409.1 | My Picks | 8942::WOESTEHOFF | Save Waldo Canyon | Tue Nov 06 1990 15:09 | 18 |

1. Colorado
2. Washington
3. Iowa
4. Notre Dame
5. Florida
6. Miami
7. Nebraska
8. Georgia Tech
9. Virginia
10. Tennesse
Comments - Sorry, but I can't include a team (Houston) which is on probation
and hasn't played any tough opponents. If they beat Texas, they'll probably
crack my top 10.

409.7 | | BSS::JCOTANCH | CU: Back-to-Back Big 8 Champs | Tue Nov 06 1990 17:49 | 22 |
| 1. Houston - Undefeated & untied in major conference; winning convincingly
2. Colorado - Has played 5 of AP's top 15 with only 1 loss
3. Washington - Playing very good with only loss to CU
4. Tennessee - 1 tie with CU & 1 tie at Auburn shouldn't hurt them
5. Florida - Has played only 1 bad half of football; plays in tough SEC
6. Texas - Beat OU, won at Penn St, played CU tough(only loss)
7. Notre Dame- Lost AT HOME to Stan, outplayed by Mich & Mich St;
8. Miami - Nation's best team right now IMO, but 2 losses puts them low
9. Iowa - Only loss at Miami
10. Ga Tech- Tied a weak team, plays in weak conference
Now I am ranking these teams according to their records, who they've
lost to and who they've beat. In other words, I'm not ranking teams
according to who I think is the best, but on how they've performed
against their competition and who their competition is. And I think
that is how AP ranks teams for the most part.
If I were to rank teams according to who I think is the best, 2nd best,
etc., I wouldn't pay much attention to records and my rankings would be
totally different.

| 1.N.D. I don't think they'll be here next week, UT is to big in the
O.L. if they do beat UT they will be #1 on Jan. 22nd
2.Washington: Best team in country now, lost to CU early, If N.D. loses
somewhere Washington and Iowa will play for #1 in the Rose Bowl and
the Huskers will be #1.
3. Colorado: They have a loss and a tie, but the tough schedule helps
them now, very GUTSY team, will lose in Orange bowl to either N.D. or
Miami.
4. Iowa: Quietly playing very sound and will be playing for the
title on New Years Day.
5: Houston: Undefeated with the run and shoot, really haven't played
anyone yet, BUT if they beat Texas at Austin, they will end up #1
in UPI poll, maybe mine also.
6:Miami: Strange they're this low, but two losses, can probably beat
any team at home or on neutral field.
7:Tennesse: Could move up dramatically with win over N.D. which they
probably wil, O.L. to big N.D.
8: Auburn: No shot at #1 but still can make Sugar Bowl.
9: Georgia Tech: Only blemish is a tie, but I don't think they are
that good a team stacked up against reat of top 10, I thought the
same with Virginia.
10: Texas: Only loss was to Colorado and it was a good game, if Texas
beats Houston saturday they can move up to top 5.

How can you argue strength of schedule when their PR department

| Curious how the `Best team in the country' (someone described Miami this
way) can have two losses.
Also.. how someone can rate Miami 4th, and call Fla St out of the
running... they both have two losses.
Two losses should not be allowed to win the Mythical, and any team that
still does have a shot at number one would be idiots to agree to play
Miami in a Bowl. Beating them wouldn't really improve your own chances
that much (you would be beating a team that `now' has three losses), and
losing to them would destroy your chances for #1.
I didn't rank Houston, because I don't think probation teams are in the
running. They can't play in a bowl, so they can't win the Mythical, so
they shouldn't be ranked. It just confuses things.

Beating Miami in the Orange Bowl when they are ranked 3rd or 4th would
actually be very impressive.

This actually brings up a good point, but no rules were layed down in
our poll about ranking a team on probation, so they should be assumed
eligible for the time being.

They weren't goofy votes. I was 100% serious. I'm so sick and
tired of all this AP, UPI, USA Today, Las Vegas, Atlantic City
poll sh_t....
They should have a real playoff system and determine things in
a manly like fashion. Each team should gird its loins and
meet on the field of play for 60 minutes of football, instead
of having a bunch of know-it-all, pansy-assed sportswriters
see who politics the best for a poll spot...

How can a playoff system work? If you go with a 2 team playoff who
gets invited (Wash, ND, Colorado)? If you go with a 4 team playoff
who gets invited (Wash, ND, Colorado, [Miami, Georgia Tech, Iowa])?
go with at six team playoff who do you invite?
A playoff will leave somebody out, just like the polls do.

