I'll be out from 5:00 pm today until August 7th. So the casting call for
the TV movie about the US Women's Olympic Gymnastics Team will have to go

| > Then let you off to play bridge? Way cool!~
I'm pretty sure I've already detailed the measures Germany's unions have
pushed through in their efforts to destroy labor's ability to compete in
the world market, but just in case...
Officially, we have a 35-hour work week. We actually work 39 hours, with
the extra four hours a week going into a "free time account" (Freizeitkonto),
which is spent in two different ways:
1. on designated days, like the Friday after a Thursday holiday or a full
one or two weeks encompassing the twelve days of Christmas, the whole
shop closes up (excepting emergency services), and those hours are
subtracted from our accounts. These days are called "bridge days"
(Brckentage); and
2. we take time off over and above vacation.
Because I'm committed to the customer for a certain number of hours per year,
I have never actually managed to get my free time account anywhere close to
zero. I've never gone to the trouble of adding it up, but if you took our
thirty days of vacation, approximately ten public holidays, and the free time
account, we're actually responsible for working about nine and a half months
out of the year. I typically make the corporation a present of about three
or four weeks of that.
Now, is this nuts, or what?
Steve
PS: I won't record my time today, because all I'm doing is catching up on
notesfiles, work-related and otherwise. Anyway, if I did record it, my
manager would probably get his wrist slapped by the Works Council
(Betriebsrat), also known as the Work Prevention Council, for permitting
me unauthorized overtime. See the question above the signature.

I remember first seeing EDP's pname about 10 years ago. The lore
at the time went something like this:
A Field Service engineer had recently performed a routine
PM on a PDP11 that was controlling a laboratory experiment
involving a monkey. Unfortunately for the monkey, the PDP
didn't come up in an exactly stable fashion and the monkey
perished. Thus, resulting that in the future, before
performing PMs on that machine, one should alway mount a

First I've heard of this Steelers-Pats thing... plus, I'd have thought
that the over-under on the Jets and their last place schedule would
be higher than 4, but after this past Sunday I might have to re-think
that. Denver, last in the league in sacks last year with 30, rack up
9 against the Jests, with O'D flopping to the turf (he'll take the
sack rather than throw it away; always has) for 8 of them, with two
fumbles. Such a shame...

| Lil' Debbies, is that the swirls? I can sit and eat 2 packages of
those at a time, thats why I only buy them once every couple of months.
Now good jerky and beer go well together, especailly when out
trolling and sunnin'.

| I never could get into jerky. Nor chewing tobacco which tastes
approximately the same.
As for trollin and sunnin, I learnt one of natures secrets over Labor
Day. Namely, don't bring no cooler with a detachable lid for them beers.
On the firsted rapids of the float, the lead canoe lost most of his beers
when he sunk the cooler along with ever thing else in his canoe and the
lid floated away releasing his stache.
Luckily, I had coolers with built-in/on lids. Hail, I buy that kind cause
it's a hassle loosin your lid when you're drinking good.

| Just for kicks I decided to count the number of "jerky" offerings that
Estabrooks genral store on Rt 2 in Jefferson had. 25. And he doesn't
even specialize. They have that teriaki jerky now that's pretty good
tho it's really smoked meat that's sealed rather than the dehydrated
jerky that's in a jar.
