Totally agree with you. As I mentioned in another note that talked
about Yamaha woods, like my driver, I have the same problem: I try
too hard with it. I guess that most of us know that, but since I
only get it out of the bag ocasionally, when I do do it, I always try
to smack it as hard as I can, and forget about the gentle swing and
all the rest.
That is why I have am spending as much time using it at the range as
the rest of my bag together.

Ya, with a driver you need to swing smooth like Calcavecchia, not
out of your ___ like Couples, ;-)...

| Hi,
I have found that this is the club that makes me really visualize
the whole hitting process. The things that help are:
1.Playing the ball forward to assure an up-swing at contact versus
my normal pinching action(i.e. no divot)
2.Getting good balance for my stance and assuring at least one full
practice swing
3.Teeing on a VERY level part of the time and making sure that my
feet are level with the balls teeing area
4.Feeling the club head swing by using a very light grip in my right
hand and slighty tighter on my left hand grip(i.e. I swing RIGHT)
I am a very accurate but not long driver and these are my TIPS for
DRIVING SUCCESS.
Tom
PS
I still also feel that a driver is wooden and one made of metal
is a 1MET!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Pete, I've heard it all before, but like most, have forgotten
before I gave it a chance to work, I'm having all kinds of trouble
getting off the tee with my 1 wood (soon to be my fire wood), this
p.m. I have a Digital match and I'll try and remember what you said,
The hardest part of my game, is that six inchs between my ears....

| Roger,
One point to note is that if you haven't tried a shot or club
or correction a number of times you really shouldn't use it during
a match. Chances are theshot will cost you more trying something
new that would the safe shot you already know how to hit.
Taken the One wood to the practice tee and work it out there before
you try anything in a match.

I too had a problem with the one wood. I have read many different
articles as well as a few lessons. The point you made about
swinging to hard was and still sometimes is my problem. One discussion
within this notes file helped me with the swing problem. That is the
left foot, (I play right). I used to lift my left heel on the back
swing, I now keep that heel on the ground. This controls any swaying
action of my upper body and slows down my backswing. It has helped
me a great deal.
Some people my argue that you lose club head speed/power, this maybe
true, however, I have been hitting the ball much farther and straighter
than before.
And don't forget to round those wrists!

| I had many problems with the driver and here is what worked for me.
1. Use a 3/4 swing instead of a full one.
2. Try and use the same swing as you would for a 9 iron.
3. Do not alter your grip.
4. Try using a driver with more than the normal 10 degree loft as this
tends to impart more side spin causing the ball to wander left to
right.
5. By slowing down your swing you should be able to bring into play the
other elements like , shoulder turn, weight transference, and follow
through. This is where players like Woosnam get their power from.
6. Always tee the ball up so when you place your club on the ground
half the ball is above the club head.
7. Position the club face at the target and the ball on the inside of
your left heel. The shoulders should follow the position of the feet
only if you have the correct posture over the ball ( a nice comfortable
position ).
8. PRACTICE. PRACTICE. AND MORE PRACTICE.
HOPE YOU CAN FIND SOMETHING OF USE THERE...
REGARDS STEVE...