That sounds fair, but college players need December off from
football to study and take final exams. The fact that every
year theres an argument about who's number 1, tells me the
current system is working. My "team is better than yours"
type arguments are great.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Yes, and Notre Dame lost to Stanford. So, if that's so important,
why don't you have Stanford rated above ND?
My problem with many of you having Colo #1 is that Colo has lost twice
(only one shows up, though), tied once, squeaked by the Huskies when
a butter-fingered receiver dropped a pass in the end zone, and barely
beat a Stanford team which was crushed by Washington. Washington, on
the other hand, has run away with every Pac-10 game.
Claybone, I salute your valiant attempt at objectivity 8^).

In fairness, completing the comparison, "...but squeaked by
non-conference opponents San Jose St. and Purdue, and lost to
Colorado."
I honestly believe that head-to-head Colorado-Washington matchup will
weigh heavily on the voters' minds if both teams win their bowl games,
especially if Colorado does so against a once-beaten Notre Dame or even
a twice-beaten Miami. Even if it is convoluted, the voters have pulled
the famed double-switch with teams not previously at #1 in the past
after the bowl-day dust has cleared, USC over Alabama in the 1978 UPI
poll coming immediately to mind.

When it comes to competent game day coaches, I'd rate McCartney just

I think thy're full of crap.
Two weeks ago Virginia was a 97+
They're still a 94
I'm supposed to believe that Virginia can beat:
Notre Dame, Iowa, Florida, Tennessee, Houston, Florida State, BYU,
Nebraska????????
Nope!
Miami has a higher power rating than the two teams that beat em like a

Gimme a break!
Okay... for you fans who want the benefit of my unerring
prognostications (or who just want to earn some money betting my picks):
Michigan won't cover the 12 pts against Illinois (and might lose).
Missouri upsets Iowa State
Florida doesn't cover the 19 pts against Georgia (and might lose)
Texas upsets Houston
UCLA upsets Washington
Iowa beats Ohio State
Notre Dame upsets Virginia
Colorado doesn't cover the 28 pts against Okie State (but wins)
Wyoming upsets BYU

| Gettin started with next week's number 1:
1. Notre Dame - biggest win last week and on the road. They scored when
they needed and made enough big defensive plays to clinch it.
2. Colorado - can't get much credit for beating Oklahoma St (just look at
the Cowboys' record). May face ND in the Orange Bowl.
3. Miami - picked a good week to rest and watch a lot of the top 10 lose.
4. Florida - Best team on probation, this year.
5. Florida St - why do they play so well after they've blown No. 1?
6. Michigan - even though it took 5 FGs to beat Illinois.
7. Ga Tech - I guess winning with 2 FGs is better than losing.
8. Nebraska - looking like their mad that they lost.
9. Texas - played one of the better games this year in beating Houston.
10. Virginia - because a bunch of those above them lost.

| No doubt about it, Notre Dame is #1. They went into the dread
Big Orange Neyland and prevailed where a_intimidated Florida
(a team many of you jokers now rate in the top five) embarrassed
itself and anybody unfortunate enough to have witnessed them there.
Crazy thing about these polls, the *sequence* seems as important
as the substance, or the lack thereof: Those who lost most recently
are ranked most lowly, with near total disregard for level of
competition (as if the strength of opponent has little or nothing
to do with outcome against opponent what a geeky joke :^) This is
how we end up gagging on insanities like "Florida, toughest team in
the nation." Ha ha haa..
Tell it: Notre Dame plays a schedule that is so manly that it would
make Richard Roundtree squeal in contralto. They take and pass the
test almost weekly. Ditto for the likes of Colorado, Michigan,
Michigan State, Penn State, etc.
Instead, on the effeminate side, we end up with the teams who avoid
comp on top as the teams willing to belly up to the challenge
inevitably pay the price.

