| To add some info... I'd like also to detail what I see as a
possible alternative.
First of all you play for one half of the season. At the mid break
you take a snapshot of the standings. The first and second place
teams are then guaranteed places within the year ends playoffs. The
points accumilated for the half by these teams are recorded.
To start the second half the points totals are then reset to zero
and the second half on the season played. Again the first and second
place teams are in the playoffs. The points scored in the first
half and added to the points scored in the second half and a
ranking of the four teams in developed and the play-offs begin.

The DEC league at Stow Acres has the following playoff selection
process: (copied from the 1988 league rules)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Each flight will have a separate playoff. The number of teams making
the playoffs will be in proportion to the number of teams in the
flight. This season, there will be:
12 teams - A flight 32 teams - B flight 16 teasm - C flight
(My note: This means that 50 % of total teams in each flight make the
playoffs)
1. Winners of both halves - order determined by total points.
2. Winners/First half and second half - order determined by total
points during the season. Tie breakers will be points first
half/points second half.
3. Team with the greatest total of points for the season. Tie
breakers will be division finish during during first half/second
half.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know how the teams are matched in the playoffs, but the
format is basically two brakets made each of half the payoff teams
and where the winners of each bracket play for the championship in an
18 hole round (normal is 9 holes), something like
Team 1

Our league is set up with two halves. The 1st place teams from
each half playoff at the end of the season for 1st place (the
loser getting 2nd place). The second place teams from each half
playoff for 3rd place (the loser getting 4th place). The end
of the season handicaps are used by all players in the playoff.
I should mention that we have a small league, 16 teams, so this
fromat works good for us...

| i hope that when leagues start playoffs that EVERY team that made
the playoffs has a chance for the championship.
i know the league i'am in has 4 teams in the playoffs, TEAM 1
plays TEAM 2 for the championship. TEAM 3 & 4 play for 3rd and 4th.
it drives me nuts thinking i've made the playoffs but can't
play for the championship.
1 vs 4 2 vs 3 then the winners / losers play
thats a gimmie lets go
