Man, she was an Amazonian bleach-blonde when I was a kid and watching
roller derby.
Back then it was the Bay Area Bombers with Joanie Weston and Charlie
O'Connell....
Man, does that take me back!

| According to the piece on ESPN, several of the old stars are coming back
either as skaters or as coaches. Also it seems to be a family thing. They
showed one family consisting of a man and woman who had been skaters last
time around. This time he's a coach, she's skating and the kids, who are now
in their teens, are skating.

I can only hope that they bring back Pretty Judy Arnold, Big Jim
Otis and Harry The Rabbit Morgan as coaches. Seriously, roller
derby is no more a sport than pro wrestling is. In fact, it's such
a non-sport that when they made a feature film about it, non-actress
Rachel Welch was the only logical choice to play the title role.
It used to be well-choreographed and fairly entertaining but it
was not a sport.

| My mom went to Roller Derby once when she was a kid (so we're talking
years and years ago). She said she enjoyed it, and then when they flew
over the rail and landed on the floor they really did land on the floor.
But, she said that other than that it reminded her an awful lot of
professional wrestling.
Nowadays, I believe they term it "Sports Entertainment"......
I'd watch it, at least once, to see if it is as fun as I remember.....8^)

Don't know what they were thinking. Well I do but they were thinking the
wrong thing, obviously no respect for history.

She earned the title role in more ways than one.

Well, actually, if I remember correctly, the predecessors to C were B and
BCP. There was speculation for a while that the next iteration might have
been P, because it followed C in BCP.
C++ came from Dennis Ritchie's C With Classes, but I don't know who it
was that put the ++ on it. Probably some cutsie marketing type. 8^)
Actually, though C++ is good for one thing: "Friends can see Friends Private
Parts".....

LA T-Birds came from behind to beat the Detroit Devils and win the
World Championship! Sorta ranks up there with Thomson's homerun!

| So what yer saying is Cleveland aint no kinda sprots town?
I do have one question, though: when a team wins a title then moves does
the city get to keep the title or does it move with the team? For
example, does Indianapolis have a title?
The Raiders helped out in this regard cause they won titles in both
Oakland and LA.

IMHO (not that anyone asked), a title does _not_ move. A team
represents a city; just because later they represent a different
city, the past doesn't change.
For instance, the Cleveland Rams won the NFL championship in 1945.
Should St. Louis now have claim to that title?
Joe
|
228.26 | | CAMONE::WAY | Software Mortician | Thu Jul 13 1995 11:35 | 7 |
| Well, according to the Baseball HoF, the title stays with the franchise.
If you look at the Braves for example, they have WS titles as Boston and
Milwaukee.
But that's just for baseball....
|
228.27 | bof | HBAHBA::HAAS | improbable cause | Thu Jul 13 1995 11:39 | 11 |
| Yeah, Joe, I asked for a_IM[H]O. I tend to agree with it, too.
I can see both the cities and the team staking their claim, though.
As for the Rams, Cleveland, LA or St. Louiee, what the hail we're they
doing while we was busy dropping nukes and the like? I mean, if'n all I
did during the big one (at least one of the big ones, it was big to those
in it) was play football, I'd keep it to myself. Or run for president
like Phil Gramm.