Forget Virginia and Georgia Tech. Houston is the most overrated team
of the year. I honestly haven't seen a team this year with so many
fat, out-of-shape players as I saw on the field and along the sidelines
for Houston Saturday night. James Hadnot and company just blew
through their defensive front at will, they played poor pass defense
(which was expected), and poor Klingler had to deal with a damn jailbreak
every time he dropped back to pass. The way Houston has run it up on
lesser opponents the past two years, I couldn't feel a bit sorry for
them, either (and even down 45-24 they couldn't resist doing a little
end-zone touchdown boogie... incredible.)
I agree with you on Florida, T. People are too concerned with what
has happened in the last two weeks, when teams are always going to be
up and down. I felt this was the case with Washington, too. It's the
long haul that counts. (Look for Florida St. to beat Florida in their
big rivalry at Tallahassee on Dec. 1.)
Speaking of which, Miami has set themselves up nicely for a long-shot
backdoor job, and I don't believe they deserve it. In spite of maybe
the best talent in the country, Miami has not come through in the two
tough games they've had to play under hostile conditions on the road,
yet they got the losses out of the way early enough to bounce back to
#3 with three *easy* games remaining. If ND drops one of their last
two and then knocks off Colorado in the Orange, we could see Miami as
national champs with a win over Texas in the Cotton, when both by

| >6. Indiana (made it to no 22 but couldn't...)
No way. The ambitious but undermanned Hoosiers deserved their
single week in the top 25 based on their thrashing of Mizzou
and tying of the Buckeyes. Now that their puny defensive line
has been exposed for the massive weakness that it is they are
rated deservedly at thritysomething - even though with a new QB
they're a better team now than ever.
Also, a cruddy team being ranked briefly in at 22 is quite different
from being ranked #1 or in the top 3, as all on my list were, right?
But the Hoosiers are properly ranked cuz they played some comp.
As I said, I rate Tech at about #18, and Virgina in the low 20s,
but they'll never be bumped cuz they don't play Division I-A comp
to speak of.

| Thrashing Mizzou has become a midwestern tradition. Even Iowa State beat
them (TCU, etc.) A Very good margin of victory for Indiana, I'll grant
you.
Tying Ohio State was a_underachievement. At the time, for Indiana. Now,
for Ohio State.
But hey, in the end, after Jan 2, we'll see who beats who. Virginia will
play the SEC champ and anyone who wants can rag on the results. Georgia
Tech will play Nebraska and again, have at it.
For some teams, we don't need to wait until Jan to see if their
overrated. Iowa and Washington, for instance. And they're headed to the
RO$E BOWL.

4. Florida- Playing real good ball, a sound team (coach of the 90's)
5. BYU- haven't had a tough schedule but they beat Miami (convincely)
6. Miami- still one of the most dangerous teams.
7. Nebraska- can still finish with high rating if it beats GTU in

play in a weak conference, but here is a major college team with a good
football tradition (which has a fairly good impact on AP voters) and
only 1 loss. They played CU very tough, won at Penn State, destroyed
Houston, and beat OU, despite the fact they were outplayed by the

Apparently, this one had a wild finish...
With Cal ahead 25-18, Stanford score a TD and go for a two-point
conversion and fail. Score 25-24. 12 seconds on the clock. Cal fans
invade the field in celebration. Refs call a delay of game penalty
(15 yards) on Cal and so Stanford kick off from the half way line.
Stanford recover onside kick at Cal's 37-yd line with time for ONE
play. Stanford throw Hail-Mary pass incomplete.....BUT there is a
flag!! Roughing the passer (15 yds and an automatic first down) but
there is no time on the clock. But remember the game can't end on a
penalty, so Stanford kick a field goal from the 22 yd line. 27-25
California must be a fun place to watch a football game....first the
infamous band play and now this!!

After they lost their second "tough" ACC game to Georgia Tech, Clemson
has beat NC State (24-17), Wake Forest (24-6), Carolina (20-3), and
South Carolina (24-15). I don't think that stacks up against

Argh!!! Go wash your mouth out with soap, Glenn!
I'll take Carnegie-Mellon all the way!
The reason I asked about Clemson is that I sat down to do my top 10 and
I just couldn't decide. So I decided to go by record. I saw Clemson
sitting there with a 9-2 mark and had trouble ignoring them considering
all the other teams with two losses.
In my opinion, there is just no fair way to rank anyone past the 3rd
slot. And I still have trouble ranking Colorado in there because
Missouri beat them.
So far I've got Georgia Tech at #1, Texas at #2, and BYU at #3. After
that, I'm clueless.

