| Why is Washington eliminated?
If the Eagles lose two, they will be 10-6.
If the Rams lose one, they will be 10-6.
If the Redskins win one, they will be 10-6.
Assuming either Green Bay or Minnesota loses this week, the above
three teams would be tied.
The Eagles would have a conference record of 7-5.
The Redskins and Rams have a conference record of 8-4.
The only thing that I can figure is, they must use the divisional
tie breaker first, and then use the conference tie breaker.
Does anyone know if this is true?

Re: 60.2
Willard Reeves is a runningback. He spent all of his carreer in the
Canadien Football League. Tried out with the Redskins this past year
and was one of the final cuts in August. Was called back on to the
team a week or two into the season, but I thought he was released
again. He's in his late 20's, might even be 30 years old. A real good
runner down near the goal line. Big and strong runner
I'm not sure if he's on the Redskins roster now, a Redskins fan might
be able to help.

Re:.1
The conference record is used after the head to head, not divisional
since it is unfair to compare that for different conferences. The next
would be common opponents. I think I ran it down somewhere else before
(in FOOTBALL I think) and showed that in common opponents the Redskins
will lose to the Rams.

Redskins fans won't die easily.
If the Redskins tie with the Rams, they lose on record against common
opponents. They lose a tie with Philly on divisional record. If all
three tie, Philly drops out of the first tie-breaker (conference
record), and then LA wins tie with the Redskins. Then Philly and
Washington revert back to the top of the tie-breaker criteria, which
Philly wins on divisional record.
The Rams can now make the playoffs even with a loss to New England if
Philly, Green Bay, Minnesota, or Washington (even though they're
already eliminated, they still affect the tie-breakers) lose.
The Eagles can still make the playoffs with a loss to Phoenix if Green
Bay or Minnesota lose.

USA Today
Fruitlees contracts talks have Washington Redskins quarterback Mark
Rypien planning to play out his option and try free agency next season,
his agent said Wednesday.
Rypien, concluding his original five year contract, stands to earn
$600,000 with incentives this season, though his base salary is
$250,000. He is seeking a two year deal worth about $3M. The Redskins
offer is approximately $2.4M for three years.
"We're quite a bit apart and at an impasse," said Ken Staninger.
"We're just trying to get what the average quarterback in making."
Redskins General Manager Charlie Casserly said the team wants to
re-sign Rypien but not at his asking price.
Staninger said Rypien had elected NOT to hold out and force the issue
because "it was not in the team's best interest or in Mark's. But it
appears we're going to have to play out our option and try free agency
next February."

Smart strategy for the agent of an *average* quarterback like Rypien.

Rypien statictically was the fifth best quarterback in the NFL
last year.
Montana had Bob Woolf for an agent. Montana credited Woolf with
financially putting him back on his feet. With Ed Debartalo(sp)
a generous owner, Montana got what he wanted and pocketed the
money which would have gone to his agent.
I really don't know the salaries of [statistically] comparable
quarterbacks, but what he is asking doesnot appear to be too out of
line. The Redskins are playing hardball because of Stan Humphries.
Perhaps it has more to do with the salaries of the top players
on the team--Monk, Green, etc.

On Thursday Ken Staninger, Rypien's agent refused to talk about

Ok. Where did the 'skins fans go.....
Well, let me get my 2 cents in about Doug Williams. I saw the
Washington-Dallas game last year (Sunday night on TNT, or whatever),
and basically, flat-out, Williams singlehandedly lost the game. Clark
and Sanders and Monk were wide open all game, and he kept overthrowing
and underthrowing them. If Rypien didn't have the 4 fumbles against
the Raiders, Williams *NEVER* would have played again.
Well at least he's gone now.
As for the season, as long as they beat the Eagles at home, I don't see
how they can finish worse then 2nd if they stay healthy. The best the
Eagles can hope for is 5-3 in the division. The Eagles have the Rams
this week, and lost a good defensive player last week (yes, I forget
his name.) Let's be honest, the Eagles are not going to be plus 26
in the turnover dept this year!!!!! No team is that

| The only game I was able to see was the game on TNT. It was the
first that the 'Skins went back to the two-tight-end versus the three
wideouts. This was for Stan Humphries benefit because Rypien is on IR.
The short of it is that Terry Orr is third behind Don Warren and Jimmie
Johnson and because the 'Skins have been in the three wide receivers
alignment, Teryy has NOT recorded a single catch this season.
The game against the Giants this Sunday will be telecasted in New
England which means I will be looking out for Terry.
I have not seen any memtion of his being injured, etc.
