I only saw the last segment, about the school, and I missed
the first minute of that, so I didn't know if there had been
a tragedy there of some sort (?). If not, it brings up the
concept of different realities, like radio stations, that can
be tuned into...(versus the standard dead person/ghost theory).

| I wrote about this in a different note (can't recall which one) but I'm
reminded of it due to the photograph that was shown on the True Ghost
story Toys R Us episode. I was visiting with friends of mine several
months ago. Their daughter had come home with the Two Men and a Baby
video which at that time was publicized as having a boy ghost in it.
Anyway, the mother began talking to her daughter about the video being
a gimmick and proceeded to show her and me a photograph she had in her
photo album. There was a photo of some kids in a kitchen having a
birthday party. In the background there is an image of a man's face.
She told me that the photolab had kept this photo for quite some time
because they were trying to figure out what had caused this image to
show up on the photo, thinking it was a developing error or something.
Anyway they finally sent the photo to my friend and said they outruled
any possibility of it being a developing error or light reflections
etc. I wish I could show this photo here...I can only describe it as
a face of a man who seemed happy to be there with the children.
I believe anything is possible and was excited to have been given the
chance to see the photo.

| Anyone catch Oprah's show May 21,1991. it was on ghost and ghostly
experiences that her guess have had. She herself had a little
ghostly experience that changed her mind about ghost.
Most of the people that were on lived in a housing community
that had been buildt on a cemetery. They sold their homes to
other people because they were driven to by the ghost.
The funny thing is the peopl who bought their homes now
are not having any problem at all.
Some of their exsperiences sounded right out of the movies.
They showed som photographs that were suppose to be ghost.

| Well lets see if I can remember all of it. She said she was staying
at a friends house and for some reason got up in the night.
I think she said something woke her. As she was walking towards
her friends room she saw something flash by her which made her
stop in her tracks. It couldn't really describe it as being
human or transparent but she said she 'd never seen anything
like it. Anyhow it changed her mind about ghosts that maybe
it could happen.

| Thanks for sharing that. When my oldest sister was about 4 yrs old she
remembers playing in the hallway with my cousin who was about 3 yrs old.
She remembers looking up the stairs seeing a women in white descend
down the stairs but then the woman disappeared. She said there was a
certain white glow about her. My sister ran out of the hallway screaming
and terrified. My cousin doesn't remember it though. My grandparents
and aunt were living on the 2nd floor at the time (this house was made
into 4 apartments). They were asked if they had come down the
stairs and both said they hadn't. My sister can still picture this as
though it happened yesterday. Of course one might think that a 4 yr old's
imagination can play tricks on them. Its quite possible, but the
interesting thing is this house was once a popular hotel in the late
1800's. Who knows!

1468.8 | TOYS R' US UPDATE | GLDOA::VONIER | Down at the Sunset Grill | Wed May 29 1991 13:31 | 44 |
| The Toys R' Us segement started out many years ago, can't remember
exactly, at least 50 or more. Anyway, it involved a young man and a
woman. The man was a caretaker on the woman's family farm. The young
man was very much in love with the young ladie. One day as the young
man, can't remember his name--for sake of argument I'll call him Bill,
was splitting wood the young woman came to tell him that she was in
love with someone else and was going to be married. Bill became very
upset with this news and started yelling at the girl. She got scared
and ran back to the house. Bill was frantic and started going crazy
with the axe chopping up anything in sight. In his frenzy, he swang
the axe so hard he missed the chopping block and the axe went right
into his leg (pretty gruesome!) Well, he fell down and bled to death.
Years later the farm was torn down and now is the site for the Toy R'
Us store. The employees claim that Bill haunts the store still in
search for his one true love.
They showed an employee that was in the storage room taking inventory
when she heard Bill calling out a woman's name and then suddenly
feeling a wave of coldness and someone caressing her hair. She ran out
of the storage room screaming and brought the manager in. When the
manager walked in toys were flying through the air and rolling around
on the floor.
They finally called in a "ghostbuster" and held a seance (sp?).
Photographers were ready to catch Bill on film. Bill fianlly came
forward and there were pictures taken of him, which were revealed later
in the show. The psychic then proceeded to tell Bill that his love was
now dead and waiting for him in the light. She kept telling Bill to go
toward the light and he would finally find happiness. Suddenly Bill
disappears.
For months there were no irregularities at the store and the employees
were sure Bill was gone for good. One night as the manager was locking
up she heard Bill's voice again and went back into the store to look
for him. As she turned down an aisle there was a toy train going
around on it's track with the girl's name spelled out in the center of
the train track, (can't recall the girls name either).
The ghost of Bill did not appear to harmful in any way, he was just
searching for his lost love. The show said that maybe he will never go
into the light and will wander on this piece of ground forever.

