| It's a wonder how these little connections are exploited, eh(tm)?
I was living in Ottawa when Elizabeth Manley was a rising skating
star... At first it was "Elizabeth Manley of Gloucester" (near
Ottawa); then she became a contender and the Ottawa Citizen liked
to call her "Ottawa's Elizabeth Manley..." . By the time she won
her Olympic medals the Toronto Star was saying her "Elizabeth
Manley of Toronto won a medal today..." Now she's in the Ice
Capades or something, she's probably an "American skater".

Wald-weenie,
How's it goin ya old dog! Gee I can't believe they let you into
this notes file. Granted the readership is down, and the sponsors
just aren't paying what they used to, but to stoop so low. Oh well
I guess we're just going to have to get used to it, a real whiner
in the Canada conference.
I am quite flabbergasted at your low opinion of Paul Schaffer,
from what I understood, you were a great fan of his talents.
Speaking of not being proud. Have you seen the new appliance
invented for the discerning Canadian? Its a brake pre-heater.
You simply plug it in for five minutes before you drive the car and
that pesky icing on the brake pads disappears in a jiffy. Included
is; the device, a step-by-step instruction manual, and a handy
booklet on how to drive in the winter months.
See-ya,
Charlie
ps BTW its guaranteed for two full winters and covers any garage
door damage as a result of equipment failure or the avoidance
of reading the handy booklet on how to drive in the winter
months.

Well it's all relative as the RC's in Quebec used to say (they
have smaller families now...) No 2 people would ever agree on any
list of famous people, it's probably more "personal interest" than
"national".... Take Buffie St Marie, i.e. any real folk music fan
*anywhere* would recognize her songs, but most Canadians wouldn't!
But she passes the objective test: she gets to live in a fancy
house in Hawaii with the jet set artistes ;-)
Some Americans I admire are likewise unknown to most Americans!...
but they're "famous" to me, a Canadian... One of life's
major disappointments to me is I will never hear Judy Henske
(American singer) sing the National Anthem at the World Series...
chorus: (who's Judy Henske.... who cares...)

| You could stretch the concept of this topic a bit, to include famous
Americans who are getting their training/inspiration in Canada. That
would then include these figure skaters:
Kristi Yamaguchi, new World Ladies Champion, who now trains in Edmonton
('cause her coach, Christi Neff, moved there).
Christopher Bowman (Bowman the Showman), former World Silver Medalist,
who now trains in Toronto under Toller Cranston ('cause he couldn't
stand his old coach in California).

Too long, I'd venture. There are many players in the NHL

just a couple of Statesians. There are a LOT of Europeans
as well.
