| There seems to be some indication that certain abilities are inherited
(the child "has the gift" in some cultures) and others don't. But let's
assume that at least some do:
Then, whether it's Voduoun, ceremonial magic, skrying, dowsing, radiasthesia,
onieromancy, or the like, the ability to funnel one's thoughts seems to be
critical. Note that some techniques require ecstatic conditions, which is
a good way of "shutting out" most of the world. Indeed, hypnosis has been
defined as total concentration on an object to the *conscious* exclusion of
all else.
Other side of the coin: because some phenomena require virtually zero
distractions to work, they may be difficult to replicate, even in laboratory
conditions (i.e., the emotional state of the subject would impinge on the
physical conditions). This is what makes the thing so difficult to investi-
gate systematically.
Edge of the coin: there are charlatans who use exactly the above argument
to explain why their attempts to fake phenomena require less than controlled
conditions.

Are "phychic" phenomena related? :^)

in .0, even though I spelled it right when I posted it. :) :)

They're distractors. Isn't that what this note is about?

Different disciplines. "skrying" is what some people do with crystal
balls, magic mirrors, and the like.
"Radiasthesia" is a method of using a small pendulum as a dowsing
tool or other psychic detector.
"Onieromancy" is using dreams as a means of foretelling the future.

| I should hope we all won't get unduly technical herein about
'distraction' when, in fact, 'attention' is what all this is
'about' is it not? Distraction is really-only a methodical
'luring of attention' from 'the screen before us' (daily).
This can all be exhaustively restated in Sanskrit terms as
some of us already know, but isn't it much more friendly to
use commonly-spoken terms in 'quotes' to say the same thing?

| Actually, you're not really "off the wall". In order to achieve
psychic attunement, one has to learn to "turn off" the objective
mind. In other words, the objective mind tends to not want to
give way to the "inner mind", so we have to sort of "coax" it
[the objective self] to "trust" the "inner self". We humans
certainly are funny little creatures, aren't we ?
As I replied to the "TAROT" topic, the Tarot is perhaps one method
of doing this, the proverbial crystal ball another method.
General relaxtion with incense, music to meditate by, whatever,
is as good as any other method.
The proper usage and study of vowel sounds (and mantras) is also
effective.