Not me, Dan'l. They're "playing great right now" cuz right now
they're playing a pansy schedule, and through the year will only
have played the unbelievably overrated Virgina and, ugh, now Ga.
Tech who in turn also took care not to play anybody outside their
conference which is a fifth rate grid conference to begin with.

count. It do:

I had a very hard time doing that, and almost went in the reverse.
Last year, both teams only had one loss, and it made it that much
easier to make that decision. Also, last year, I feel Miami stomped
all over ND, while this year it wasn't such a one-sided display by ND.
As I've said all along, I felt the loss to an unranked team, at home,
is a particularly damning piece of evidence. I'd say Miami's loss to
BYU and ND's loss to Penn St. are similar in nature, other than I take
more points off ND because it just happened. I'd say Miami's loss to
ND at ND is nothing to be ashamed of, but the Standford game is. I
give ND points for playing a tougher schedule, but perhaps not as much
as you think I should, because Miami hasn't chosen to go the way of
cupcakes, something you've falsely implied in the past, rather their
chances of attracting a good schedule are slim because teams like ND
are afraid to play them.
>Guess it only counts when it suits your needs..
Perhaps you should give me the opportunity to reply before you make a
false judgement.

| Dan,
Miami is shrewd, they KNOW that voters tend to look at 'what's happened
lately'. So in their quest for a national title, they schedule
Bye, Boston College and Syracuse - all unranked, cannon fodder teams
(especially that powerhouse BYE, which is on their schedule every
year) - whilst ND played Tenn., Penn State, and USC - hardly a
'cupcake' schedule.
A loss early is the same as a loss late - but the brain dead voters
are too dumb to realize that. At best, both Miami and ND should
be tied in the rankings, and neither should have a chance at the
mythical.
I'll bet that unless COlorado romps over ND in the Orange, that
the whining from Miami will be amazing.

| JD, JD, JD... I am ashamed of you. After all these years in
this conference you still haven't grasped the concept of a_excellent
loss! Miami deserves to be ranked ahead of Notre Dame and damn well
deserves a #2 ranking because of their excellent losses. The first
excellent loss was in BYU. Not only was it a loss on the road, which
in itself qualifies it as a_excellent loss, but in that thin mountain
air, well what can you expect? Their second excellent loss was against
Notre Dame. Not only was that a_excellent loss because it was on the
road, it was a_thigh_shuddering_excellent loss because we know how Miami
always gets jobbed beneath the shadow of Touchdown Jesus.
Now both of Notre Dame's losses can't even be considered as
excellent losses because first they were at home and second Notre
Dame never qualifies for excellent losses. Why? Because I said so!
When will you ever learn it's not who you beat that counts, it's who
you lose to. Excellent losses are what separates the men from the
boys. Understand?

Who has Tech played this year? Only two teams who are questionable
members of the Top20 club, neither of whom have proved themselves
against quality nonconference competition.
Tech is playing one a the weakest schedules in Div I history, and if
they somehow win the Mythical even BYU and ClemSuck will blush and
finally understand that en masse brain transplants are needed for the
nation's sportswriters so that they might have the requisite mental
firepower to account for strength of schedule.
Even if Tech *does* beat Nebraska they don't deserve the Mythical. It
should instead go to one a the many teams who put it on the line several
times during the year instead a just oncet.

BYU's schedule is weak, but I would say Ga Tech's is weaker. BYU has
played 5 bowl teams: they beat one of the nation's top teams in Miami,
destroyed 3 bowl teams (CSU, Wyoming, AF), and lost on the road to a
pretty decent Oregon team. Meanwhile, Tech barely beat 2 pretty
good (but certainly not great) teams in Virginia and Clemson, and they
tied a mediocre North Carolina team. I don't recall Tech playing
anyone even halfway decent outside the ACC. Can someone confirm this?

Colorado State, Wyoming, and Air Force are bowl teams in name only.
They're going to the bowls based on records compiled from the WAC and
below (Air Force will only go because of a commitment from the Liberty
Bowl to a service academy). The Miami win remains BYU's one and only
claim to fame, and the loss to a mediocre 8-3 Oregon team (their 6-3
defeat of pathetic Oregon State last week was their first road victory
of the season) hurts pretty badly.
Georgia Tech's schedule is tougher, which the Sagarin strength of
schedule confirms. It's still weak, but it's tougher than BYU's. If
you want to count bowl teams, Tech has also faced three definite and
two potential bowlers-- Virginia, Clemson, NC State, No. Carolina
and So. Carolina. That's more teams than the ACC deserves to send
(NC State is 4-5 against 1-A teams; Carolina is 5-4-1 against the
same), but it's still stronger competition than those WAC teams BYU
faced. Georgia Tech also finishes up with a weak but young and
potentially dangerous Georgia team in their intrastate rivalry on
December 1.
Believe it or not, Georgia Tech had the toughest schedule this year of
all the ACC bowlers, behind only Maryland's in the entire conference.
Maryland should have been considered for the bowls before NC State or
Carolina, in my opinion, but they saved their best effort for last
after the bowls had already pretty much made up their minds.

