The big hoo-hah over gold connectors is that they don't oxidize
quickly, which I guess keeps the connections from becoming noisy
resistors. I use Cramolin on the plugs and jacks, which supposedly
cuts down on this natural tendency. Seems to work for me...

2337.3 | even MORE flaky??? | MILKWY::JANZEN | Tom 228-5421 FXO/28 | Fri May 11 1990 15:35 | 4 |
| I always buy those incredibly cheap pre-builts from radio shack
unshielded rca phonoplug to phonoplug and use 'em until they get
more flaky.

It depends so much on what kind of equipment you're running and what
your expectations are. If you're talking a portable 4 track, cabling
should be the least of your worries. But if you're setting up a studio
with a decent recorder then high quality patch bays and patches make a
big difference in CONSISTENT sound quality.

I have a Fostex R8 8-track and looking for the best sound possible.
I want to get into the business and figure I should try and get the
best inorder to get return business. I use all 1/4" with the exception
of the R8 having all RCA input/output jacks, into a FURMAN patch bay.
.4's title "1/4" and RCA's are LOUSY connectors" how many other types
are there for home studio use? What ones might you reccommened.
I am planning on upgrading to bigger and better things if and when I
get established.

2337.6 | Rapco cables | TALLIS::PALMER | Colonel Mode | Fri Jun 01 1990 16:27 | 5 |
| I hate flakey cables so I always use good quality cables with
Switchcraft connectors. Try Rapco cables. If you buy them in
quantity Wurlie's will give you a good discount.

2337.8 | looking for Mail Order source | MAIL::EATOND | In tents | Mon Aug 20 1990 12:25 | 6 |
| Now that I'm not in the area of MacDuff's anymore, can anyone recommend
a good mail order source for good quality audio cables that won't cost
as much as the mixer their connecting to?