| TRUE GHOST (?) STORY
I don't know if it was a ghost but one night I was babysitting
my next door neighbors little girl. She was about 5 years old.
She asked me to go into her bedroom so she could show me something.
She told me to turn off the light, so I did. She went over to
an electrical outlet on the wall and plugged a nightlight into it.
As soon as she did this, her two wooden sliding closet doors began
shaking VIOLENTLY, up and down and back and forth (as if a very
large man was behind them shaking them). They shook and jumped
up and down so hard that they came off their tracks. This only
lasted for a few seconds. The little girl looked at me and saw my
startled face. I asked her how she did that, and she said "I don't
know it just happens somtimes, it's magic".
I asked her to plug the nightlight in again and she did, but
nothing happened. I asked her if anyone else had seen this happen
and she said no. After I checked out the closet to make sure no-
one was inside and that nothing had fallen from a shelf inside,
I told the girl, "Let's go in the livingroom and watch some T.V.
As she held the nightlight in her hand she said "I think I'm going
to throw this away, I don't like it anymore". I told her not to
throw it away. I proceeded to call my mother and ask her to finish
babysitting for me that night since I didn't feel well (as I was
spooked). At that time I lived at home, so my Mom was right next
door. I didn't tell her about the closet doors. Nothing strange
happened during the rest of the night while my Mom was there, BUT
the next morning my neighbor came over to our house and asked my
Mom what had happened in the little girls room the night before.
My Mom said "What do you mean?". The mother said "When I went to
Amy's bedroom all of the pictures had fallen off the walls". I
never noticed any pictures falling off the walls when the closet
doors shook! Also, I spoke to two different electricians (not
telling them all of what happened) trying to see if the nightlight
could have sent an electrical shock strong enough to knock the
wooden doors off their track and make them jump up and down for
several seconds, AND knock all the pictures in the room off the
walls? They told me they couldn't explain how that could happen.
I was told by someone who believes in ghosts and poltergeists
that it was probably a poltergeist, since they like to hide in
childrens closets! I never believed in ghosts before, but unless
someone can explain what happened, I'm beginning to believe.
It's been about 12 years ago that this happened and I still
remember it so clearly. I ran into the little girl just last
week (she's now 17 years old), and I asked her if she remembered
12 years ago when I was babysitting her and something strange
happened. Right away she smiled and said "I remember! The closet
doors shook really hard!" She and I both started laughing, but
at the time we both were SCARED!
Any one have any explanations as to what it could have been??
Thanx!

Usually, poltergeists are connected to older children.
Whatever else, a couple of things are suggestive.
> She asked me to go into her bedroom so she could show me something.
> She told me to turn off the light, so I did. She went over to
> an electrical outlet on the wall and plugged a nightlight into it.
> As soon as she did this, her two wooden sliding closet doors began

This suggests that she'd known what was involved in the effect; i.e., that
she'd done it before, verified by:
> .....................I asked her how she did that, and she said "I don't
> know it just happens somtimes, it's magic".
But she must have been fairly sure it _would_ happen or she wouldn't have
given the demo.
> As she held the nightlight in her hand she said "I think I'm going
> to throw this away, I don't like it anymore". I told her not to
> throw it away.
What ever happened to the night light? And did she ever explain why she
didn't like it any more?

1468.14 | NO EXPLANATION??? | 37339::JZARUDZKI | | Wed Jun 19 1991 12:01 | 36 |
| Steve,
The man I spoke to who said it could have been a poltergeist also
said another possibility would be that the little girl (she was
about 4 or 5 years old) had a special "power"/ability to move
things without touching them. The girl was VERY excited about
me babysitting her that night since I hadn't babysat her for
quite some time (since my younger sister had taken over some of
my babysitting customers). The man told me all the excitement
built up in the girl may have made her "power" even stronger
than normal, and maybe the girl made the doors move the way they
did, and make the pictures fall off the walls. The girl didn't
seem scared or nervous until she looked at me and saw the
startled expression on my face. Maybe if she did make the doors
move (to show me to impress me or share something special with
me) but she saw I was scared by it, she decided it wasn't some-
thing she should be doing? When I spoke to the girl last week
she said to me "I don't know how that happened. I don't even
know why I wanted to show you that nightlight". To answer your
question... I don't know what happened to the nightlight (if I
remember correctly, it had a clown face or something on the front
of it). I don't want to push the issue with my neighbors
daughter, because I don't want her to think I'm nuts! And, no
she didn't explain why she didn't like the nightlight anymore.
I guess because it may have caused the closet doors to move
the way they did, and it made her babysitter (me) nervous!
Is there any way this could have been an electrical surge that
made the doors move that way and made the pictures fall off the
walls?? You said poltergeists are usually connected to older
children. The girl had two older brothers (probably about age
7 and 9) but only the 7 year old was home at the time and there
is no way he could have made the closet doors jump up and down
and back and forth the way they did. When I questioned him about
it, he didn't know what I was talking about. He really thought
I had lost it! Thanx in advance for any info.