Agreed. I felt the same way about Florida State last year. Since
there ain't no playoffs, the playoffs *are* those tough regular season
games that you have to win, and everyone knows that going in. Miami
lost their "playoff" games. Period. And so has everyone else with two
losses this year, and some of the teams with only one loss in as many
tough games, too, as far as I'm concerned.

should have been national champs last year, are you?

I still feel that ND played a tougher schedule than Miami last year,

Go for head to head comp. If it comes down to Miami vs ND for #1

based on head to head comp. In the same vein,to show others that I

I'm not accusing you of being hypocritical. I admit when it comes

why in note .101 you have ND #1, Colo. #2, and Miami #3, then ND loses
and Miami wins this past weekend. In note .171 ND drops to #6, and Miami
drops to #7. I don't understand how Miami can drop 4 notches when they win.
If head to head counts for so much Penn St should be ahead of ND because
they both have the same record.

| Chuck,
You know as I look back,it does seem inconsistent. And ,it is.
I have a hard time reconciling who is the best team in order 1 to 10
because of different strength of schedule. If you go by simple
won-lost records, then Ga. Tech,Houston,Fla.Nebraska would all be
rated in the top 5 and we all know that ain't true. You caught me
playing the old AP/UPI position game(hopefully keeping ND up there
for contention, while sub or unconsciously keeping Miami one step
behind, and not giving Penn St. enough credit). Good points all.
So why don't I readjust my thinking cap and put down exactly who
I think are the ten best teams in the country record be damned.
1.Colorado
2.Notre Dame
3.Miami
4.Washington
5.Penn State
6.Florida

for the last 4-5 or so weeks. Talk about dropping a few spots!

| Okay... This week's rankings are based on relative strength, and the
hell with the Won/Loss. Well, not totally. Tennessee with 7-2-2 may be
better than the 8., 9., 10. picks, but that's just too many losses and
ties. Mississippi at 9-2 might also deserve a shot at the Top Ten, but I
honestly feel any of my listed teams could beat them. Also, Penn State
or Nebraska might be better than Georgia Tech, but an unbeaten season
deserves SOME credit. Louisville has a great record, too, but there just
wasn't room.

Texas and N.D. beats CU they win the title.

The Florida teams are over-rated. Florida is getting noticed because they
recently beat Auburn big. What is being over looked is their 45-3 drubbing
by Tennessee. Florida State was beaten by that same Auburn team. Miami's
win over FSU boosted them in the ratings, but again, just who has FSU beaten?

no argument here, enjoy this win coz there aint a whole lot else to
cheer about, ya'll should have had the sec hands down (given that the
gators cant 'officially' win it), imo its the vols that were overrated.
The gators have the best d in the nation and are easily the best team
in the sec. If we had the kind of lethal wr's that you have we'd be
#1, Steve Spurrier has got to be the coach of the year in college ball.
Florida is by far the best state for college football, i think miami,
fsu and florida all deserve their place in the top 10.

The best defense in the the nation doesn't let a team score 45 points
on them no matter who it is and until you beat the Vols there is know
way you can claim to be the best team. Losing to a team 45-3 and your
are saying that Florida is a better team, no way. I also do not see
Spurrier winning the COY over Bobby Ross of Ga. Tech. I am glad that
Spurrier is at Florida because he only makes the SEC stronger, which
brings more attention to the conference.

| 1. Colorado - Tough scheudle, good record. However, I'm not thrilled
with them.
2. Georgia Tech - ACC is slightly underrated, and Tech is a solid team.
3. Florida - SEC is the best conference in the country. Only one loss
says a lot (albeit a blowout)
4. Miami - Lost their two toughest games.
5. Texas - Lucky to play their best game on ESPN, but I'm not impressed
with their offense on a week-in, week-out basis.
6. Notre Dame - I hate 'em, but they play good teams, and have lost
just twice - to two weaker teams.
7. Tennesee - They'd be #1 if they had beaten ND.
8. Penn State - A decent team, but they'd get plastered in a playoff.
9. BYU - Gimme a break. Half of the WAC plays a 1-AA caliber ball. BYU
won't even play a tough bowl opponent (as usual).
10. Houston - Still just one loss, but boy was it a big one. The ASU
game may go a little ways in proving whether or not the UT game was a
fluke.
Others :
Nebraska - Got waxed by the only tough opponents on the scheudle.
Forget it.
Virginia - Good team, but not Top 5. :-( As for the Tech game, Bob hunt
warned us, besides UVa without Moore, is like ND without the Rocket -
times 10.
Virgina Tech - Hell, they've knocked off 4 bowl teams this year. Not
bad.

