197.4 | Saturn & Jupiter | NATASH::BUTCHART | | Tue Sep 02 1986 16:39 | 80 |
| After reading the base note and replies, I got curious and looked
up planetary positions in the ephemeris. Jupiter is in the sign
Pisces now and is in transiting square aspect to Saturn, which is
in Jupiter's own sign, Sagittarius. In addition, Mercury in its
own sign Virgo was squaring Neptune in Capricorn over the weekend.
As to what all this might mean, let's see: Jupiter and Saturn are
said to represent opposite energies. Jupiter represents expansion
and growth, Saturn represents crystallization and contraction.
The ancient astrologers did not believe them to be "on good terms"
with each other, even when in favorable aspect (like sextiles or
trines). My own experience says that they can be extremely powerful
in a good way when in favorable aspect to each other, but when they
are either in Square (like this weekend) or in Opposition they are
capable of producing considerable conflict. When the conflict takes
place on an internal level it sounds something like Bill Cosby's
story of how the coach used to get them all excited and hypered
before a game and then they all ran for the field and the locker
room door was locked. In other words, Jupiter wants to be free
and exhuberant high-flying and Saturn wants to bring Jupiter down
to earth.
On an external level, this can manifest as fights in relationships,
where the Juperterian partner is chafing at the bit, and the Saturn
partner wants to put on the brakes. If there is an imbalance
between freedom and responsibility it can result in relationships
ending. Saturn is also said to rule the skeletal structure. Broken
bones, you say? Jupiter also rules long distance travel and has
some rulership (with Uranus) of aviation. Plane crashes certainly
bring one down to earth.
I don't know about the other aviation accidents referred to in the
base note, but it certainly seems that the California crash was
a case of mixed signals. (Crashes of two planes close to an airport
usually are.) The Neptune-Mercury square seems to have a bearing on
that. Mercury rules communications and Neptune is about the mistiest
energy in the zodiac. Fortunately, the fog will not last long--the
transit is already passing off.
I totalled my car under a similar transit; I was hit edge-on in an
intersection by a drunk driver (Neptune is said to rule poisons,
including alchohol). Since I was also lost and exhausted and driving
at night, I'd call that a mutual mis-communication. We both blundered
into the intersection at the same time.
The mis-communications can also aggravate relationship problems,
as we all know. One office friend of mine had continuous fights
with her boyfriend until Monday, when they managed to sort through
the flotsam and begin to figure out what was going on between them.
They are also still together, partly because neither of them view
fighting as unnatural and because they genuinely love each other
and are going through the phase where you work things out. They
are greatly motivated to work it all out.
My weekend was great. We (well, my husband, anyway) chopped out
and rebuilt the sill beam in our foundation under the front door;
it had almost completely rotted away. And we went into town to
see the fireworks Saturday and had a nice dinner with friends on
Monday. I did have an encounter with my own soul that could have
been interpreted as traumatic, but came out fine because I took
the time to understand what was going on. And I bought some wonderful
stones on Saturday--a rose quartz, three azurite/chrysocolla cabs,
a humongous, beautiful quartz crystal that I swear, weighs a
pound.
A final, interesting detail to consider is that Saturn is
currently sitting in between Pluto and Neptune, which are 60
degrees apart in Scorpio and Capricorn, respecitvely. This makes
it a sensitive releaser for planetary placements opposite it in
Gemini, since a person with a planet in 3-5 degrees of Gemini, who
is now having Saturn opposing that place by transit, will get added
energy from both Pluto and Neptune. This might also "over-energize"
Saturn, and make the current Jupiter square that much more sensitive.
A very good time for inner journeying and finding out what is truly
real is my feeling, if you have such a transit happening in your
chart. You will be better able to concretely manifest (Saturn)
your inner power (Pluto) and spiritual, intuitive self (Neptune).
A magical time. Stay away from the chemical means, however.

As I was cutting the grass on labor day my tractor appeared to stall.
When I tried to start it I found that the engine would not turn
(budge). Turns out there was not a drop of oil in the crankcase
and the thing siezed up! What was strange is that I keep it well
maintained and I don't know where the oil went (no leaks, etc).
I lucked out, when it cooled down I was able to free it and get
it running again. Seems to be OK!
also,
My next door neighbor took his family for a trip to Walom park and
his he lost a head gasket (and head) on 495 on the way home. Wasn't
his lucky day either I guess.
All in all labor day wasn't bad, but I choose to remember Aug-23
as my unlucky day when I -
a. towed by boat to Quinsigamond and found I had transmission fluid
all over the undercarriage of my blazer, then -
b. hit a rock and destroyed my $90 prop in an area of the lake

c. On the way home hit the neighbors dog while driving down the
street.

