Ahh... finally got hold of a new pair of Etonic Tour Classic shoes - I'd used my old ones for 4 seasons now but they finally gave up on me. World-class quality, if you ask me (how come you Americans can make such terrific shoes when you make such lousy cars... :-)) but I think they may have lasted a few more years if I'd been more careful with the daily care. Our course can be rather tough on shoes - lots of bunkers, thorns in the rough, quite a bit of rain, etc - so I'd appreciate some advice on how to best take care of golf shoes, apart from the obvious things like using shoe trees and such. -- Mr Litby

Before you go out with your new shoes, take out all the spikes and grease them. Then when you go to change them, you'll be able to get them out. tim

Before you wear them use a good saddle soap on them to help seal them, and protect the leather. Let them air dry after getting wet. If possible have 2-3 pairs of shoes, cheaper ones for wet mornings, and a backup pair for alternate days. Wearing the same shoes continually is hard on them, they never get dry from foot perspiration and dew. -.1 makes a good point about using vaseline or grease on the spikes, it makes them much easier to change as they wear down. Don't go looking for the ones you hit in swamps, deep woods, heavy rocks, etc. That's the reason why my shoes never last :*) Walking on tar, parking lots etc. not only wear dowm the spikes, but this also weakens the bottom of the shoe. Smitty

I have 5 pairs of shoes. Early Spring, Spring, (2) Summer and one for the fall. By alternating , using older ones for early spring and fall, and the better for summer when I play a lot, I have gone 9 years with no need of shoes, other than ego or fashion pushing me into buying them. One all white, one all black, one black and white saddle, one brown and white saddle, and one white SOFT FJ type. Vasoline on the spikes, saddle soap, and alternating use plus shoe trees and polish keep me in good shape and actually a lower cost "of walking". |
