has been censoring
the films it shows.

This may have been obvious to all of you but I was somewhat appalled, having
taken for granted that a film I see on a commercialess-pay-channel will be
censor-free. I am talking about night films too, not middle of the afternoon
childrens fare.

Anyway, the film that showed editing was none other than Disney Studios
own "20,000 Leagues Beneath The Sea". A film which, I might add is considered
classic, is *still* a great piece of science fiction, had good special effects
and a nice story, and was RELEASED WITH A G RATING!

This is an irritant to me because I noticed it on this film and wonder now,
if they'll edit there own, G-Rated, Classic films where do they stop? When
you sit down and watch Roger Rabbit will some scene be missing?

Anyway, I had to get this out of my system,

18.20yeah, censorship, boo, hiss!BOOKIE::EPPESI'm not making this up, you knowMon Jul 30 1990 18:4114
The Disney Channel edited a *Disney* movie?? Good grief! How, exactly, was
"20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" edited? (Just curious.)

I did notice that when the DC recently (well, semi-recently) showed "The
Electric Horseman," some of the language was edited. I was very surprised
and also annoyed. (I didn't notice that any scenes were missing, but now I'm
wondering...)

Sounds like it might be worth comparing films that are shown on other
cable channels in addition to the DC and see what kind of censorship/editing is
going on at the DC. If you can't trust Disney, who *can* you trust?

18.21what I noticedNITMOI::WITHERSAnother Hallmark Moment. -Al BundyTue Jul 31 1990 10:2310
What I noticed was a rough cut during the scene of New Ginny (sp!) when the
canibals attacked the Nautalis. In the original they enter the aft hatch
and come halfway down the stairs before Capt. Nemo turns on the "shocker".

What happened was a cut from them landing on the Nautalis to Nemo turning
the "shocker" on to them jumping off the boat. Its just a small cutting of
some canibals being shocked. But it *is* a cutting nonetheless! And always
gives me the qualms of "this is what I noticed...what else is missing?".

18.22Another mucked with movieCLOSET::AAARGH::LOWELLGrim Grinning Ghosts...Tue Jul 31 1990 11:188
I was surprised that "Real Genius" was playing on The Disney Channel,
until I saw it. They had dubbed over the less acceptable words. It
was surprising but I should have expected it. I didn't notice if any
    scenes were cut.

I think they shouldn't show any films that need to be cut on The
Disney Channel. They should be showing mostly Disney material and
there is no excuse for cutting any of that!
18.23And another...CURIE::AWILLIAMSNot this hare, cueball!!Tue Jul 31 1990 11:3615
    Adding to the list...

During one of the "freebie" weekends, we taped "Return to Snowy River"
(one of our favorite movies!!) and upon later viewing, I noticed the
Disney Channel had "editied" it the tiniest bit. There's only one
"less acceptable" word. Brian Dennehy's character says something like,
"I'll get my own *damn* (or maybe it's *goddamn*) drink!" And sure
    enough, it was excised.

Most of the time, this stuff doesn't bother me too much, unless they're
mucking around with the whole film, but it is definitely one of life's
annoyances. Kinda like when an announcer comes over the end credits
and theme of a movie/show to tell you what's on next...

Has anyone seen "It All Started with a Mouse"? It was on the DC last

the films you see on the animation tour in MGM.

The Disney Channel is taunting us yet again with another free preview.
They seem to have these a lot more frequently than the other pay TV
channels. It will run from Thursday, June 13th through Sunday,
June 16th. The highlights include showings of "Honey, I Shrunk the
Kids" and "The Sword in the Stone" as well as a performance by The
Highwaymen live in concert. I didn't notice any listings for any
"behind the scenes" or "making of...." type shows, which I would have
liked to have seen, but what can you do?

I'm not sure where this should go, but since I saw it on The
Disney Channel I figured I'd put it here.

About an hour ago I saw some of the Television Tryouts (not
sure if that's the right name) from MGM. They were showing
children who were doing sales pitches for cows - Hoofs and
something or other. Anyway, one of the participants was
Elizabeth Batty (age 7) from ???, England (I wasn't quick
    enough to catch the name).