Weekend. My flights were uneventful. It was a good convention
and I had a great time. I did a lot of "flying" since I stayed
at the Atlanta Marriot Marquis, which has a 50+ (53?) story atrium
and glass elevators. There were some elevator problems, but they
were due to continual overloading and idiots with cigarettes setting
off the smoke alarms (which causes the elevator to stop until reset)
-- par for the course at a large SF convention.
There were many opportunities for accidents, since convention
activities were held in two large hotels (the Marriot and a Hilton)
which were separted by a major artery. No one was injured, as of
the last convention newsletter (Monday morning).
The only "bad luck" was unseasonal rain -- something which I doubt
that the Atlanta natives considered ill-omened.

than cleaning. Then a friend showed up, unexpectedly, and asked
for help cleaning out her old apartment -- she was moving to a
new apartment, and her previous landlord was hassling her about
not cleaning the place up enough. She also mentioned that her
new place was, so far, without gas hookups.
Straightaway my boyfriend and I grabbed brooms, mops, a vacuum cleaner
and other instruments of destruction and went over to the apartment
to help clean. Following this, we grabbed an old Hibachi grill sitting
in our garage, some frozen shad, and bought some champaigne at a
local store. (This could have been a disaster by itself, since
they sent me in to buy, and I don't usually drink! But the store
clerk was happy to steer me right.) We brought a Walkman and some
teeny speakers plus a few tapes.
We had a great cookout, even if it was a very minimalist affair.
So what can I say? The variables (adding up to "good" or "bad"
or "weird" weekend) are obviously well hidden.

What you mention is the whole key to reading transits. The planetary
motions and aspects in and of themselves do not affect everyone
the same way, and this is because of the unique configuration of
each person's natal chart. Lunations, both new and full moons,
do seem to "stir people up", especially on an emotional level.
I have become aware of how often people in my office report more
intense dreams, better dream recall, etc., at the time of the
lunations. But still, lunations by themselves don't mean as much
as if you know what House they occur in each month and whether or
not they aspect any planets in your birth chart.

I also noticed an increased level of energy and what I would call
an "agitation" to everything. The new moon was uncomfortably close
to the small but powerful planet Pluto in the sign Scorpio (which
Pluto rules). Pluto, among other things involves the will, and power,
and the need to control. This makes for a highly intense and emotional
duo, and based on where it falls in your own natal chart would define
the area of your experience that was involved. In my own chart,
it occurred at the end of the sixth house (work, duty, everyday tasks)
and the beginning of the seventh house (partnerships, relationships, etc.)

197.35 | Did you know that Mercury has been retrograde sine the 1st? | NATASH::BUTCHART | | Tue Nov 11 1986 10:33 | 38 |
| On the 1st of November Mercury came to its station; on the 2nd it
went retrograde in Scorpio. I had occasion to look this up because
I was on a trip to England. The trip was wonderful but was plagued
by every mechanical failure imaginable, in the airplanes I flew,
the equipment in the classroom I was teaching in, cars, schedules.
These are all classic Mercury-retrograde symptoms, according to
mundane astrologers. If you are normally into swift
mental/communicative interactions, these periods (there are 3 during
a year) are bound to make you feel harassed and upset. If, on the
other hand, you are into more meditative, reflective and relaxed
activities you may actually enjoy the retrograde periods because
they are tailor-made for reflection and slow, gentle mental activity.
They are also times to revisit important decisions, to "rethink"
things and decide what to do when the planet goes direct again.
I found the information interesting about November being a peak
depression time. That is usually when we get one of the 3 Mercury
retrograde periods. I'll have to follow this one up. Thanks.
A word, too, about the sign that Mercury is in right now. Scorpio,
the sign of emotional power. A lot of people may have insights
into secret parts of themselves, into their complexes and obsessions,
their feelings about power, sexuality, death, et al., that can be
profoundly disturbing for some. This is enough to bring on _lots_
of depression and irritability. For those of you dealing with
irritable, depressed people at this time, keep in mind that what
the person is "going on about" is probably not the real issue.
It's coming from some place deep within, has roots that you don't
know about, and may have nothing to do with the real situation.
For those of you who are feeling depressed and miserable, look beneath
the surface for the cause. What you learn at this time about yourself
can ultimately be very healing.
Happy meditations, everybody. Just take it slow on the highways
(Mercury also rules your local transportation efforts).

