| On Wednesday or Thursday one of the copter pilots that does traffic
reports commented that the full moon must be affecting the way people
were driving that night.
I usually notice drivers getting more aggressive a day or so before
the full moon.

| I cannot see how phases would affect people's behavior - at
least in the physical sense - as it is just sunlight striking the
lunar surface.
The Moon's relatively strong gravitational pull might affect
some chemical balances in the brain (my theory), but at the "full
Moon" phase, the Moon is no different distance or makeup-wise than
any other time. It is probably the mass-suggstion of full Moons
causing strange things which affect people.

Not necessarily. Full and New moons produce Spring tides (i.e.,
additive to solar tides), "half" moond produce neap tides (opposing
solar tides). This _might_ have a physiological effect.

Quick random thoughts:
Full moon occurs only when sun and moon in apposition (opposite sides
of earth). If gravitational difference in that near-alignment (alignment
exact only during total eclipse of moon) is sufficient to create major
tidal differences, what else can it create?
Relationship between gravity and electromagnetism still speculative but
nonetheless hotly debated in some quarters. Who knows what electromagnetism
can do to synaptic functioning? Synapsis appears to be electrochemical
process.
Many CSC customers snuffle and snort a lot on phone during full moon,
and probably have hair growing out of their sleeves...

| I commute about 45 minutes to and from work. A couple of years
ago my carpooler and I noted a decided difference in the driving
habits of those on the road with us - to a point where one of may
a remark to the effect that "it must be full moon" and didn't think
any more about it --- until aobut a month later we noticed the change
again and I happened to know that it _was_ a full moon. Since that
time I have been watching the way people drive on a regular basis
and very definitely drivers are more agressive, take more chances,
are less courteous, and more thoughtless beginning about 2 or 3
days before the full moon and tapering off very rapidly (1 day)
afterwards.
I won't propose an explanation of _why_ its true but it has been
consistant for as long as I have been observing it.

| RE: everybody
Maybe "we" are looking in the wrong place for an explaination.
On nights when I look up and see the full moon, sometimes I just
want to howl!
So, perhaps the effect isn't from the moon but rather from us seeing
it.
And, yes, this was a very strange full moon. Mix a full moon with
warmer than normal temps in the fall or winter and the psychie (sp?)
can just go nuts! I LOVE IT!!!!

mass suggestions from our society over many generations of belief
that the Moon affects human behavior.

Again, not that simple. There are many "moon related" examples
in society -- and out of it. My cats, for one, grow restless and
in the case of the Siamese, somewhat feisty, close to the full moon
-- and they're inside cats.
I'll wager that not one person in 20 is aware of the phase of the
moon unless they happen to be looking at it. If so, "societal
suggestion" wouldn't affect actions.

285.9 | Individual Differences to Keep in Mind | NATASH::BUTCHART | | Mon Jan 19 1987 10:47 | 75 |
| Some people who study themselves closely will notice a "full moon"
period very strongly one month, then notice next to nothing the
next. They will perhaps conclude that there's nothing to it and
chalk up their occasional "loonieness" to coincidence.
If one makes a detailed study of one's birthchart one can track
where the new and full moons will occur throughout the year. A
good ephemeris will give the degree and minute of the sign that
the lunations occur in. You can then check in your birthchart from
month to month to see - and this is what is important - if any
lunations are aspecting any of your natal planetary placements.
My experience is that the months (and sometimes years) when they
do not "touch" any of my natal planets by aspect, the effects of
both new and full moons are rather muted. But the months when my
natal planetary placements _are_ touched by a lunation are a different
story.
The aspect made to the planet by the lunation is interesting to
study. Conjunctions, when either the new or full moon actually
happens right on top of one the natal planetary placements, are
very powerful, especially if that planet aspects the natal moon.
Squares and oppositions to natal placements can produce, in my own
(admittedly limited) experience, the "looniest" behaviors. This
seems especially true of a full moon that squares a natal planet.
(Since the sun and moon are opposing each other, they will be
squaring the planet from two different directions. No wonder some
people get a trifle giddy some months.) Trines and sextiles are
traditionally believed to create lovely effects, but more often
(for me) simply mean that I sail through an otherwise difficult
time, often wondering why I have such suddenly developed such
psychological stamina.
The House in the birthchart that the new and full moon occurs in
tells you where the effects can occur most strongly. In addition,
the Houses in the chart that have the Signs Cancer and Leo on their
cusps will often feel repercussions too. Incidentally, when the
new moons occur in those signs (which they do in the summer) I
hear most people being conscious of and remarking on new moon effects.
In the winter, when the full moons occur in those signs (with the
Sun being in Capricorn or Aquarius) I hear more people remark on
and notice effects of the full moon.
On a personal front: This past month's lunation cycle had strong
effects, internal rather than external. My Sun is in Capricorn
and the full moon landed right opposite it, coinciding with the
solar return. It occurred in the 6th and 12th Houses that have to
with physical and emotional integration. Effects? I have enjoyed
(?) very intense dream states, especially last week, which seemed
bent on revealing which parts of myself were at war with each other.
I also achieved great insight into how those warring parts sabotaged
conscious will and intentions (Sun). I also became more health-
conscious (6th House) and began steps to clean up my act by developing
better habits (also a 6th House concern). And began learning a
new discipline to harness the power of the subconscious (12th House)
to assist the process. This after becoming extremely aware of how
that same subconscious tended to undermine efforts along that line
(internal dialogue runs along the lines of "this is what I know
I should do, (Sun in 6th) but this is what I feel I need" (Moon
in 12th)).
I also found myself having to concentrate hard on careful driving,
feeling at times as if I had only narrowly escaped an accident.
When I checked other planets that might have been "touched", that
Other turned out to be an inconjunct (150 degree aspect) to natal
Mars. Internal state and outward actions out of sync, so to speak.
Since Mars and Moon are in rough aspect in my natal chart, when
a lunation puts them in rough aspect I tend to notice conflicts
between inner needs and outer actions more than usual. One nice
effect though: transiting Uranus was inconjunct the full moon also
and sextile to Mars. Uranus rules my 7th House (relationships),
where Mars is natally placed and is transiting the 5th House (fun
and games). Some very active socializing has been occurring this past
week that I've been very "up" for. (But I let my husband drive.)

Ask anyone who works in or who has worked with medical patients
and you'll find a resounding YES to the question of whether or not
the full moon effects folks - nor would you hear them say it
was a positive effect. I have and that's definately been my experience.

| I have definitely noticed a difference in people's behavior
around the time of the full moon and, quite often, the new moon.
Personally, I find that I am quite a bit more outgoing, lighthearted,
and often downright silly around the time of the full moon. (I've
read many times that we Pisceans are more affected by such things
than most.)
What I find even more fascinating, however, is something I noticed
while in college. I worked in our Computer Center, "fetching" output
and answering questions, etc. Every so often, I would come in to
work and the questions I would be asked and the malfunctions of
the equipment would be numerous and really *off the wall*.
When this would happen, I'd usually remark, half serious, to the
operator that "weird things are happening, must be a full moon..."
Later in the day, I'd usually check the calendar and *sure enough!*
it would be a full moon. This never failed!
