77.26 | Ford transfer case fluid? | SUBSYS::WOJDAK | | Mon May 12 1997 13:10 | 5 |
| What type of fluid is recommended for a 1978 Bronco transfer case?
The guy at the parts counter said it could be transmission fluid or
gear lube.

77.27 | Pick a Fluid, ANY fluid..ref. 77.26 | BRAT::J_GALLAGHER | | Tue May 13 1997 10:08 | 16 |
| It could be one of three lubes:
- 85W-90 Gear Lube
- 10W-30 Motor Oil
- Auto Tranny Fluid
Your vehicle, I'd say was from the 'old school and uses Gear Lube.
There was a `transition' period where they were making the machining
MORE precise than that requiring Gear Lube, and 10W-30 Motor Oil
was used. This was in the early to mid 80's. Then they got more
precisely machined (i.e. factories went from pure numeric control to
opto-numeric control (laser guided) and they switched over to ATF.
My recommendation: Call your local Ford dealer and ASK. If THEY don't
know, then you can put anything you please in it.
