390.0. "PATRIOTS FOLD FILE" by AIMHI::CONNOR () Fri Oct 19 1990 11:22

We had so much fun and great response to the fold file
for the Red Sox that I thought it might be interesting
to start the Patriots fold file now and save us the time
come January. If you all disagree Mr. M can delete or move.

FIVE TURNOVERS in the first half and a net gain of 3 points
this is terrible,I'm ashamed I even stayed up and watched.
Mark Wilson is a disgrace to pro football, yes the boys dropped
a few but he is not a leader.
And Rod Rust should stick to Def. coord.

The concept of the fold file only works with the Red Sox. It becomes a
repository for all the negative karma that results when they're in
first place, the theory being that if all the negative karma ends up
here, it won't affect the Red Sox - or something like that.

Be that as it may ... it doesn't really matter who the QB is but I
agree it is time to throw Hodson in there and find out if he can play
or not. Flutie won't make a damn bit of difference in attendance with
this team, because attendance is still going to be poor. Besides, he
has a multi-year contract with British Columbia, so he couldn't move
unless we bought the contract out.

I agree with the notion that in order to fold, you have to have been
somoewhere first. Perhaps this should be renamed the Patriots march
to the #1 Draft Pick. It seems inevitable. Russell Maryland would
look great in the Patriots defensive line. Tim Goad is average at best
and would be a fine back-up, and Maryland could dominate the middle.

I thought I heard somewhere recently that if Baltimore were to get
another NFL team, the new team would get the rights to the name "Colts"
and the Colts logo, and the NFL team now in Indianapolis would have to
get another name. Anyone else hear or read about that? (The
"Baltimore Colts Marching Band" still goes under that name.)

Please, confirm! I hadn't heard this. It makes sense from a
traditionalist standpoint, but given the NFL that sounds too good to be
true. It may seem illogical, but I'd root again for a Baltimore Colts
team decked out in blue and white with horseshoes, but give me the
Baltimore Stars again and I couldn't care less.

I heard the same thing too a few years ago after the Colts moved.
Seems that someone or some group has some kind of "(tm)" on the
name "Baltimore Colts." It would be interesting to see an expansion
new improved Baltimore Colts playing against the Indy Colts.

Miss Applebee, a third grade teacher at the Thomas J. Dewey
Elementary school had noticed one of her student's Billy
Loudon appered to have been beaten. He had cut's and bruises
all over his body. When questioned Billy said he had fallen
off his bike or had fell off a swing. Miss Applebee took the
matter to the school administrator Mrs. Jardon. Mrs. Jardon
finally got Billy to tell her that he was beaten, and asked
    Billy some questions.

"Billy" she quipped "Does your father beat you?"

    "Yes." he whimpered.

"Well, do you want us to talk to your mother?"

"NO!" exclaimed Billy "She beats me too."

"Well then is there someone you can stay with?"

"Yes!" replied Billy " I can stay with the Patriots, they don't
    beat anybody!"

Until the Patriots draft some offensive line help, it wont matter
who they put in at QB or RB because thier line SUC*S. They should
have drafted Richmond Webb instead of Singleton, instead they let
him go to Miami where he walks in and is a starter. Come on Pats
    lets get a CLUE!!!!!!!!!!!

True .... the Pats O line does Su*k. But whether they should have
drafted Webb over Singleton ....... jury's out for a couple of years.

Personally, from what I have seen of Singleton, he's gonna be a
    bigtime impact player.

I'm not saying that Singleton is not gonna be a good if not great
player. What I'm saying is that without an OL your offense will
not move the ball. The Raiders finally got a Line and look what
Schroeder is doing. It is no coincidence that the 2 coincide with
one another. The cornerstone of a good offense is the offensive
    line.

    Amen on Webb over Singleton!!!

Outside of wide receiver, linebacker is by far the deepest position
on the Patriots. Richmond Webb could have been a starter on their
offensive line for the next ten years. I liked the comment by one
of the Patriots coaches, who said in effect that the running backs
are improving but the line hasn't done sh*t.

I've been saying since the end of last season they should take Webb,
then when they had two #1's I thought we were all set. Someone on
the Pats didn't do there homework, because during the draft when it
got down close to the Pats and Dolphins, ESPN was giving each teams
ratings of certain players, the Pats were picking 8th and 10th and
the Dolphins had the 9th pick, ESPN said the Pats should take Webb
because if they don't Miami will, he's the #1 player on there list.
But the Pats picked Singleton instead saying if they had picked Webb
they were afraid that Miami would have picked Singleton, but ESPN was
reporting that Miami had the LB from Baylor who Cincinnati picked up
rated higher than Singleton. Just another mistake in the draft.

Why is Wilson the stiff starting again this week? I thought the plan
was to get the rookie into the action, as long as the season is already
shot to hell. Why did they abort...oops, not supposed to use that word
in here today...why did they change the plan?

Anyone see the National Yesterday. In the game summary they have
a comment about each scoring drive. For example, from the Bills-Eagles
    game:

P-B Time	Play PAT	Drive	Setup Skinny
    0-7	 14:15	Buf::Lofton 63  Kick	2-66  (will skip) Smith beaten on
    							  Kelly's 100th TD
    0-10 8:29 Norwood 43yd fg 8-39 Joiner stops
    							  Davis on 3rd-1

    etc....

    here's the Pats-Chiefs game
    KC-NE Time Play Drive Setup
     7-0 14:39 Paige 86yd from 1-86 McNair 15 yd ko return
    	         DeBerg
SKINNY: Lippett Burned on Paige's longes career reception

10-0 8:55 Lowery 19 yd fg 7-70 Hansen punted out of bounds
    					  at own 29
SKINNY: KC receivers as wide open as deserted Rt. 1

     13-0 2:39 Lowery 32 yd fg 10-60 Birden 4 yd punt return
SKINNY: DeBerg went over 200 yds passing in under 10 minutes...

You get the idea (I have to get back to work...)

    Anyway, here are the rest...

    16-0 (fg)
SKINNY: Pats defense parting like a red sea

    23-0 (td pass)
SKINNY: Fans begin leaving to Christmas shop

    30-0 (Okoye run)
SKINNY: Chiefs impersonation of '72 Dolphins continues

    30-7 (Cook TD catch)
SKINNY: Hey, even a blind squirrel finds an occasional acorn

    37-7 (Okoye run)
    	SKINNY: QB Pelleur engineered drive.

Plus things like the turning point being the first play of the game.

I nearly cried when I read these. Not consistent, but hilarious.
