I don't know about Chappy, but I'm a Giants fan.
However, I wouldn't be playing KoH if I didn't want to try to do my

The SUREST bet that I could come up with was KC. It worked, 'nuff said.

| Well I'm peeod because I was wrong and I hate to be wrong almost as
much as you know who. I tried to get the same spread as the vegas
bookies would make and part of that has to do with betting preferences.
So given the large NY betting population I figured 3 was plenty of
incentive to get them to take the Giants which I felt should be what
Sheridan was thinking. Instead he went way up to 7 and made me look
bad with my mentor TTom who's probably mad at me for my lousy spread.

Sheesh, Chappy is still wet behind the ears.....
re the spread:
I rarely, if ever, bet. I know a little bit of how the spread
works and what has to happen for me to win.
I noticed in the paper that the line on sunday morning was 6 points.
That was more than what we had in here. But, our line was closed
so everything worked out.

Some GOOD prognosticators...
Tommy made what I considered to be a very ballsy bet the week his picked San

So do the Giants. After watching the Cards play Dallas a couple back I figured
no way do the Giants beat them by 4.5. I figured a FG max. Going into the OT
I'm figuring okay, no matter who wins here I win. I figure what are the
chances that the Giants get it into the end zone, never mind grabbing and inty
and running it back...
Oh well.... Since Parcells left the Giants I've learned to expect
disappointment from them....

I went with Detroit because I thought (silly me) that they
were at home getting 3.5 (see below). I figured they were
rollin' after beating SF and drubbing the Browns at home.
I about choked when I looked up at the TV from my paper and
they were playing this game at Lambeau Field.
Can I have a do over? :^)

Yeah, right.
Technically, the King has been killed off. They haven't found the rightful
heir to the throne yet, so the throne is vacant. Karen, IMO, by the rights of
ascension to the throne, is the steward.
There is a technical term for that -- when a rightful heir is not apparent, yet
there is no king, and someone sits on the throne for the king or queen, but
I'll be damned if I can get this old brain to pull it up.
I'll have to go with steward for now....

I was thinking of steward, but you may be right, there may be another name
that's used when a king hasn't come of age.
I might have to dig out my book on British Kings and Queens and see if it is in
there....
Sometimes my brain feels 400 years old, though, I must say!

I didn't want to jinx myself by saying anything yesterday and
I probably shouldn't now BUT with Cincy's offense I really don't
think there are three teams in the entire league that I'd take
giving the Bengals 7 1/2 points. Certainly not a team with Pittsburg's
offensive problems. I'd take Cincy's offense over ours (Patriots)

resigned at lower $$$. Reeves has done alot of bonehead moves, but
drafting Maddox in the 1st round is up there with the Ted Gregory

MikeC, now you know why the Broncos were always Elway and little

| Since George Young lost weight, his tap dancing has improved tremendously.
I heard an interview with him yesterday on WFAN. This man has more excuses,
and is so good at deflecting straight questions....
When asked why he thought the defensive line was being manhandled, he said
"We have to keep our offense on the field more. The offense has to dominate.
If you notice in the NFL the offenses are dominating."
It was bizarre.
Maybe we'll get lucky and the guy will have a stroke....

Someone should have then asked him why your offense stinks so bad.
It's bad enough that the Gnats stink but there's no light at the
end of the tunnel either. What do you really hang your hopes on if
you're a Giants fan? Dave Brown? Tyrone Wheatley? The Jets stink

| From this Giants fan's perspective, realistically, there
are still a few potential bright spots to look for:
1) Tommy Maddox getting cut - Done
Makes the preseason a success.
2) Purging of ex-Broncos *players* - Almost Done
I think Horan is the last hold out. He's ripe
for a midseason cut.
3) Reeves getting fired - Just a matter of time.
Each loss will offer the solace of knowing that
another nail has been hammered in the coffin.
Of course, Young will still be around to pick the
next coach. He's on a two coach losing streak as
it is.
Slim pickings, huh?

I still think Young has to potential to build a team except for his blind spot
with Brown. He invested almost 5 years in Simms before he became a big gammer
and I think he's think the same about Brown and while Brown's tough or stupid
to stand behind that line he ain't got it in the gut. Now can he hold it
together once he builds the team? Doubt it........

| > Someone should have then asked him why your offense stinks so bad.
When Mike and the Mad Dog tried to pin him down regarding the offensive
line he kept falling back on "these guys are young and we see potential."
George Young might not play the Free Agent game well, but he's slippery as
an eel in an interview.
Biggest problem I see is that the Giants have done very poorly hanging onto
important free agents. They've also tossed some of the vets (Bart Oates
comes to mind) that provided leadership and experience in spite of getting
a bit older.
> It's bad enough that the Gnats stink but there's no light at the

I think Brown is, and always will be, a mediocre QB. I don't think he's got
the head or the arm to excel in this league. But the Giants are paying him the
big bucks.
I can't see the Giants picking any superb college QB in draft over the next
couple of seasons because of Young's love affair with Dave Brown.
Wheatley? Always injury prone....
To me the bright spots are Toomer and two decent cornerbacks.

Horan may be good at directing his punts to pin
the returner along the sidelines, but he shanks
too many, and he can't boom out a long one when
you really needed. Besides, he's tainted by his
association with Reeves. Irrational? You bet,
but what the heck.
I gave Reeves credit during his first season for
recovering from the mess that Handley left, even
though he wimped out in the second Dallas game
by playing for the tie. If they had won that game,
they would have had home field advantage, and might
have avoided the hurting that the 49ers laid on them.
I even wrote off his second year due to the change
in QB, but last year clinched it. No progress was
made, and by all indications, the man was begging
to get fired. Makes you wonder what the team would
be like if Coughlin or Wannestadt (sp?) took the job.

| > Must be the association with Dan Reeves. It poisons all who contract it.
That about sums it up. Maddox was a Reeves first round pick with
Denver. He didn't show much there when Elway was hurt.
He then resurfaced with the Rams and show less. The Rams cut him,
and the Giants signed him last year.
Last year, Reeves benched Brown, and put Maddox in. He proceeded to
expose himself as $1 million no-talent (6-23, bunch of ints/fumbled
snaps).
With the salary cap, you would figure that he wouldn't even make
it back to camp. Not only does he make it back, but Reeves starts
him ahead of Brown again in the second exhibition game, despite the
fact that Brown can use all the work he can get. Throw in a couple
more fumbled snaps, and the charade of Maddox getting the starting
job is over. The ownership finally puts its penny pinching ways to
good use and cuts him, saving $750,000.
Maddox tenure with the team represents much that Giants fans loathe
about Reeves.

Let me see if I can add some insight into the Maddux mystery. The kid
has/had what could be called the classic throwing motion and release.
The donkos bought him as a project out of UCLA after his sophomore
year. Since that time he's never had a real chance to become a pro
QB,.ie; learn to read defenses, get on the same page as the receivers
or his latest problem dealing with the jitters and Giants fans.
I think Reeves still saw that Maddux the potential to become a pro QB
with the skills that Dave Brown does not possess.

opportunities. And while it may not have been fully his fault, his was the
mistake that cost the game.
Once the pumped-up enthusiasm of the Giants wore off, and once Buffalo made the
(expected) adjustments, we saw the same old Giants.
Despite the fact that the papers around here are saying that the Giants are
back, I'm not forgetting that the coach is still Dan Reeves and the QB is Dave