197.36 | More about the Scorpio lunation | NATASH::BUTCHART | | Tue Nov 11 1986 11:53 | 45 |
| Carole's note about the new moon in Scorpio that was practically
conjunct Pluto has probably bolstered the effects of this particular
Mercury retrograde period for many people. As she pointed out,
depending on where these two events (the lunation & retrograde Mercury)
occur in each person's particular chart, each person will feel the
effects in a different place in their lives. To illustrate:
The lunation occurred in my 3rd House (communications, conscious
mental activity, local travel, day-to-day environment). This house
is also the house that Mercury is said to rule. So it makes sense
to me that this particular retrograde period is manifesting for
me in a more classic manner than is usual for me, affecting my
communications, schedules, computer equipment, mechanical devices,
et al. This has _also_ been a time of lovely emotional breakthroughs
and insights into the self and a feeling of "shedding my old skin".
For most of the year I feel I've been grunting and oofing (I wonder
if snakes grunt and oof when trying to get their skins off), now
I feel lighter and better. I am _also_ remembering dreams with
no effort at all (the 3rd house focus of the lunation is affecting
this, I think). The dreams are all primal, significant stuff from
the roots in my own character, no simple "daytime reruns". And
I've had some very nice re-connections with people who I'd either
lost touch or been on the outs with (the Moon & Pluto have to do
with our connections to others).
So my own instinct about this time is: roll with it. If you're
into meditative disciplines or relaxing, intimate connections with
others, this may be a wonderful time. If you are focused elsewhere,
the energy pulling you into yourself may feel unwelcome and produce
tension. Good general advice is: if something "isn't working"
right now, this is good time to really study why, and make appropriate
adjustments. This can go for work, relationships, physical health,
whatever. One of the harder lessons that Scorpio has to teach
some of us has to do with going with the flow instead of imposing
the will. Where Scorpio gets its bad rep is from people's efforts
to control the energy no matter what. The old adage about "courage
to change what I can, grace to accept what I cannot and wisdom to
know the difference" applies here. Now is good time to possibly
acquire a smattering of that wisdom.
(Geez, that rambled on. If anyone has taken offense at anything
I've said, please accept my apologies. I was hoping to help and
the wish was sincere.)

Larry
|
197.38 | What they did | NATASH::BUTCHART | | Tue Nov 11 1986 13:45 | 24 |
| They usually ascribed all the Plutonian traits (as well as Uranian
and Neptunian traits) in a person's character to Saturn. Poor old
Cronos. His rep took quite a beating for many ages before the other
outer planets were discovered and the psychological principals they
represent were separated from what we used to call Destiny, Karma
and Just Plain Bad Luck.
Uranus, Neptune & Pluto are said to "rule" the following signs:
Uranus Aquarius traditional ruler: Saturn
Neptune Pisces traditional ruler: Jupiter
Pluto Scorpio traditional ruler: Mars
Some modern astrologers still consider these traditional rulerships
of the above signs when reading a person's chart. Certain authors
hold, for instance, that since Mars is what is called a "personal"
planet that it will have a more "personal" effect on someone than
Pluto, which is considered by some to be a "generational" planet.
For more discussions on Neptune & Pluto and their generational vs.
personal influence, there's another note in this file, the number
of which escapes me at the moment. I'll look it up.

I remember when I was 5 years old, it was Labor day weekend and we (my
family and I) were at an uncle's house for the day. Things were very
funny that day, as small as I was I still remember. My oldest brother,
two cousins and a friend of theirs were leaving the party to drive to
Athol. I had an intense crush on my cousin (who was 18 and extremely
good looking) and pleaded with them to let me go along. My cousin
asked my mother and she said no. I cried. They left and I was sent to
bed. I awoke approximately 1 hr. later with the most horrible pains
in my left leg, like it had been severed.
It seemed that night my brother, my cousin (the one I was fond of)
and the boy from Athol had been killed when the car hit a tree in
Berlin. I found out later that my brother had been mutilated in the
accident. I really hate Labor day weekend, since then.