    Mike, was this your daughter?
18.28Certainly sounds like it!WOTVAX::BATTYWell, I wouldn't start from here!Thu Jul 25 1991 06:3949
Yes Ruth, it certainly sounds like it. We called in at the Disney
Club Studios in MGM on Sunday 7th July, just to sit in the
audience, to see what went on.
To officially get on to the actual TV Tryouts 'cast', you
normally need to register early in the day, with all details of
skills or talents, and they give you a slot. While we waited to
enter, the producer announced that they were short by a couple of
children, if anyone wanted to stand in. Like a shot, our 'Liz' was
under the ropes, announcing that she would dance, sing all the
songs from "The Little Mermaid" or anything else they wanted!!
Most of the cast are just there to be filmed applauding,
laughing and enjoying the pre-selected talent, who do the little
dancing, singing or comedy slots, and that's all we expected to
happen to her. However, they'd just had some dumpy kid doing a
send up of a Weatherman, 'blue screen' background projecting
weather maps etc., and he was a disaster - couldn't read long
words like stormy and raining from the cue cards! The Linkman
rapidly moved into the cast to cover the embarassment, asking them
'if they had the chance, what would be the most useful invention
they could create'. He picked on Elizabeth first, and when, after
profound thought, she came up with a device for picking ants out
of your clothing, it completely 'corpsed' the whole studio. She
delivered the suggestion in such a serious manner, as if this was
the most important crisis facing mankind, that even the cameraman
had difficulty in keeping the shot still, while bottling up a
    laugh!
After that, she had it made! The producer dragged her off,
dressed her in the loud jacket and stetson, which I understand
typifies a certain breed of second hand car salesman, and put her
in the sketch which you saw, selling second hand cows "with
genuine cowhide upholstery and twin horns". I don't think she did
the sketch justice, 'cos she's never seen the type of Ad she was
supposed to be sending up, but it was a big hit with the audience.
We thought that that was the end of it, some of the kids
with real talent were likely to appear on the Disney Club, but for
most, it was their 'five minutes of fame' and that would be that.

We, especially Elizabeth, would love to hear any more
details. I don't suppose anyone has a tape of the show that we
    could get copied and converted?

Does anyone know if anything further might happen? Flown
back to MGM for a guest appearance perhaps (with doting father
    accompanying her of course!).

Thanks for the note anyway, Ruth. Liz will be thrilled to
know that she made it onto US TV!

I saw it too. I'm not sure how often they will show the same
highlights. I got the impression that on a certain night of the week
right after a certain timeslot (like right after the 7 P.M. movie) they
will show the previous week's best TV tryouts.

I'll keep the VCR and a blank tape ready for the remainder of this week
just in case they repeat the show.

Would anyone like to comment on this show?

I've seen it and was very disappointed in it's content. It was
superficial at best with the highlights for me being some footage of
"Surprise in the Skies", Spectromagic, and some artist renditions of
Sunset Blvd. and other coming attractions.

For those of you who do not get the Disney Channel I think you'll be

DITTO. I was in WDW for 20th,so had VCR set to tape The 20th
anniversary specials. VERRRRRRRrry disappointing. If you told me that
I had an hour or two to fill re: 20 years at WDW, I'd have a great time
getting all the footage together, and would have a problem cutting
footage. start in '66... give background buying land...start
construction... Walt dies ... Roy takes over... confusion ... finish
MK. Epcot Prototype... all the way to today. Not an ad for casual
observers that give them a little tour. I waited 20 years for this?

Did anyone catch that "Disney Dream" segment last night on the Disney
    Channel?

At around 9:45 there was a short piece on this "WDW Dream" promotion
they had earlier in the year. People were asked to wrtie in what they
    would consider a WDW Dream.

One of the two winning entries was submitted by a teenage girl. She and
her younger sister live with their single mother. The girl mentioned
how she and her sister and mom had become real close friends with this
single father and his two sons. As a matter of fact they had spent two
weeks in Disney together in 1990. It was during that vacation that the
gentleman proposed to the lady. A late Summer wedding was planned for
    1991.

However the plans all changed when that letter was selected as one of
the two winning entries. The entire family and wedding party was flown
down to Orlando, several parties were held including a bachelor and
    bachelorette party.

These two people were wed in front of Cinderella's Castle in TMK. They
    showed the ceremony.

Imagine the entire park is closed...it's at night...and you await your
bride in front of Cinderella's castle which is draped in a purple light
and strobe lights constantly shimmer over the castle much like seconds
before the beginning of "Fantasy in the Sky".

Then you hear something like horses getting closer and your bride shows
    up in CInderella's coach.

I tell ya it was a real fairy tale like setting. It was so quiet and
all these people in the wedding party, including the groom and bride,
had tears down their eyes because of the wonderment of the moment.

The priest conducted the ceremony and as he pronounced them man and
wife a number of troubadors carry horns (like in days of yore) paraded
in front of the castle and played their horns.

