268.0. "NAZZ NCAA Player/Points Contest" by TNPUBS::NAZZARO (Well, 37-1 ain't so bad!) Mon Mar 11 1996 13:16

OK - here it is! The 6th annual pick-some-guys-and-follow-them
NCAA Basketball Tournament contest. With our reduced numbers at
Digital, I'm cross-posting this in the ::CELTICS file and here, but
I'll maintain one master list of entries.

Here are the rules (a couple of new ones this year):

    1) You pick eight players: a starting five of two forwards, a center,
and two guards, plus three subs that can play any position.

    2) You can pick only one player per team.

    3) You can choose only two players from teams seeded #1, two players
from teams seeded #1, one player from teams seeded #3, and one player
from teams seeded #4 as a maximum. That means you have to have at least
two players from teams seeded #5 and beyond. Of course, if you want to
pick all eight of your players from teams seeded lower than #4, that's
    perfectly OK.

    4) You can only pick two players per conference.

    5) Any player picked from a team seeded #6 or lower will receive double
    points.

    6) Respond either in here or send me mail at TNPUBS::NAZZARO; entries
will be accepted until Thursday at 12:00 noon EST.

    7) I will track how these players perform over the first weekend, list
the results from the opening weekend in here (hopefully Monday), and give
    updates throughout the tourney.

    Good luck to everyone!

Actually, I considered Nordgaard quite a bit. He's probably
gonna score for the Phoenix, they will probably play 2 games, and
as a #8 seed his score will be doubled. He may pick up around
80 points for this particular contest.

No, I picked players who I hope do very well and each play at least
3 games in the tournament. The fact that it's unlikely that they
    will doesn't deter me.

We've got 23 entries this year. Seems like the new rules worked -
we've got a lot of varied picks, although too many guys picked the
Allen/Iverson duo. First and second round results here Monday.

This is just a possible suggestion to solve the Allen/Iverson issue.

Maybe, assuming we can get some data like Rich so kindly posted and do a
grouping of A players, which would include these and some others - Camby,
Duncan, etc., and of B players which would be ever one else.

Then the rule would be

	1 - #1 seed A player
	1 - #2 seed A player
	1 - #1 seed B player
	1 - #2 seed B player
	1 - #3 seed any player
	1 - #4 seed any player

and take if from, there.

An amazing 53 players were selected, including two #16 seeds!!!

Iverson was the most popular player, appearing on 15 ballots. UMass
and North Carolina each had four different players chosen.

The bonus double, the picks by position and more than anything else the