1468.15 | Comments. | CADSYS::COOPER | Topher Cooper | Wed Jun 19 1991 12:26 | 27 |
| I can't think of a clear causal connection between plugging in the
night light and the door jumping around. The only thing I can think
of, and its a stretch, is that the night light introduced electrical
noise into the lines which through a motor (refrigerator compressor,
attic fan, washing machine, etc.) out of kilter, creating vibrations
which effected the door. Other conventional explanations is
coincidence (e.g., a water hammer in the pipes just happened to start
up then -- hey, the great Northeastern blackout occured on the instant
when I threw a wall switch at school which I wanted to know what it was
connected to), and a prearranged trick (which she is now too embarrased
to "own up to").
It is not clear that there is any distinction between a "poltergeist"
and unconscious PK. Poltergeists generally act like they were caused
by a specific person (usually, but not always, an adolescent), though
they seem, at least, to be unaware or only semiaware of being
"responsible". The person who is the "focus" of the phenomenon is
always present -- so unless there was someone under the bed there
are only two canidates here, you and her. Frankly, unless there
is evidence for other manifestations you are the better candidate
(by a slight amount -- sorry, I know that probably is a rather "spooky"
suggestion for you; don't worry, you'll have "grown out of it" if its
the case). There is some evidence that this was not a one time
phenomenon in the girl believing that she had something to show you --
though perhaps she just thought it looked interesting when plugged in.

1468.16 | VIBRATIONS...NO WAY! | GRANMA::JZARUDZKI | | Wed Jun 19 1991 12:57 | 26 |
| I don't think the closet doors moving was caused by any
type of vibrations, only because they didn't just vibrate
or move, they VIOLENTLY shook up and down and back and forth
3 or 4 inches off the track they were on, until they jumped
off the track. And I've been told that plasterboard (or what-
ever walls are made of) and wooden closet doors aren't conductors
of electricity. Is this true?? Unless we had an earthquake (which
is unlikely in Maryland, and my mother next door would have
noticed it also), I can't think of anything that would have made
the closet doors move that way and the pictures fall off the walls.
I thought it might be a trick, but she was only 4 or 5 years old
and there is no way she, nor her 2 brothers could have made those
doors move that violently! It could have been coincidence, but
what about the pictures? The man I spoke to also mentioned that
it could have been the little girl, or possibly me that made the
doors move. I don't think it was me. Why would I do something
to scare myself??? As a previous note was discussing the show
on T.V. about the Toys R Us ghost, could it have been a spirit
of someone who possibly came to an untimely death on the property
where the house sits now?? The house isn't old, it's only about
15 years old. I wish you could have seen the closet doors when
they acted the way they did. I can't explain it. They didn't
just vibrate, shake or rattle, they really jumped up and down
and back and forth! Oh well, somethings are best unsolved I
guess. That's what makes like so interesting. It's little
mystery's!

| Hi GRANMA::JZARUDZKI,
Very interesting story! I noticed that you said that while you were
in the room, all the pictures were still on the walls. How's this for
a couple of wild thoughts: you said the little girl was excited to
have you as her babysitter and maybe the door shaking was to show off
for you or impress you, instead it scared you and you left. And
sometime AFTER you left, all the pictures fell/were shaken off the
wall. Maybe the little girl was angry or upset that you left, and
consiously or unconsiously removing the pictures was her response to
her anger?
Anyway, did the girl's parents ask what had happened with the doors?
Did you tell them all that happened?

I just recently heard a ghost story that I thought was pretty neat.
It goes like this.
A recent tenant in an apartment told the landlord all about her having
met the landlord's daughter Karen. The tenant said that Karen had
stopped by a couple of times and they'd had a nice conversation at the
kitchen table. The landlord inquired as to the validity of her claims
but some of the information that she the tenant had had would only have
been available from family members.
The reason for the landlord's concern was ....
Karen had been shot dead by a former lover at the kitchen table over 15
years ago !

| Toys R Us Ghost
Just FYI, for people like myself who still read these old notes, is
located very close to the Santa Clara Digital site. Its in Cupertino
on the corner of the El Camino and Sunnyvale/Saratoga Road. The ghost
was not only troubled over the lost love but, if memory serves me
right, as this was over 8 years ago now, he was also quite stubborn.
The ghost busters had quite a time with him, trying to convince him
that he was, indeed, dead. He was also quite the prankster. He would
set toys in motion when no one but the manager was present. The
manager
would be going from the front of the store out to the back rooms when
a toy would roll up from behind him and strike him. Children would
be frightened by toys being pulled out of their hands. There was once
a picture taken by the local news of a toy in full rolling motion
propelled by this unseen entity heading strait for the camera. Some of
that may have been typical sensationalism. It was a story I followed
for quite a few months. It began when they opened the store and had
been going on for years before the ghost busters where finally called
in.