It was one of the most touching moments I've ever seen presented on the
Disney Channel. I hope they show it again 'cause I didn't tape it and
everyone else in my house was sleeping when this piece came on the
    tube.

I caught that last part, where the wedding was taking place in front
of the castle. I was JEALOUS!!! I didn't know who the people were and
why they rated this wedding in the MK. I'll have to keep a watch out
for it. This might have been on right after the making of Fantasia
since there was a big gap in time until the next program.

Sorry Skip but I don't subscribe either, my wife won't let me, claims
something about I watch to much TV as it is, and if I had Disney

Actually with exception to the blurbs about Disney World (one of the
reasons I get Disney News), I really don't see the point, most of the
movies I'd be interested in watching would be available at the local

DId anyone catch Zorro on The Disney Channel last night? The very first
Zorro episode was shown with Diego coming back from Spain. The whole
premise for the series was laid out in this initial episode:

         - Diego's decision to put up a facade of a man of Arts and Science
         - The hiding of Diego's mastery of the sword (and his fencing
           trophies).
         - He and Bernardo's plan to have Bernardo pretend he is deaf.
         - Tornado.
         - Diego calling himself a "Fox" El Zorro.

This episode originally aired in 1957 but it was in b&W. Last night was
possibly the first time this episode was aired in a colorized version.

If you missed the show tune in on early Sunday afternoon for a repeat

18.54How do you ask about Disney Channel Programs??LEDS::TRIPPMon Mar 28 1994 15:4221
I am hoping this is an appropriate request, haven't read/written too
    much in this particular note...

How can I contact the powers that be, for a program broadcast on the
Disney Channel? Specifically, yesterday my son was watching My Little
Pony on the Disney Channel, it was the 10:30-11:00 am, EST timeframe.
There was a song during the program, the words seemed particularly
meaninful, and I would like to get words and music for a special
occation in June, for a young lady friend of the family.

Who would I write to, call, would the above description of the program
time, and maybe a brief description of the words in the song be of any
    help.

I have the Disney channel as a premium channel, my service comes from
Greater Media Cable out of Worcester.

Any ideas would be great, I don't get in here much, so off line would
    be much easier.

Starting on June 10th (or is it June 7th?) The Disney Channel will have
a weekly program called something like "Walt Disney World Inside and
Out" and will feature stories on the resort.

Apparently the decision was made to have this film crew and host (I
forgot his name) be in full view of the guests while shooting and even
    talk to the guests.

So during your next visit to The World try your best to get on The
Disney Channel. I know I'll give it my best shot over 2 weeks.

18.58WDW: Inside OutWREATH::SCOPAWed Jun 08 1994 11:1031
So did anyone catch "Disney World:Inside Out" last night?

The show was hosted by Scott(?) Herriot who takes his crew all over
    WDW. Last night's highlights were:

     - A contest for guests riding BTMRR. They had to hold in their mouths
cups filled with water. Whoever held the most water won a prize
(Mickey Umbrella). The rest got ponchos.

     - There was a small segment on the TOT but since the show was filmed
in late April the scaffolding was still up. However a brief
description of the attraction was given and we did get a look at the
       view from the elevator.

     - We got to see how they are teaching dolphins to communicate in The
       Living Seas.

     - The Splashtacular fountain was shown and we heard all about the huge
nozzles that spray the water high into the air.

     - We got to see Hulk Hogan and our host eat at the Marrakesh.

     - We got quickie views of The Wilderness Lodge and All-Star Resorts.

I guess this show had a water theme to it. WDW has 97 pools and 108
    ways to get wet.

I may watch the next show on my TV in my room at the CBR and
    maybe...just maybe...I'll get on a future show.

    Hi Mike,

I saw the show last night. I liked seeing shots of WDW but I was
disapointed with the host. He seemed to be searching for the laughs.
I would have liked to see more of the new hotels. If this is going to
be a monthly show, maybe I'll see more then. I did get a kick out of
the test they did on the castmembers. I'm glad to see that no one lost
their patience. Also after seeing the view from the TOT, I'm not sure
I'll try that one. I like Space Mountain, BTMRR, and Splash Mountain
but TOT looks very scary! I would say Heart stoping!

I do think I will watch again just because I can't get enough of seeing
    WDW!

    Rose,

I think it is a monthly show.

I forgot to mention that they hired an actor to go around to cast
members and speak in a strange language. The objective was to see just
how helpful the cast members are. Through hidden cameras and
microphones we saw how castmembers try to help their guests.

Rose, I too didn't like all the joking around. The key is that the
producers most likely wanted to emphasize FUN....but the show would
    have worked without it.

He looks for families who are really enjoying themselves and appear