Rank DECpoll Team Record Games Behind Points
1. (1) Colorado 4-1-1 --- 172
tie (4) Notre Dame 5-2 --- 125
3. (3) Texas 3-1 .50 154
4. (2) Georgia Tech 2-0-1 *1 .75 167

tie (10) Michigan 2-3 2 13
*1 Tie with NC counts as 0 win, .5 loss
Given 1 win for beating UVA with Shawn Moore,
record of 1-0-1 would still put them fourth with 1.25 GB
*2 Tie with Colorado worth .5 win, .5 loss
Tie with Auburn worth 0 win, .5 loss
All other teams were more than 2 games behind.

I am an Irish fan and I think they'll bury the Buffs again, but I
do not think anyone can rate them any lower than 3rd,considering
they played THE toughest schedule in the country...these top 20
teams Mich,Mich ST,Miami,Penn ST,Tennessee,USC,along with a bowl
team the Air Force..thats enough said..If the Irish blowout the
Buffs on Jan 1 they will definitely win the mythical National
Title.

Air Force is not a top 20 team. The only reason they are a bowl
team is the tie the liberty bowl has to the Armed services academy.
Air Force happened to beat army and navy. Notre Dame has lost to
both Stanford and Penn State. Only one of those teams is a top
twenty team. I really believe that this is the year for the Buffs.
I think they will dominate the Irish on New Years day.

> I am an Irish fan and I think they'll bury the Buffs again
WHOA!!! Hold on a minute here. Bury the Buffs again?!? You must
be referring to the home-and-home series these 2 teams played in '82
and '83 and not last year's Orange Bowl. To revive your memory, CU
moved up and down the field on ND in the first half of last year's
Orange Bowl. Bieniemy's fumble and the TD he scored that the refs
claim wasn't a TD, plus CU's inability to convert twice inside the
Irish 5-yard line are the only reasons CU wasn't up 17-zip or even
21-zip at the half. Now the bottom line is ND won the game, but my
point here is that by no means did they 'bury the Buffs.' The final
score was only a 15-point difference, and ND's last TD came in the
closing minutes.
> ..If the Irish blowout the
> Buffs on Jan 1 they will definitely win the mythical National
> Title.
Wrong. If ND and Georgia Tech both win, the pollsters can't honestly
deny the Jackets the mythical with their undefeated season and current
ranking of #2. If ND and Texas win and GT loses, the pollsters can't
honestly deny the Horns the title. But if ND wins and GT and Texas
loses, I think the pollsters will give the title to their darlings.
The only exception here might be if Miami wins very big over Texas and
ND barely wins, the Canes might get it. With this being the case, I
must resort to rooting against the Canes on New Year's Day just in case the
Buffs don't come thru in the Orange Bowl. Can you guys imagine what a
travesty it would be if a team wins the mythical even though they lost
a game on their home field in the middle of November? ND shouldn't
even have a prayer of winning the mythical right now, and I admit that
Miami shouldn't either.

| Joe,
Does anyone ever lose to the Irish, or is it always the refs fault?
Now it's the refs faults for them beating CU last year. It used
to be the whining about the Miami game. Sheesh.
I do agree on one thing, ND nor Miami deserve the title this year,
no matter what happens on Jan. 1. If CU falters then G.T. or Texas
should get it.
I'm sure that if CU and Texas lose, and G.T. wins the Mythical,
that the whinig from both Miami and South Bend will be unbearable.
Big difference will be I'll hear it from both cities, you'll hear
it only from South Bend.

409.259 | Georgia Tech Scandal | MUSKIE::SHAUGHNESSY | a Worthy pregame sandwich, sir | Mon Dec 10 1990 10:14 | 17 |
| The skeery thing about this year is that Georgia Tech is positioned
to win a 100% undeserved Mythical.
Who dey played? They barely beat a_unranked Virginia team which
ain't exackally a_inspiration, they managed to beat a Clemson team
which ain't too hot and oh-by-the-way nobody knows how good they
are either cuz they only played one lousy ranked team themselves
(Tech).
After that, zip.
This is a way to choose a Champion? I would submit that there should
be a rule instituted whereby the Mythical should only be allowed to
go to a squad that played a minimum of 3 ranked teams during the
regular season.
