897.0. "Pull all your teeth out." by POLAR::ROBINSONP (Liv'er on the edge) Thu Feb 16 1995 14:26

Well, here is the latest on taxing your dental plan...

The proposal to end the 45 year Federal policy on non-taxing
of dental and health care benefits is expected to come forth
in the next budget. The effect on Digital employees has not been
formally released but the following table can provide an estimate
    based on salary.

For health benefits valued at $2000 dollars the effect would
    be:

                    at 25,000....550$ additional tax
                    at 50,000....880$ additional tax
                    at 65,000....1020$ additonal tax

The % difference is greatest for the lowest paid employees.

Diane Marleau said in January 1994, that "This govn't cannot
accept any measures which amount to a tax on sickness". Ms.
Marleau is history, as she is being replaced by a newly elected
Quebecer from one of the ridings that just had a by-election and
    another Liberal sweep.

Anyone else feel a hand in their pocket? Call/write your MP
    now.

What can I say? I'm a "low paid employee". I brush my teeth daily, go
for regular check-ups (with or without insurance because i believe i'm
worth it.) I eat a diet high in fibre, excercise regularily, stay out
of debt [that means no car or other luxuries] so I really cant
sympathize with you. I'd say dont trust your M.P. take some personal
responsibility and reduce your expenses. Whats a little tax when you
live in the capital city of perhaps the friendliest, safest country in
    the world.

We already know you're a low paid employee, you work here. No need to
state the painfully obvious and put us all in a crappy mood.

        Pat,

For us dummies south of the border or at least this one, could you
please let me know what's a MP? I know once you say what it is I'm
going to smack myself in the forehead and say I knew that.

As long as I'm here I might as well add that MP's are elected at the
local level. I'm not sure about this but I would say that there is
probably 1 MP for every 30,000 souls.
