| | Evans won't go to Japan and I'm not sure where else he may go. His
family is a very large priority to him and his two oldest children have
been chronically ill for most of their lives. At least one of them has
Elephant Man's disease. A major attraction of the Boston area for
Evans, and a reason why he lives here year round, is the outstanding
medical care in the Boston area and the relationship the family has
built up with the physicians taking care of his children.

If he goes anywhere, it won't be far away and it certainly won't be
    Japan.

| | re .13

Agreed. That's why I think Baltimore will have the best shot at Evans.
California should be the front runner, but the proximity to his family
    is a big factor.

I think Evans would be an asset to the O's, but two reasons I think it
    not very likely to happen:

O's really didn't go into the free agent market last year, and have
shown no indications that they will do so this year.

Big glut of OF/1B/DH types (although Dewey, even at this stage of
his career, is still more productive than many of them).

| | Won't be Detroit unless there's a trade first. I think there's a
chance Trammell may go to DH with Fryman becoming the SS.

Toledo (Detroit-AAA) could use him, but I think he may show up
    in Oakland or Baltimore.

| 397.18 | It would be a bad move for the O's | WORDY::NAZZARO | Eight lbs of stupid in a 5 lb bag | Fri Oct 26 1990 13:45 | 20 |
| | Does someone in here honestly think Evans will be more productive
than Sam Horn nexted season? Or Joe Orsulak? Or Randy Milligan?
(Those are the three people I see as potential Oriole DHs in 1991.)

Evans will be 39 1/2 in April. He can't bend over to field a grounder,
so he HAS to DH. He hit .249 with 13 HR and 63 RBI in 123 gamesd and
445 AB in 1990. Here's how he compares to Horn, Orsulak, and Milligan:

G AB HITS HR RBI AVE
    Evans	123 445 111 13 63 .249
    Horn 79 246 61 14 45 .248
    Orsulak 124 413 111 11 57 .269
    Milligan 109 362 96 20 60 .265

Each of the three Orioles is at least ten years younger, and was more
productive with fewer at bats. Taking up a roster spot with Evans
would only hinder the development of a young player like Horn, Sqgui,
    or Gomez.

| | Some one asked will they share a cab?

I know that Fisk thinks very highly of Evans and if anyone caught the
last game of the regualar series you might have seen the two of them
in a" hug around the neck good-bye" in the last inning of the game.
Fisk told me he hoped that some one had a picture of it, he had a lot of
nice things to say about Evans, including how much respect he has for
the way Evans plays even though he has the burden of his kids being
very sick. Said the same about Stanley. Fisk is a class act and I think
he'd love to have Evans on the White Sox.
If anyone did get a photo of the two of them, let me know. No
telling what he might offer for a copy of it.
