Note 3188 asked "Is there anything suspect with OpenVMS 7.1 and Cobol
5.4". My question: Is there anything suspect with Alpha OpenVMS 7.1 and
Cobol 2.4?
A large Denver customer claims that CSC says that "OpenVMS 7.1 has
architecturally "broken" the Cobol Compiler and RTL." My customer
(different from the one saying there is a problem) needs to go to 7.1
for a variety of interconnecting reasons and the applications are
written in COBOL.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I also have a call from a customer asking about DEC COBOL V2.4 support
for OVMS V7.1 on Alpha. The customer needs to run OVMS V7.1 due to a
requirement from Oracle. They tried to install it and the installation
aborted during the IVP. They are now asking if DEC COBOL V2.3 can
run on OVMS V7.1. Any insite would be appreciated.

The latest DEC COBOL 2.4 bug fix kit for OpenVMS Alpha (-909)
referenced in CLT::DEC_COBOL_IFT note 2 has been successfully installed
on OpenVMS Alpha V7.1.
Both DEC COBOL V2.3 and DEC COBOL V2.4 are supported on
OpenVMS Alpha V6.1, V6.2 or V7.0.
DEC COBOL V2.3 will be supported through May-1997.
