1739.0. "Fall Equinox" by ELMAGO::AHACHE (So many books, so little time) Mon Sep 21 1992 11:41

Happy Fall Equinox, now is the time when the farmers use to start
their rest period after the harvest. My garden is still growing
full force so my harvest is not over, I even plan on planting
    a winter garden.

Enjoy the day and acknowledge what you have to be grateful for.
As you sow so shall you reap. I'm grateful for family, friends
    and this great notes file.

What are you planting in your winter garden, Adele?

We've just put in a late crop of lettuce, more peas and beans, and a
special crop of Siberian kale which we're trying for the first time.
The peppers are going to be lifted and will continue to fruit on the
kitchen windowsill (with the help of a paintbrush to transfer pollen!)
just as they did last year.

I think I'm also going to plant some lettuce, peas and then some
in-ground crop like potatoes, beets and carrots. A paint brush
to transfer pollen, what a great idea. I wonder if a Q-tip would work
    also.

This summer I planted carrots, watermelon, cateloupe, tomatoes, summer
squash, eggplant and corn. The corn didn't do well since it was too
close the fence and got too much shade. I also planted some jalepenos
but I watered them too much, they're good but they taste like green
peppers. Being in New Mexico it's not a problem, we can buy
35 lbs of jalepenos for 10.00 and that's including having them roasted.

Snow peas do very well this time of year... up here anyway.. and
    they're so good.

    That's a good suggestion, they're great in a stir-fry.

I grew a pile of peppers this year and they all grew like weeds! The
Thai peppers did fabulously - they are about the same heat as a serano,
but half the size. Eat them raw with mouthfuls of a good Indian curry
    ..... OOOOOoooooooohhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

the aging days of the summer are here
the fall will reach and be so near
the trees will shake with a silent jeer
the plants will swing and feel more weak
a twig will yield to the mellowing years
the sight of a dying leaf
ripe in age and tarrying the final leave
wanting to remain and not bequeath
wrapped by the mist like a sorrow tear
of haze so tranquil and serene
it falls and weeps
and rides an old stream in a silent peace
the cold outside fuels the heart
the chill in the air ignites the mind
winter will reach and be so near
a cry for all to hear
